Toronto people - my story

Hello EVERYONE

I’m just posting this just to get it off my chest and to thank my hair removal technician

  • I’m dark skin , my background is east indian

  • I went for hair removal in 2001 I had about mayb 10 sessions and my hair always grew back then one time the person tried a different machine and I got burnt BAD…all over my chest and leg. Plus all my hair still grew back too!

Here is a picture of my leg 4 years AFTER the initial burn

  • So here in 2010 i found this new laser hair removal clinic near my place and I drove past it so many times…thinking should i try this again…i must be crazy? But I was so desperate to get my hair removed …Gave them a call and they told me dark skin shouldn’t be a problem. So I wanted to do my face…this would be a big leap of faith for me. Just wanted to post my pics and show the results…it’s amazing really…i’m glad i took the leap of faith …i’ve waited for this for like 10 years …my skin feels fantastic

This you can see the before and after on my face which was huge risk for me and this is only 1 session 2 weeks later

ok thanks for your time I have more pics too if anyone is intrested

the clinic practitioner is so nice caring and takes so much time its really good to go to her and know i’m in good hands

Looks like you’re in Toronto and they’re using a Cutera machine (probably a Yag given your skin type). It’s a good machine. Just make sure they overlap well to avoid patchy results.

Just to chime in as well, and not to be a downer but the results you have aren’t really that great, here’s why…

1-2 weeks after any treatment, all hair should fall out and you should be completely smooth. That’s not really an indication if it will be permanent but it’s definitely encouraging. My point though is that it’s not going to stay that way, you’ll need many treatments, probably around 10 or so. I’ve had 6 on my full face and had great results, but 6 treatments on my face I’d say looks about the same as 3-4 on my underarms. Face has so much hair and takes a lot more work.

The reason though I say the results aren’t that great is because they clearly missed spots all over. Especially on the right side near your ear, you can clearly see the circle outline from the laser, and hairs around it being missed from them not overlapping. Overlapping is critical on the face, otherwise the way you look right now is what your final result would look like! You did mention it’s only week 2 though so more hair may shed, but if by week 3-4 it looks the same, then you may want to see about getting a touchup.

WOW congrats to you!! I’m in Toronto also, maybe I’ll give them a call!!

Cynosure Elite Laser System…has anyone ever heard of this laser before??? Is it good/ does it work?

Yes it works! It’s the Apogee Elite, the company that makes it is Cynosure. Did you call them and that’s what they said they have?

Its painful for me lol I’m having it on low on my request and i’ve had 4( 4 months) sessions and its going great  I don’t care if it takes 10 sessions I have to admit as long as I don’t get burnt and its working I’m good. My hair has not grown back in 4 months except here and there which is OK with me. My face swells up and I have to use ice packs similar to 2 hours with electrolosys. I ended up in hospital with my other attempt with the other clinic 10 yrs ago so now slow and easy is ok lol

Oh and i don’t sit very still :o

You’re not really thinking about it the right way. The settings can be high enough to cause the hair to fall out, BUT not high enough to cause permanent damage to the follicle. I assume you want permanent removal and not temporary. That requires using the highest settings your skin can handle SAFELY. They need to test settings to figure out what those settings are for your skin.

Well that is what happened 10 yrs ago that one didn’t do anything the hair just grew back.

Now little to none of the hair you see gone in the first one even grew back. over the past 4 months…so even the low setting has worked well. Some times the hair pops out and smells burnt, so maybe it is high for my skin or i think its low lol.
I won’t let anyone test to see how high they go on my skin…my leg or ankle or anywhere. The first lady did that on my ankle and it wasn’t pleasant.

Well 1, the one done 10 years ago wouldn’t have had a chance anyway to work since you only did one treatment, you can’t really get results from 1 session.

Two, it requires multiple treatments to have permanent removal. It’s pretty much impossible for hair to never grow back after 1 session. How often do you go in between sessions, how many weeks? As LAGirl said if the settings are too low then you’re pretty much just doing a fancy wax job.

