Diary of a Scandinavian guy

Thank you Stoppit. I wish you the same

Danika. My skin is in excellent condition. It is impossible to see that I have had electrolysis treatments, except on some areas that still has a little bit of hyperpigmentation. Normally I like to lie in the sun for hours in the summer, since my skin almost never get sun burned. But I will be very careful to apply sunscreen this summer.
I will follow all the advice that Josefa gave me, which includes NO use of tanning beds/solariums.
Right, Josefa?

YES! Very correct my dear. Your skin is now like a baby that has never been exposed to sunlight. Not only for the Electrolysis, but by retinoic acid. Although on the surface everything seems to be healed, your skin still needs some time for tissue full recovery.

You should start with small doses of natural sun (no tanning beds) and give time for your melanocytes are stimulated.

In other words, te mataré como me entere que pones en peligro tu piel y tu salud en un solarium!

PD: Yo también te echo mucho de menos.

Dear depilacionelectr,

I have started my electrolysis session but it seems its gives me dark scars. My electrologist uses Apilus platinum and she knows what she is doing.I am of African descent as well but more of choclate skinned. How ever i think she uses the bare needle cos its so obvious as the scars evidently shows. However, with the use of witch hazel and aloe vera, they are gradually clearing. From this forum i feel, the problem is the use of bare needle and lack of Laurier probe bulbous needle. Please where can i get them from?

Hi mam91

Send a PM to Philomena, she is the distributor of Laurier for UK and Ireland. Maybe you can not avoid some hyperpigmentation, but this can be reduced to a minimum without losing effectiveness.

Hahaha Josefa, te lo prometo

Sorry to pull up on an old post, but I was revisiting the association’s website today. I think many would agree that it’s worthless and perhaps even pointless. I think most of us had tried out 2-4 different BIAE practitioners. The problem is that electrolysis in this country is in dire straits. As such, word of mouth simply does not exit and thus one is forced to become reliant on the association website. However, I have also discovered today about half as many electrologists in the country who are not listed on the Association’s website… It’s a matter of being able to find them that’s key here. Today, I have found 15 different electrologists in London alone. Find an electrologist seems to be far lesser a problem in the US.

In some ways, I can imagine the situation being off putting to any wannabe practitioners, especially because they have to go through 3 years of beauty school, urgh! Why does one need to learn how to do nail manicures, facials, waxing and massage first for 2 whole years? It makes me want to pull my hair out (when I actually want to be pulling other people’s hairs out)!!

Part of the problem that electrologists here aren’t electrologists but beauty therapists. Electrolysis needs to be separated from this. They ought to be two different and separate industries. There is zero incentive to upgrade skills and machinery when you work in a beauty salon and 99% of your time is spent on facials and waxing. It seems ridiculous to be waxing people when you’re trained in electrolysis and can show them the light. Then there’s the “15 minutes” thing. How ridiculous is it to acknowledge that electrolysis is permanent, acknowledge that people have unwanted body hair in large areas of the body, yet refuse to treat it?!

There really isn’t enough competition in terms of technology and the association, as you’ve mentioned, does not want to discover alternative avenues to that which they already espouse! I’m telling you, if someone gave me a mallet, I’d hit them all on the head!

Hopefully this time next year, I’ll have got a few hours of needle work in.

WHAT NOW? Who is she?! I’m amazed. You could be helping so many people out with this info.

Where in the UK are you?

Sorry, I’m being a quote-aholic today. Have you completely finished those areas now? You’ve finished way faster than I, lucky!! I keep seeing people’s pictures and forgetting which body is yours, but the change is impressive! I think I’ve remarked to Jos that the perception is that Scandanavians are given the remarkable natural gift of not being especially hairy. Your neck though is the biggest change and it put a smile on my face when I saw the change. Keep the finer, small blonde hairs, I say. It’s the good part of Scandanavian genetics you’ve inherited. :stuck_out_tongue:

yes i still go to her.sorry for the late reply.she stays in liverpool.her clinic is newton clinic.so far i have noticed a huge reduction from her treatment.

Hi Smurf!
I didn’t see your respond.

Yes, I am 95-99% finished with my upper body (neck, back, shoulders, chest, stomach, hands, upper-arms and under-arms).

