I keep asking my electrologist, and although I feel at times that the marks on the right side of my face are pits and marks, she says they are marks that will fade… I can only hope so. I have just read a few posts who have compared my skin to theirs and commented. I am not sure if you are or are not right, but all I know is in real life it doesn’t look as bad as the pictures do… macro shows more that the human eye picks up.
My electrologist changed the settings again and after the last 40 min treatment the redness sudsided within 4 hours and the scabbing/crusting was the least I have ever experienced. Woohoo! Hopefully electro-related matters will start looking up for me in 2010!
I’m treated with Blend and so far no scabbing or pin pricks. The area just goes a red. On somewhere like my chin where she just does a few hairs spread out, it’s not noticeable. On the upper lip, where I have 10-15mnis treatment, it’s noticeably red and slightly swollen - swelling goes down fast and redness faces in under an hour.
Some of those large red spots, especially the one with the head on it, look like impacted hairs. I always get a few of those on the face and body a few days after electrolysis; I don’t know if this is so common on fine GG hair though (pros?)
Those red spots look like irritation from left over broken hairs, or hair debri in the follicles. Work on GG’s (Genetic Girls) leaves the problem of hairs that tend to break due to the anchor being so far below the skin’s surface and the needed combination of the proper treatment energy, and amount of force needed to pull the much thicker sheath system through the small, but very long hair shaft.
Be of good cheer, though, all of this will heal up in time.

Hello ihavehair,
Sorry didn’t see your post. My skin is by no means normal, and as stopit has rightly said everyone is different. Be careful with your aftercare, you’ll see slowly how your skin reacts and treat it accordingly. For me I use the tea tree solution for the first day and the witch hazel gel and aloe for longer; that stops my skin drying out completely and helps with healing. HTHs.
Hi Stopit, hope you are well! We’ve had a LOT of snow here in Kent, everything looks so calm and beautiful.
I am using (outside the 3-5 days after treatment):
[ul]
[li]Neutrogena oil-free cleanser (with salicylic acid) at night & La Roche posay gel cleanser in the morning
[/li][li]Oil of olay regenerist fragrance free serum
[/li][li]Avene thermal water spray
[/li][li]Neutrogena norwegian formula essential moisture for sensitive dry skin with spf15 and without spf for night
[/li][/ul]
I’m thinking about adding a retin-a to promote healing - off the shelf on like Neutrogena healthy skin night. I have asked my electrologist to see what she thinks of using retin-a whilst having electrolysis first, she should get back to me by tomorrow.
Thank you for your explanation of what could be causing this. This makes much sense and I know it will all heal up in time. At the moment though, as soon as one heals another pops up so I am trying to keep my face routine as good as possible by using non-comedogenic products only
Are you using Aloe Vera, Tea Tree Oil, and or Witch Hazel? Tea Tree tends to dissolve necrotic tissue, and help scale away dead skin to release the broken hairs as quickly as possible, and avoid any build up of pus. Aloe Vera helps the skin regenerate faster as well.
To follow up on James, are you using any aftercare specifically for electrolysis like tee trea oil at night and witch hazel during the day?
Also, are you avoiding using all your products for at least 24 hours after treatment or until the skin heals? All the products you’re using are not helping. They have a lot of chemicals in them and your skin is sensitive after treatments. I would really consider cutting down on most of them as much as you can. I would also recommend Aveeno Ultra Calming Cleanser which you can just use at night only.
Yes, I use all of those and apply the vit c powder and milk of magnesia paste 2-3 times a week. My skin reacted to the pure tea tree oil so I found an alternative toner. My post treatment routine is as follows - I follow this for 3 days and then slowly introduce my usual routine as detailed in my previous post, please let me know if you feel any of these are unsuitable:
[ul]
[li] Boots cleansing and toning lotion with tea tree & witch hazel (Ingredients: 0.1% Teatree oil & 10% Distilled witch hazel. Aqua, Alcohol denat., Polsorbate 20, Alcohol, Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel), Parfum, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree), Dipropylene glycol, Hexyl cinnamal, Limonene, Benzophenone-4, Alpha-isomethylionone, Linalool, CI 61570)
[/li][li]Witch Doctor Gel Witch Hazel Skin Treatment Gel (Contains: Liquid extract of witch hazel B.P.C. in a clear concentrated base. Other Ingredients: Ethanol Propylene Glycol Triethanolamine Carbomer Disodium Edetate Menthol Lauric Acid Diethanolamide E142)
[/li][li] Holland & Barrett Aloe vera gel 99.9% (Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, Pathenol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Phanoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Benzoic acid) [/ul]
[/li]
Thank you, as always.
