DIY'ers: Areas, Goals, Concerns, and Progress

I havent done any E on body, and have not yet begun self done E …however the E i was seeing here told me that work on the body makes it look all torn up like hamburger meat for at least 2 weeks while it heals!! Is that true? Are you all looking like a bloody big mac??

How are things going with your new strategy “wait…” Mantaray? Elapse of a little more time, it will be fun to guess the hair phase that you are treating. It will be like having X-ray vision, and your inserts will be more accurate.

[color:#006600]Hi Josefa,
I’m sorry I have to answer your post with “egg-on-my-face”. I have been completely lazy. Lazy, lazy lazy. I’m so close to completely finishing abdomen and all the hairs left are just yelling at me, “Extract me! Extract me!”, but I let it go week after week. The hairs are growing past anagen and I’m like, “Oh no, I’m missing the boat.” and so I’m upset with myself.

I have been hitting upper chest sporadically in 15-30 minute sessions, so all is not lost. Working in a mirror is kind of a fun challenge to me.

The thing about letting the hair just grow out, instead of shaving, is that the phase (anagen, catagen, etc.)is easier to see. So it makes me see how fast I have to clear visible growth. Because, I know once it gets a certain length, it’s going to slip into catagen. So it’s motivating. What I’ve learned is that my eyes have to “train” to only focus on the hair base angle, and block out the rest of the hair’s direction. Yes, seems easy to say, but my mind kept calculating the angle instinctively on the whole hair, due to inserting on only shaved hair for years.

I was kind of wondering if shaving has any effect on extending out the anagen phase of a hair’s cycle. I was thinking that maybe when the hair reaches a certain length there might be a feedback that shuts off growth, and shaving may minimize this because it keeps the hair short. It’s just a thought.

Yeah, I’ll get back to it, probably this week. And, a new area of focus for me is tending to the very fine motor control that is needed for smooth productive sessions. So now I do some deep breathing, mental calming, and loosen up my hands with stretching of fingers and wrist, visualisation. It helps me alot. In the past my productivity would ramp up in the first five or ten minutes, now it’s good right upon starting.

Anyway, thanks for the nudge for me to get going.

I thought Michael Bonos recent post about hair growth in transplant cases makes the point that hair does NOT have to be in anagen stage for successful treatment ??

Indeed Danika, Michael attempts to change old and absurd beliefs are worth to consider. We’ve even talked to conduct an experiment:

The experiment would consist of: Choose an area with a high percentage of hairs in the telogen phase, a woman’s arms for example, shave one of them, a week before the session, and work only on hairs that have grown a few millimeters (anagen hairs), the other arm would remain untouched, and therefore, all the hairs will be treated (anagen, catagen, and telogen). I think we can all guess which of the two arms would be ready soon, however, is not enough to believe, you have to prove things.
It would be interesting if someone else will add to this study.

The only boat you lost is hair that fell this morning when you’ve taken your daily shower. Well, this hair and hair that fell yesterday, before yesterday, and so on until one or two weeks ago, ie exogenous hairs, a 10/15% of total hairs that are in the area.

I do not think this is possible. The short hairs you see are telogen hairs, in some areas this phase lasts much longer than the anagen phase.

Now tell me, why the green this time?

Dear Josie- i offer myself as rabbit for full body electrolysis testing ;0)

[color:#003300]I was trying to hide in the bushes and grass. Maybe a darker green will work.

[color:#993300]So iLikeDIY, Ekade, and Danika, why don’t we in the DIY forum have one of those new poshy “Only us, nobody else allowed” forums? ? Huh?

We just kind of live on the sidewalk I guess. Maybe we should build our own. You know, out of plywood and cardboard, we’ll paint a sign and hang it on the front saying:

“Only us DIY orphan streetkids, no snooty types allowed, so nosey out!”

We’ll talk about things like what’s the best thing to mix with vodka during DIY sessions, how loud do you get your headphones at 2am when you work, or what’s your record for re-using a needle over and over. You know, all those things a pro only wishes they could do.

…They won’t even let us in to use the restroom!

I smell a Skype session…

You are so funny, Mantaray! You should be a writer!

I SECOND Mantaray as gifted writer !! Yes , we live in a shanty town, used needles on our streets, passion in our fingers, hairs on our back…home sweet home

[color:#990000]From Beate_r on the ‘risky and hard’ forum:

I did a lot of DIY electrolysis. First of all after my professional trainings in order to practice and later on - after some months - in my face. In case of difficulties to do proper insertions leave that area alone and concentrate on what You can easily reach.

Beate_r, were you able to get the backs of your upper legs? That’s a tough one! I got back of calves, and could go slightly above knee, but the backs of the legs was an area I just couldn’t get! Of course I could get the insides and the outsides, but it left about a quarter stripe that I just couldn’t access. The insertions deteriorated when I had to move the skin to get it into view (makes sense, it distorts the path of the follical).

With the sparse growth there, I really should just go to a pro and let them knock it out in 30 minutes or less, but my pride won’t let me.

I know you, Mike, my old pro, my other old pro, and sheiladarling have all done DIY, I just wonder to what extent were they able to do.

I think an award should be given, it’s quite a challenge.

[font:Century Gothic][color:#FF0000]And Happy New Year everyone!

Indeed. Actually i think there is one stripe which is at least nearly unreachable, even to creative self-positioning.

My main concern was actually the facial treatment, and also there are many reagions which cannot be reached or at least not reached reliably (especially for the slow methods - it is easier to keep the probe in position for 0.3 s than for 8 s). Their exact location depends on the individal direction of hair growth.

[color:#3366FF]I think I’ll do electrolysis going into the New Year. You know the tradition, some say whatever you do at New Years, you will do throughout the year.

[color:#330099]Under arm strategies… Does anyone have any? That’s what I need to figure out. It seems like I would be getting a headache trying to see the hairs but I really want to clear this area… So far I am doing chest, abdomen, bikini, upper thighs, and legs with great success (back of legs of course I am going to have to get done professionally along with my face/neck).
Thanks for feedback

[color:#660000]For the record:

I finally got off my lazy tail and did an hour and 40 minutes of electrolysis last night. Cleaning up upper chest then moving on to stomach. Stomach is turning into a real battle, probably because I now leave everything unshaved and have to look at it until I get off my tail and get it removed. I’m not used to seeing long, growing hairs on my stomach so it creates a feeling of ugh that motivates me to get to working on it.

As usual, the area just below the belly button is really unpredictable.

The area just below the pectoral line is difficult in that it is too close for loupes, and too far away to see clearly with 3x readers (that don’t really work well at all anyway) so I find my lowest quality insertions are right in front of my face! haha who would have thought when I started all this

There are far, far less ingrowns. I only dug out three or four, as opposed to starting this area when hours would be spent solely on digging out ingowns.

To the naked eye, the areas are starting to look “hair free”, but as usual, I’m kind of a perfectionist so I want the area completely devoid of any hair at all.

I think I need to bring back my hard schedule and just discipline myself. I’m finding my motivation waning. I love electrolysis once I’m “tapping and zapping”, but getting started is the bump I have to get over. What really motivates me is finding and zapping those bifurcated hairs. I dislike those with a passion! So as long as I keep seeing those, I keep working.

During my work I was watching this movie, well, listening, called “The Real Da Vinci Code” (Discovery Channel) and it was really getting up my nose with all their dubious half-truths. So maybe that may have effected my work. I find what I listen to, or have to watch while I work does make an impact.

That’s all.