I still can’t believe the perfect results. I am so glad Josefa took many photos before starting with electrolysis, it is really important! I feel like I have seen hundreds of “before and after photos” on the internet, in laser/IPL clinics etc… and now I finally have my own photos!
I remember the awfull situation before, but to actually see the results documented on photos is something special…

I will update the thread with photos after my next trip to Josefa
(In the next trip we will continue on legs and buttocks, and do the remaining few hairs on the upper body)

I tell people that when they are done, the before and during photos will be very much appreciated, but most still don’t want to take any.

Sometimes, those pictures are the only thing that can keep you motivated, when the process is in the middle stages, and it is hard to tell that progress has in fact been made.

A short update:

In May 2012 I had much of my upper legs done with electrolysis.
8 months after, it is very easy to see where I had the electrolysis!

(Click on the photo to get a better view)

You need strong motivation mostly with electrologist that dont know 100% what they are doing.

If you go with the best ones, and have the proper strategy (CLEAR AND WAIT), you see the results immediately, like the photo boy1989 leg or my lower back after just 1 CLEARANCE:) Im proud that I could present Josefas work on me!

And boy1989, do you want to do 1 clearance for the whole legs, or just for the thighs?

Im looking forward to see your pictures from the next trip.

Miro

Hi Miro
I will have 1 full clearance on the whole legs and 2 clearances on a big part of the upper legs. I think it will look very natural

I have to add:
The photo of the leg are after only 1 CLEARANCE! I would estimate the results to be 95% permanet removal of hairs!
If that isn’t spectacular, I dont know what is :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh Jossie, you truly are a beautiful hummingbird

Miro, the problem with Boy´s hairs, is that they are thin and blond, but very, very, long. How do you select there if they all have the same length?

On the other hand, you lose a lot of time in selecting one of each three hairs and eventually, as yourself have been found this strategy made by your previous electrologist in your buttocks does not work when all the hairs have a thickness and length similar.

There are a few ways to “thin out” an area.*

Lots of times a one-time full clearance will do it; it usually does. I’m a bit hesitant to post my recent “feet” photos, because it actually didn’t turn out as I’d wanted. The client, however, is happy with the results (he says so anyway).

I cleared off the feet back in May and, in my opinion, not enough hair came back! After 9 months, it’s a done deal. (I still can’t get to the photobucket website … so, maybe that’s a good thing?)

*Another way is to zap only the anagen hairs (you don’t have to think about “which one” and "it is every 3rd hair or so) … this will thin out the hair and be pretty evenly spaced on the thinning. (I think this is a better way to go. I always do a little praying when I do a full clearance.)

After reading your response, I am hesitant to ask for a full clearance when I find myself a legitimate electrologist [insert Josefa or Michael here]. It does sound a bit risky for those of us who want to ensure natural looking results. Can this “thinning approach” be used on everyone everywhere instead of full clearances, or is that method more suitable for clients who are moderately hairy? Seeing as it would be less likely for enough hair to grow back on them than let’s say on someone of middle eastern descent with hormonal issues (me). Would love to hear your take on this.

Boy1989: Your results do look phenomenal, and I am so happy for you! I bet you are ecstatic to finally be hair-free. After all, who wouldn’t be?

Thinning can of course be applied on everyone everywhere. It is actually part of the usual process to get hair free, except of course if the results are as spectacular as Josefas.

Well, “entlich” I got Photobucket to work (had to make a whole new account, new email, etc. … The new format is dreadful).

Anyway, here are the PIX of the “foot in question.” As I said, this is 9 months after one clearance. (The patient took the original photo and it’s a bit fuzzy, sorry). The client is happy … I think there should be more hair.

I have found that legs, arms, feet and hands clear-off “crazy fast.” A single clearance can, and often, yields results like this. This is not the case with chest and back and absolutely NOT with the face. (Clearances on the face? It’s “over and over” for a long time. Don’t even bother “counting.”) If you only want some thinning on a body part, maybe error on the side of caution?

Here I am with decades of doing this, and I didn’t get the results I had expected. I’m embarrassed. For patients, it’s always excellent to “work with the electrologist,” be clear on what you want and work together to achieve those ends. Never be afraid to ask questions (even if you think it sounds silly). Don’t be afraid to suggest treatment options … all of us “pro-zappers” are students. (Indeed, that’s why doctors call their business a “practice?”)

Thank you for the thorough and detailed breakdown.

I did NOT expect these subtle changes after one clearance. I’m not as worried about the outcome now. Judging by your before and after pictures, the results do look very neat and natural. I don’t know how the leg hair transitions into the foot area, but it looks good! Too good! I would be satisfied too if I were your client.