I have answered your Q in my post replying to James, but just to let you know I actually picked up the Aveeno Ultra Calming Cleanser and Positively Radiant cream when I visited a shop near Times Square a couple of weeks ago, so will start using that cleanser instead. Thank you for your advice. I will scale back on my usual products. It has now been 2 weeks since my last electrolysis appointment, but considering the break outs do you think I should stick to a much simpler routine?
hey pokka, how are you? your pictures look good, shes managed to get most of the hair, thats fab! Which electro are you going to now then? Sorry i havent posted in ages, ive been so busy over christmas and everything. Thanks for your advice about that cream from olay, i have been using it and its really good!
I still get some scabbing but not as much as before. Has your skin healed from Jennas treatment? I think we both made the right decision there mind.
Anyway let me know how you are getting on, im still battling away against these hairs but they are getting better.
My dear, you are spending too much money and getting too little of what you bought these products for.
Your Aloe Vera should say in the ingredient section: “Ingredients: Aloe Vera”, or “100% Aloe Vera, please refrigerate after opening”, or “100% Cold processed Aloe Vera Gel from Aloe Vera Fillet” or “Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Gel” The stuff you have is like me telling you to buy cherry juice, and you go get Cherry Cool-Aide and ask me if that is just as good.
Ditto on the Witch Hazel. Thayer’s Brand is the one you should be after. As for the Tea Tree Oil, either you used too much, or you need to mix it with Lavender Oil, or Olive Oil to reduce your irritation. Hint: the Lavender smells nicer.
I’m doing well, thanks, and u? I know, I’m really pleased with the reduction in hair. I had a couple of long appointments (one of 2hrs and another of 2.5hrs) which gave her the time to do the work needed to get to this stage. I’m still seeing the lady in Dorking. It’s been a bit tough on my skin, but she has now found a way to treat the hair that agrees with my skin - Yay! Don’t worry about not posting, I’ve have been in the same boat - Busy busy! I’m glad the serum is working for you, it should help with marks/discolouration quite a bit.
My skin is still getting over the marks from the treatment I had with Jenna. I have quite a lot of pin prick sized marks that aren’t getting much lighter, but I’ll take another picture next week and compare instead of fretting about it
As long as you only a few scabs, I think that’s ok. How much scabbing do you get? 50%, 5% or less of the treated area? I used to get a lot. Almost, 60% aprox would scab, but in the last one there were only 6-7 scabs and that was because she switch to a smaller needle to treat the upper lip area. How much has your electrologist managed to clear for you?
Also, Bec, what aftercare products do you use? As I can’t seem to find any pure aloe vera, the best I’ve found is the 99.9% holland and barrett one but James says I should really use 100%, so any help there would be great.
Thanks so much for letting me know what you think about the products I have been using. I will look for pure aloe vera and use pure tea tree diluted with lavender oil. The lavender oil is a great idea as all the products I have been using smell horrible, so lavender will be a very welcome change! I did use just a tad of the tea tree oil, when I tested it out some months back, and I applied it with a cotton bud, but my skin went all red and I got little bumps… I’ll test the mixture before using is on skin that has been treated, just to be sure.
James, I am guessing the pure products cost more than the ones I have bought so far it’s just what you get in the UK. I just hope I can find them so that I can get my skin back on track.
If you check your health food stores, instead of your beauty and drug stores, you might have a better chance on the Aloe Vera Juice, or Gel. You may also just go buy an Aloe plant, and just break off a piece of a leaf and rub the insides on your skin.
The place where I bought my aloe vera is a health food store :-S It’s labeled 99.9% aloe vera, which is why I bought it, but it looks like i’ll need to visit a garden centre instead
