Toronto people - my story

I have been burned before, for what that’s worth to you. It only made me more cautious in the sense that I was more knowledgeable about what not to do. And that’s a fair reaction from you as well.

But I still think that has nothing to do with asking them not to miss patches, and I’m not going to change my mind on that. If you’re fine with the patches, that’s totally cool. But they are not a necessary result of avoiding burns or something like you imply. There is no reason to have missed patches if you don’t want them. There’s no reason not to go back in and ask for those spots to be touched up with a pulse or two. That’s all I’m saying.

Yeah, that’s pretty backwards!!! My clinic uses grid stamps that they stamp on my face so it’s impossible to miss areas. It’s not hard to draw a grid on your face even with a pencil. Of any places on your body to treat, face should be overlapped the most.

What is it that you don’t do to get burned? I got burnt on my 10th try by the same technician who did 9 uneventful sessions before.

Just so you know too though, although we sound negative, we’re not trying to turn you off laser or cut up your treatments or anything like that. We’re just here to help and want to make sure everyone gets the best treatments possible. The reality is that some clinics are shifty and will mistreat you to make more money, but the real sad reality is that a LOT of clinics just are completely misinformed. For example, I think almost every clinic I’ve gone to, I can mention another laser type, and they have no idea what it is. Even mine using Apogee Elite, I’ll mention GentleLASE and they’re just like oh not sure. Even my good friend who works at a plastic surgeon in Yorkville, they do IPL. She asked why I stopped going so I told her because it was IPL. She was like ohhhh you should have told us we can refer you to a DOCTOR for treatments they use the best laser there is, the one that’s the most effective and works the best. I’m like oh GentleLASE? She’s like hmmm no, I’m like Apogee Elite? She’s like no… I’m like Soprano XL? She’s like no… Then I’m like LightSheer??? And she goes YES that’s the one! As far as I’m concerned LightSheer is not the best one. So we’re really just trying to help everyone out here to make sure they don’t get ripped off. A lot of places we’ve seen from on here will tell people to come in every 3 weeks even, so it’s crazy.

uni84: In my case, I don’t worry too much about avoiding future burns because the burn healed very well. As a result, I have decided not to increase the Joules in this area to the highest setting as I had originally planned, and I left them at the second-highest setting (the setting that gave me a mild burn). I suspect the burn was caused by an uneven treatment (she treated that one spot a couple of times on accident and missed other spots because we didn’t draw a grid- Grids are highly highly recommended).

Obviously if my burn was anything more than superficial (like yours), I would have them reduce the Joules just enough to prevent more burns.

Even if you keep it at the same settings, what we’re pointing out is that they’re clearly missing spots. ALL treated hair should shed within 3 weeks and some of your hair remains in patches. At that 3-week mark, you should be able to ask them to do a free touchup on any areas they missed.

If you had 9 uneventful treatments and then had a 10th one that burned, something changed, i.e. either settings were changed or your skin was tanned (and too tanned for the previous settings), or the machine malfunctioned.