Well i did write 10 sessions 10 yrs ago in the first post and I wrote the hair now with the recent treatments is not growing back. Which i have had 4 sessions(4 months) Did you not read anything?

Anyways not here to argue

If you are in Toronto and have dark skin try this location out. She is very safe and does great work.

To truly judge effectiveness, you’ll have to stop treatments for at least 6 months after having at least 6-8 spaced every 8-12 weeks. Otherwise, you can’t really tell what’s gone for good. Hair grows in cycles. The spots you see that have no hair now will fill in once the new cycle of hair comes in.

There is nothing wrong with testing. You shouldn’t let one unfortunate experience years ago when lasers first appeared put you off if you’re confident in this clinic.

Well this has nothing to do with any confidence in any clinic but I had sever burns from my whole chest and my legs and it was the most crazy pain ever. I won’t let that happen again…even if god was running it I would tell him to start low. Also I wouldn’t call it one unfortunate experience this is your face not your legs or anything you can cover up. My legs took almost 8 years to clear…8 years. It’s not something to pass off as some experience you will forget about.

Your first post says the picture of your face is after 1 session 2 weeks later. You can’t judge anything from that period of time. You said after you’ve had 4 sessions in 4 months, for one thing that’s too many, that’s only giving it 4 weeks. That’s why no hair is coming back, because you don’t even give it a chance to, you’re just treating it again. Treatments should be spaced 6-8 weeks apart, anything sooner they’re just taking your money. Anyway I do hope it works for you, my only point is that in the picture you posted of your face, it’s totally sloppy. They missed so many spots, since you should have NO hair left on your face after a treatment. You can clearly see the circles on the right, the outline from the laser head. As LAGirl said, you can only judge how well it worked if you stop for at least 6 months without shaving or doing laser. That will show how much was actually treated.

Sorry my bad it feels like 4 weeks or a month to me(feels like forever) but i see its actually 6 weeks on my appointment cards that i looked at so your right.

anyways i’m just excitied  imagine i wanted this 10 yrs ago now its happing

I saw your other post the one where the guy got burnt. I don’t think this is a case of being sloppy you can see my burnt leg and see the same pattern. You can’t expect them to give perfectly full coverage its technically impossible unless they were to draw a grid on your face. Then if they did that you would be there for a long time. This is why you go back for multiple treatments. If you get burnt you will see the same pattern.

If my face is swelling up there is only so much time I can sit there to take a overlapping that is just asking for trouble. Maybe your face can take so much? I think for you to recommend that they overlap when you aren’t there to see how my face is reacting is misinformation.

Lots of people get swelling or welts from laser. It’s actually a histamine reaction in many cases, or sometimes it is just a reaction as if you’ve been sunburned. It’s no big deal. And it doesn’t matter if it’s hard for you to sit still for because it’s painful. A burn is what you are trying to avoid, not pain. It doesn’t matter how much it hurts or how much you “can take” pain-wise. What matters is high settings (not high enough to burn you, but not so low that you get “fake shedding” that tricks you into thinking you’ve killed any of the hair), and also even coverage.

I agree that it looks like they missed spots. This is a problem because if you don’t get them touched up right away, they will go out of anagen phase and you won’t have a chance to treat them again for another 9 months or a year even. If this doesn’t bother you, then that’s fine. It’s up to you how “neat” you want it to look.

That’s a lot of money to pay for shoddy results though, in my personal opinion.

Mine were 2nd degree burns with blood and puss nothing to do with welts?

I’m not talking about your burns, obviously. I’m talking about your current complaints that you can’t let them treat your face properly because your face gets swollen and it’s uncomfortable for you: “If my face is swelling up there is only so much time I can sit there to take a overlapping”

I think if you were burned before not only would you be cautious but everyone treating you would be too. My face gets very swollen nothing like any sunburn. No need to sit there going over it
