LOL I went in there the other day but I didn’t see any rabbits.
max!
what you having done ?
i am thinking of using the same clinic/electrologist?
what’s the clinic like?
is it very feminine ?
i am trying to stir up the courage to go ?
Hi Mark,
It’s a beauty salon offering all other beauty services.
It’s small and fairly out of the way (opposite a park and on a residential road), so inconspicuous.
It doesn’t have many frills and the waiting area is smallish and it’s nearly always fairly busy in the evenings. If you have time, perhaps you will feel more comfortable going during the day.
However, there is more than one BIAE registered electrologist and all the staff are very nice, welcoming and down to earth (which is more than I can say for where I have Laser). They will make you feel at ease. My sister really loves going there, whilst on the other hand the Laser clinic almost made her cry (if she was more sensitive); they treated her like crap because she doesn’t look like their regular moneyed clientèle.
I quite often see men there, so you’re not the only one. Not just for electo but also for eyebrow waxing and stuff.
I say book a consult asap because you will wonder why you didn’t earlier!
Hi Mark:
What is there to be afraid of?
As someone who has had to conquered my own fears, sometimes you just have to follow your heart and take a leap of faith.
Faith is my middle name.
Give it a try and afterwards you’ll wonder what you were making
such a fuss about.

has anyone tried Thermolysis or blend at parkside?
if the answer is yes. your feedback on how you found the treatment would be greatly appreciated.
i wonder how max is getting on?
Thermolysis is like a sting, blend is like a sharp needle being poked into your skin.
peace - I’m sure you’re going to get some replies saying that it shouldn’t feel like like poking in to the skin. It would feel very different if it was a needle really actually going into the skin and not in a follicle, so I don’t think you can use that comparison.
mark123 - They all use both techniques as far as I know depending on the area, the type of hair etc.
I have had only blend on my face in which the needle is in the follicle for a few seconds and you feel the current as a sharp discomfort. The areas have only ever been red and slightly swollen for me; redness and swelling going down within the hour. No raised follicles or scabbing ever.
I have had both blend and thermolysis on my underarms. Thermolysis is a lot faster - more than twice the speed and you feel the pricks of current more. On my underarms I get no scabbing but in the middle of my chest I get a few pin point scabs that drop off after a few days.
My sister has had both on her face. Blend reaction is the same as mine. Thermolysis is used for clearance on the sides of her face and forehead. It leaves some pin point scabs (not many relative to the number of hairs actually treated) but again, they fall off after a few days and leave behind unpigmented skin. They are not noticeable either.
max is a lady. you can pm her, hopefully she has email notification set up.
Yea I thought that after.
Blend is like, it goes into the follicle and you don’t really notice that but when it hits the hair then it is like something pokingg the root of it and then pulling it (not when she uses the tweezer, before that) and it’s like a sharp pain which lasts until the machine goes beep. That’s the part you clench your teeth (well not really but your body stifens etc.) Only when the setting is high though. If it is a normal setting it can’t be felt that much or as bad.
The only difference you actually feel between the two is that the probe stays in the follicle longer than blend is being done, which is why it’s a bit slower than thermolysis.
stoppit&tidyup - how did you find parkside?
whats there rates?
Very good, Mark.
I have been recommending it to HairTell members since I started going there 2 years ago.
Here is my thread (last page, you can work backwards):
http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/74906/8.html
It’s an old machine so blend and thermolysis but Sharon is skilled with both and thinks maintaining the skin is important.
The rates are on the website. The cheapest deal is the 9 hour package for £500 = £55.5/hr
I’ve looked at the website and noticed there’s not a contact email available for the company. I was wondering if they were able to perform electrolysis in the genital regions (penis shaft)?
I’m having trouble finding somewhere that will do this, and it’s not exactly something I want to phone up and ask about!
Any thoughts?
Hi Charlie, they are a bit stuck in the past, everything is still done with pen and paper - it’s amazing they have a website to be honest!
I think it’s something they may well do.
If you can get in for the free consult, you can find out that way. Or you could call say that you want to speak to Sharon (she’s my electrologist) about electrolysis but if she could call you back when the salon is quiet so you can ask her a few questions.
I would ask her for you but I’m not seeing her again for 4 weeks.
