Hi Everyone,
I am pretty new here and about to start my electrolysis diy journey. Would like to practice on my thighs and arms, bikini line and eventually some upper lip hairs. My question therefore is, what kind of magnifying help would you recommend for the above mentioned areas? Do you think that those “clip on magnifying lenses” to put on glasses work best- also which magnifying strength is recommend, the more the better?
thanks in advance
Espera
Hi,
I and my girlfriend have a magnifying loupe, but we use it just for lightning the area of work.
If you have good sight, you are good just with your eyes and some good strong LED light.
Some use clips on their glasses, but your working distance is very close with them… The closer the stronger the clips are - so stronger is not allways better.
You need to try it out to see if they are comfortable to work for you.
Thank you Miro,
that helps!
I use a cheap magnifying visor with interchangeable lenses. Some DIY’ers go all out and buy the expensive loupes. It just depends on how comfortable you are working with your equipment.
Hi I’m a diy’er due to location and cost of travel. I’ve also realized I’m interested in possibly attending a school in the future. My immediate question is about my machine and what size probe I should start with for face. I’ve been on hrt for about 7 years, of and on about 20. So the hair is thinner than most being heavy only around the chin area. I read on the board that the gold ballet #3 is a good starting choice. I just purchased an Electro-Blend UC-3+. I know it’s not the best, but I got it at a very good price. Thanks you.
PS: What book would be best to get?
You can probably get this one off Amazon.

Hi James,
Thank you for your response. I’ve read a few of your post on here and found them to be quite informative. This board is the main reason I didn’t wind up being scammed on ebay first thing. I also have a background in electrical applications along with some minor medical history in my past. As I’ve read in Mike Bono’s free pdf introduction to The Blend Method: The angle of insertion is critical for the probe, especially with the more delicate probes I’m sure I’ll be using at some point. One of the main things I want to understand is the settings for my flash/blend unit. The size of gold ballet probes/F or K to be used. Like you mentioned the gold ballet #3 as a good starting point for face work. I believe you said this is due to the smaller ones be too delicate for a beginner to insert without bending and the larger ones being to difficult to insert due to sight issues when working through a mirror. Then I know there’s the task of calculating units of galvanic lye.
I was homeless from about the 6th grade on and have schooled myself on things over the years. I’m pretty adept at most things I encounter. I have confidence that I can do this, or I wouldn’t be willing to try on my own face.
I’m gathering Mike Bono’s “The Blend Method” may be a bit more advanced than I’m ready for at this stage!?
I’m really wanting to get started because there’s a very painful physical need here as well. Maybe that’s why we are so willing to do this… Gosh we must look quite nuts sometimes to the non trans folks lol.
Thank you so much for your time`~^…^
Don’t forget that it is much easier for you to get an electrolysis buddy and trade work on each other. It will always be easier and more effective to work on someone else, than on oneself. You will get more hairs per hours removed as well as fewer bad treatments due to poor insertion angle, and angles.
Yes that’s very true… But who shall I trust to learn on me lol? And the next thought is that I would be just terrified learning on someone other than myself. The mere thought of scarring someone is beyond awful to me. Maybe once I do this for awhile then I’ll be more confident. Who knows, if I luck out I’ll find someone who knows more about it. But then again I live behind the redwood curtain in Humboldt i.e. God’s country lol.
Thank you so much for your help
You practice on each other’s legs until you are good enough to start working on faces. First you take it on the shin, before you take it on the chin.
I need advice please.
Is there an intermediate machine between the one touch and the cheapest pro machine sold on texaselecrolysis (its a uniprobe lite automatic thermolysis something sold for almost 500)? Also can someone elaborate on the uniprobe I mentioned…does it do electrolysis in addition to thermolysis?
The epilator is strictly thermolysis. That means no Blend or Galvanic.
Why not keep an eye out on eBay, you can find the occasional good deal on there.
I pretty sure that the “uniprobe” is made by Clareblend for Harry Carey … at least it used to be. An okay unit. (But designed to sell needles of a specific type.)
Thank you both for the info.
Hey guys, how are you all doing your left arm if you’re right handed? I think I would remove said arm for a dedicated diy partner.
Also Kijiji! I found my professional Silhouette-Tone ST220 on Kijiji for $1500 and it was only 3 years old with less than a year’s usage. Came with a stand, loupe, everything.
Proficient with both hands, thank you very much! You kind of need to be if you want to remove your own hair. I like to stick to the tweezer and probe in one hand (and yes i can do this quite well with either hand).
Unless i’m working on an area that requires me to use two hands to stretch the skin a bit… like a dense area or something.
Dunno, on eBay you usually find the people that buy random things from an estate sale or bankruptcies and really have no clue what they’re looking at, that’s how i got mine for $110. Also sellers will sometimes make mistakes on listing the auction properly, it takes a keen eye but i guarantee you good deals are out there.
Finally got back to work on my DIY. Bought a Silhouet Tone ST250. I found that I love the Laurier IBP 4 Med for my arms. I have yet to work out how I am going to reach some areas on my arms or see my chest etc.
I bought a USB microscope which at first glance seemed like the most awesome thing ever. The hairs look like pencil leads with this thing. The downfall is that the 30fps mean the video isn’t in “real” time and the lag hasn’t allowed me to make an insertion yet. I’m debating on getting a stereo microscope and hooking it up to a monitor. Not sure yet.
Worked on forearm tonight. Using the manual settings on my epilator even though it has presets.
