Since many of us are getting results from there, I thought I’d open a thread to share experiences. It’s not for actual treatment diaries as we have our own threads for that. If you liked a particular electrologist or had an appointment with someone else, then post your comments about how it went.
Sharon is back tomorrow right?
she is indeed! I had my first appointment with her this morning, after having had a patch test a month ago. I’m very pleased with the way my skin has reacted, but this is the first time I’ve been treated with blend…so only time will tell. Had a 15 min session clearing some slightly pigmented accelerated vellus hair on my chin (abt 30 hairs) and a few eyebrow/forehead hairs. When i got home, I did notice there was still lots of blonde slightly accelerated hairs that I was hoping she would have got…so I’m hoping her treatments won’t let her down on the visual side of things. I’ll be going again next week!
I went too and will be going tomorrow again - I was hoping more hairs would be caught but from what she has done I can see great work.
Has anyone had bodywork done at Parkside? any recommendations?
bea25 - I have had underarms and areola’s done. Both went well.
max and peace:
Blend is always going to be slow. As long as the electrologist is in the 5-10hairs/min region, he/she is doing very well. My experience is that Sharon can get up to 6-8 hairs a minute if she’s not having to sort out the thick/obvious hairs from the finer ones. At the end of the day, those have to go first (otherwise you would complain more!!) and she has to keep looking at the area from a normal perspective and see what should go - this can slow her down too.
And max - if you don’t have any reaction by the next day, your skin should be fine with it. As far as effectiveness, I have found my Blend treatment to be very effective.
Blend only treats about 3 hairs per minute. Thermolysis can do 5-10.
LAgirl - I only get treated with Blend on my face and my electrologist can do more than 5hairs/min… and it is this electrologist that we are discussing
Her thermolysis is much faster. And this is with old tech.
Wow, that’s pretty quick. Imagine if the owners/company directors unleashed her with a modern machine!
When is she going to get an Apilus? I think we need to start that petition to sign. I do think it would help with the pain too because my eyes hurt so much when they are uncovered after doing upper lip and going back to eyebrows, then that increases the pain overall lol.
I will work on it but I’m not sure if it will make much difference.
The owner is quite reluctant to feedback i.e. Price increases for the packages, no referral scheme in place, no student discount etc etc.
Dunno how she’d react to shelling out for new tech!
5 hairs/minute is pretty fast with blend. Do you hold something while it’s being done? She must be very good with every insertion to go that fast because there is usually that lag with blend where you have to wait for the beep for sometimes up to 10 seconds before the hair can be removed.
LAgirl, I have been on this forum for over two years now and been having electrolysis almost as long. I know very well the difference between Blend and Thermolysis… even having tried performing the former myself!
(1) She is very quick with insertion
(2) She does not apply the current for so long, unless the hair requires it (for my face, this is very rare)
(3) As soon as the current ends (‘beep’), she removes the hair and proceeds to the next follicle immediately.
I have timed the number of ‘beeps’ per minute and they always exceed 5, unless she is treating an area where she is having to ‘source’ out the thicker hairs from amongst the finer ones.
With Thermolysis, she is much quicker than 10 hairs/min. The first time I had this performed on my underarms (to finish off after laser), I was amazed to see how much she cleared in 15mins.
Someone should tell her to open her own office with an Apilus
I second the motion. Maybe, if someone arranged for her to get a good machine, she would start working for herself, and with better stuff than where she is working now.
Is the owner there often? Maybe more words from us would help. I don’t mind writing something to try and persuade her, I can use emotion in it lol.
I agree with Sharon being fast. I believe she mostly uses blend on me and I don’t know if it’s because the hairs have never been touched before with plucking, waxing or epilating that contributes to it, but the beep does occur very quickly snd the hair comes out nicely. Then she moves onto the next without delay, except if she pauses to see if everything is even (since I am going for reduction). Really I’m repeating what stoppit has said.
That would be a good idea but their salon is quite nice and they get a lot of customers with a whole range of things they offer so I guess it gives them a break from doing the same thing or the odd minutes where their time slot is empty. Still, I think she would be successful.
Eliminate the overhead for the marble floor and the super model secretary, and I bet she can be very profitable at home with not a lot of billable hours of work. Of course, most people put more stock in the marble floor and high rent location than the out come on their skin that the work may deliver.
Lol, we wish James. The salon she’s working in has no such frills (although they are all very lovely and down to earth).
Setting up her own salon/clinic in London would require a huge amount of investment, rental prices are insane.
Working from home, the problem is that houses in London are small, most likely she lives in a flat. There would be little possibility to work from home unless she moved outside of London (where she’d have the space). This would effect her client base, currently the salon does so well for electrolysis because of it’s central location.
Some people like taking risks, others don’t. At the end of the day she is happy where she is I believe. Sharon has expressed the desire for new tech but more along the lines of the salon introducing it, rather than her going it alone.
However, if she did want to be self-employed, I reckon she would be a very skilled and in demand electrologist.
If only the salon walls weren’t so thin, we could try to persuader her
Hi Peeps, just a quick update! I’m so happy with the way things are going at Parkside, I’m so grateful to this forum, and also to Stopitandtidyup, also Sharon at Parkside of course! Only 3 weeks into treatments and already I’m feeling more confident about myself…my skin is looking so much better and the hair doesn’t seem to bother me as much as it did. I’m not trimming as many hairs as I previously had to, probably because Sharon seems to be getting most of the obvious hairs. I can’t understand why I was having an hour treatment with others and just 15 mins with Sharon and the reduction difference in those 15 mins, is more noticeable than it ever was with the hour sessions. I do feel that Blend is more painful than Diathermy, especially on the eyebrows…it feels like someone is pushing down hard with a blunt object. I really don’t mind the pain, coz my skin is looking great! So looking forward to my next appointment on Weds…and seeing the large white rabbits in the city farm opposite! lol
Hi max!!
So great to hear that you’re getting on well and feeling good
Keeping the skin looking good is so important and I’m really glad you’ve finally found an electrologist who can do this for you, as well as provide good hair removal.
I feel the same in regards to looking forward to appointments too, I just wish I could afford more!
I hope you continue to have a good journey, the next few months will be very interesting for you indeed!
I wish there were more electrologists like Sharon and the others at Parkside in London. I wish they would invest in new tech. And I wish more people like us who are struggling with hair, knew about them and that they can do something about it.
p.s. I had no idea there was a city farm opposite. I must check that out sometime!