Cool, in that case I will definitely be making a call within a day or two to speak to Sharon
Is there anything I should know before going ahead and getting treatment done in this area (i.e. will it cause any damage to my skin?!) Also, how often would I have treatments and how long until I begin to see results? I’m guessing that since it’s a smaller area than most areas that would normally be treated with electrolysis, it will be a faster overall process?
I noticed how you mention that they only have older electrology machines in this centre, is that a problem (im guessing not).
I need to read up a bit more on electrolysis really, although by the looks of things it seems like my best bet for hair removal, especially now I’ve come across this thread!
Dear All,
I am sorry to high jack this topic however please may I suggest you have a look at my topic titled:
“UK Electrologist Referral >>> ATTN UK READERS”
Many thanks.
Right, I’ve decided that I’m going to book an appointment with Sharon this week since I called in, and after checking with her boss, it turns out that it’s fine for her to do work where I want it done. She sounded very nice and told me that she’s done work in the area before which is good.
A couple of questions before booking the appointment however. I’ve never had any type of electrolysis before so don’t know what to expect. How painful will it be having work done on the shaft? Here at home I have some EMLA cream, should I put some on before treatment, and if so, how long should I put it on before? (I’ve never used it).
Another question is, I know that people say redness will die down within a very short amount of time, but how long will it be until the area is ready for use again? (you know what I mean - lol). From what I’ve heard, people who use Sharon don’t experience much scabbing, if at all, and I hear she’s good at what she does, so I’m not really expecting ingrowns or anything (should I)?
Basically this post is to just ask what I should expect during and after the treatment. I’m off to uni mid september, so basically just want to know the healing process etc.
Last and final question (a very awkward one!), what happens if I unluckily become erect at any point during the procedure?! That’s another thing I’m slightly worried about.
Ah this whole things making me very nervous, but it has to be done!
Thanks in advance for any help, and fast replys would be very much appreciated since I need to book in asap!
To anyone thinking of going to Parkside Clinic
Hi everyone. Encouraged by stoppit&tidyup, this is my first official posting on this site. About a year ago I was getting desperate about hair on my upper lip, which I have had since puberty and had always bleached. I considered laser hair removal but was told by more than one clinic that I wasn’t a good candidate as I have melasma on my upper lip (caused by minocycline, an antibiotic I was prescribed for my skin, which has this unfortunate side effect) However, it was also the melasma which had made the hair all the more obvious. So, in terms of permanent hair removal I really only had one option and that was electrolysis.
I started doing my own research on line as I had no idea where to go (it’s amazing how few beauty salons in London offer electrolysis) when I luckily stumbled across this wonderful site where there was a wealth of experience and support. I began to follow a thread headed up by stopit about electrolysis and where to go for treatment. I also read a few horror stories about electrolysis that had gone wrong and as far as I could tell, these experiences had been due to inept electrolysis technicians. The Parkside clinic however seemed to have very positive reviews from stopit so I contacted stopit directly for more information and after further assurance from her, I booked my first appointment with Sharon.
Well, a year later I am almost hair free. I still have to go for treatments every four weeks or so but I am thrilled with the results. I see Sharon but I have, on two occasions, had one of the other girls who work there and they have all been good.
I have to travel about an hour each way to get to Islington from south London but I would rather travel further to a place I trust than go somewhere else just because it is nearer. Parkside is not at all glamorous. There aren’t treatment rooms as such, just curtained off areas for each client - this is something that I don’t think has been mentioned in any posts yet and may not appeal to anyone obssessed with toal privacy. As others have already said, Parkside is a very friendly and welcoming place and I have never felt self conscious or embarrassed. Most importantly, I trust Sharon and the results speak for themselves.
It is slightly painful at the time but really not that bad. I think someone else has already described the sensation earlier in another thread. In the early days of treatment, my skin was slightly more sensitive than it is now and I used to get raised welts around the areas where the needle had been inserted. They would be gone by the next morning so I used to time my appointments to be later in the day on days when I wasn’t going out in the evening. I never had any scabbing, which I am sure is entirely due to Sharon’s skill. She would apply tea tree oil on the areas she had treated at the end of each session.
I don’t know whether Sharon has been using Blend or Thermolysis on me but as stopit says Sharon is relatively quick and gets through quite a few hairs at each session. I am now considering having my stray eyebrow hairs removed! So, if anyone is still having doubts about trying Parkside, don’t! Just book a preliminary appointment and take it from there.
Good luck to everyone. But pick up the phone and book. You won’t regret it.
