Pro-tec / Apilus

Looking on the Aesthetics Systems website I found a chart describing modalities and probes for the Apilus machines.

I’ve been using it in my practice and it’s such a great tool!!
I LOVE IT!

I’d like to share it with you:

Thank you!

I did not know they have blog. I hope they have time to update once in a while. As for pro-tec, I sometimes use BL when I am on Synchro…I move prove slow when I use BL.

Hi Natsuko!

What timing do you use when you say you move the probe slowly?

I love it this is great.

Thanks so much for the post!
I’m new to the business and I love any charts that help me to better understand the modalities when working.
Thanks again Apilus

Hi JoElectro, what do you think about using the Isoblend needles to do Microflash

I’ve used the Isoblend needles when doing multiplex. When I first started I preferred them because they made it easier to kill the hairs without having to have the probe placement exactly correct, and without having to use displacement.

Now that my technique has improved I prefer to use the isogard needles or laurier IBP. They require more accurate probe placement and/or displacement but allow the use of lower energy levels, less skin reaction.

Hello Dee.
Sorry for the late reply.
You know, when we learn or teach Synchro technique at school you are told to, after inserting full depth, hit the pedal and at the same time move up-ward smoothly. (in one seminar, the probe was moved downward…) When I use BL, I almost don’t move it. To be honest with you, in the 1000s of a second world, I am not sure it will make a big difference, but I just wanted to make sure un-insulated part stay way below skin surface. Same with when I encounter ‘shallower than I thought’ kind of follicle among deep follicle.
I usually use TH for Synchro, but sometime I switch over from PICO to Synchro, but don’t bother to change probe…

Oh, I hope you were asking me about timing of my hand motion, not the machine setting… I am so embarrassed if you weren’t!

Yes Nat, that is how Synchro is taught, using only an insulated probe.
Yes, we have to move the probe during Synchro but the current is so fast that I can’t imagine that our hands can move more quickly than the current.

It makes sense to release energy once you hit bottom; in that way we are not close to the epidermis. I would not use Synchro for shallow hair.

Are you being taught that Synchro can be best used after a first clearance or is it being suggested for first clearances too?

Hello Arlene,

The answer to your question is NO.
We are simply teaching at school that Synchro is good for deep straight follicles.

I really like using the Isoblend and the Isoguard with all apilus machines. I currently use the Platinum and with the microflash setting the Isoblend works great with a deep rooted hair and displacement. Good moisture is key for this modality.

Hey all,
I found a great technique that was taught to me by Johanne Fortier that involves Apilus Platinum Synchro and ProTec 2TH or IsoGard probes. This is definitely an insider technique and works fantastically on dry, telogen, hard to remove hairs.

Having had years (about 10) of electrolysis done on myself I have suffered a number of breakouts after the process especially when having thin, sticky, dry, telogen cheek hairs removed. This technique is PERFECT for these hairs and any hair that is low moisture and near the surface of the skin. Clients have had great results with no breakouts or scabbing after the process. It uses more time rather than heat to remove these hairs. Ok here it is:

Use Synchro modality on Platinum Apilus machine

Synchro level 1 only!!

If you’re doing high cheek hairs, eyebrow setting can be great.
If you’re doing lower cheek hairs, chin setting works great.

Step 1:
Set your location setting (chin, eyebrow, etc.) to level 1 Synchro.

**Level 1 here no matter if the hair typically requires more energy, e.l., level because we won’t be using displacement.
More below.

Step 2:
Use 2TH /IsoGard probe only!

**I find 1TH is too small and 3TH too large for these fine hairs. Of course client needs here vary but the main point is not to use a BL or IsoBlend because there is too much non-insulated area. The hairs in this area are usually telogen and super close to the surface of the skin so it’s key to have the right ProTec needle.

Step 3: Insert probe and apply current with Synchro modality but no not use displacement as would normally be used with Synchro.

**Because the hair is shallow and close to the epidermis we don’t want to displace the probe and move it upward as that will ruin the surface of the skin. If we just slightly insert at the low energy level, level 1, we are not using too much heat with the Syncrho high caliber pulse. Because the energy comes at at hundreds of little pulses per second we are getting better disbursement of energy and the low level allows for absent need to raise the probe.

Step 4: Remove hair or apply heat again if hair does not remove cleanly.

Basically we are using Synchro as if using a two pulse flash on a telogen hair. Clients feel little pain and hair removes easily with a great root.

This works wonderfully well and I have many happy clients at Zap Electrolysis that aren’t getting breakouts in this area because of this technique. The dry, sticky hair removes cleanly and the pain is low. Johanne taught me this as she used it on me during treatment and I am so thankful!!

Would love to know your experiences.

Remember, TH,IsoGard ProTec probes only!!

Thank you so much for the tips.
Dectro and Joanne are wonderful.

Oooooo… I’m right behind you, Arlene, with that thanks. Synchro does work great on those upper cheek hairs. I do keep the level low, between 0-3 and increase the timing as needed, but I have not tried it with the Pro-Tec probes or using level 1 only. I do have some and will try it out. I have also been using MultiPlex on this area and will choose to increase the timing if more energy is needed. I like to keep the intensity at pre-set levels and rarely monkey with that.

So if more energy is needed, you perhaps insert again or do you bring the timing up incrementally?

Synchro thermolysis is hands down the most versatile, deadliest, and gentlest modality for removing hair. It can remove the thickest, deepest beard hair or the tiniest, telogen cheek hairs. The genius of DECTRO!

Thick, deep, straight anagen hairs that have been eliminated easily with Synchro.

Thank you for sharing, jwalling!

I used Synchro on one of my morning clients today who wanted fine, facial hair removed, including the cheeks. The hair was mostly telogen. The CHIN Program was used, level 1. I adjusted the timing only when needed. The client told me I could turn the heat up, that she hardly felt anything. I didn’t need to! The hairs were releasing easily. Many thanks for sharing jwalling and to Johanne, too.

Dee, I am so glad this could help you! I love those Pro-tec probes. Did you try it with their TH? This truly is a fantastic trick for those sticky hairs. I totally agree with you regarding Synchro on the Platinum. It is the best modality for all variety of straight hairs. I don’t know where my practice would be without it!

I’m going to connect with Johanne at Aesthetic Systems and see if she has any other tricks to share.

Until soon!

I spoke with Johanne at Aesthetics Systems regarding the Synchro post. She was happy to know that others have come to find this so useful!

I asked her for more tricks to share and she mentioned the great modality of mulitplex for working with curved, distorted and dry, catagen hairs.

She will post this technique on the Aesthetics System website by next week at:
www.aesth.com.
She will also post it here for everyone to share.

Looking forward!!!

Yes! Johanne is the best. She is a great teacher - the kind of teacher that you hang onto every last word she says.

MultiPlex is great for those curvey hairs and telogen hairs. I may be using those techniques that I learned from the Quebec symposium that I attended last August. I am anxious to compare.

I used a Laurier IBP on the client I was refering to above. It worked great! I forgot to use a Pro-Tec, but will do so tomorrow on a client with the same hair structure. We went 7.5 hours today with a Laurier, so I will see how the Pro-Tec TH works as I will be going the full 7 hours again on body work, doing Synchro, tomorrow. I swear to God I am falling deeper in love with this modality every time I use it, if that is possible.

Johanne is a fantastic teacher. I feel I can trust her with everything.
I know I fall in love with Synchro every time too! It is a magic modality.
