Platinum Pure Settings & Tech Support Users Group

I use an Apilus Platinum Pure. For those of you who do likewise, let’s talk tech to each other about this wonderful machine to increase our learning curves. The purpose of this forum is designed to be VERY SPECIFIC to the Apilus Platinum Pure machine and usage.
Assume every poster is a BEGINNER and try to ASSIST or find another forum.

Here are some questions I have which I don’t believe are addressed in the “User’s Manual”:

Has anyone out there ever wondered why in the hell this machine can go up to 594 units of lye and approach an energy level of 20,000 when the user guide states even for coarse hairs the necessary levels are 80U.L. and 300 E.L. insulated respectivley.

On the statistics screen, what the hell do PPM and BTL stand for?

Why is cationphoresis so much more painful than anionicphoresis?

Also, let’s list tricky things that are common errors. One of mine is forgetting to change the probe setting when i switch from say a F2 to an F3 needle.

I find that a lot of manipulation of the “pre-sets” is continually required.

Where the hell is SYNCHRO? Do i not have this option?
I only see 5 settings:
The two thermolysis types: PicoFlash & Multiplex
The three BLEND types: PicoBlend OmniBlend & MultiBLend

Let’s have a discussion of all the settings within each Mode that work on given regions/hair & skin types.

Assume the Apilus Platinum Pure machine was just picked up at a yard sale and let’s help each other TRAIN on it… THAT’S what this forum is about.

I did a modified tolerence test on my self in Multiplex Mode on the following settings. It was like being tortured.

Multiplex
.436s duration
58% power
5X pulses

thermolysis settings (within Multiplex)
3.9 s
65%

I believe this gave me a total E.L of around 10,000!!

This hurt SO BAD and I could see the lye building up after every insertion. lmfao. I dial it way down for others of course. I just want to find a good safe middle ground between the weak recommended settings and what I can personally handle.
Can anyone touch my pain threshold? Comments, concerns?

Then there was my experiment in PicoFlash:

.999s duration
48% power
5X pulses

thermolysis settings (within PicoFlash)
3.9s
65%

Burned like hellfire.

This machine rocks!!! Best one out there for sure.I think this forum is a great idea:)

Agreed! Are you CPE? My training doesn’t start until January, but i COULD NOT WAIT to log some DIY time. Thanks for appreciating my concept.

Here is the Platinum Pure in action. I will try to get all the settings used during this video and post them for you.

Regarding the probe setting. The epilator doesn’t make any adjustments with this. You would use this if you are going to use the print-out option for tracking the treatment information. So…don’t worry about that one!

Manipulating pre-sets? Yep. That’s why we get paid to do this.

Synchro not on your epilator? I believe that it is an add-on option.

I am planning to invest in the Pure, and i have already had the opportunity to play a bit with the machine:

Yes, indeed, it is an add-on option.

As to the flash modes: is time interval of the pulses adjustable, or are there any tricks needed to do this (resp. possible) ?

Beate

Hello Beate!

Yes - you can adjust the interval of the pulses. I usually alternate between .20 and .40 - using the .20 for those little hairs at the philtrum and on that lower lip line.

Love this epilator, and so do my clients!

You have the Pure model, alopec. Synchro is indeed an option for this model. I believe it costs about $400 to add it on.

When I hear non-Platinum or Pure users say the epilator controls the electrologist, the electrologist does not control the epilator, I am mildly flushed with adrenaline. I hear this cute little erroneous blurb with that “control” word too often. The owners of these great Apilus models certainly do have control over the intensity and timing in every respect and they can repeat the same levels as often as they desire, which is something you can’t do with knob jobs.

The best way to remove hair with any epilator is to start low and work up gradually to the point where the hair releases easily while the top layer of skin looks unaffected from the intensity and timing.

Some of the levels I saw you using alopec, made me think - OUCH.

I have had my AP Plat for over two years now. It is a gem of an epilator unrivaled by none. It is powerful and versatile. It can easily and gently handle every structure of hair from very tiny hairs on the lower lip line to a manly man’s tough beard hairs.

Clients do appreciate their hair removal experience and electrologists can work without fatiguing for many hours a day if they use the auto timer function. I am not a fan of using 5 pulses. I like to narrow it down to one pulse per hair whenever possible. Don’t make this too complicted. Am I understanding that you are not an electrologist???

Dee

Hi Dee,

When you say the best way to remove hair with the epilator is to start low. Can you tell me does the manual of the apilus indicate what the starting point is for each method, if not how do you work out what is low on this machine?

The user manuals of electrolysis machines are notoriously low on user information. The legal departments say that one can’t give any information that would constitute teaching electrolysis, so the manuals barely tell an experienced professional still has trouble using them to figure out how to work with the machines.

To specifically answer your question, no, the manual does not tell you what settings to use. On the Machines like the Silhouet-Tone VMC and the Apilus SM-500, SX-500 and Platinum and Platinum Pure they have body selection codes that activate factory pre-sets and those area codes have levels zero to nine. Of course, If the hairs in that area are unusually coarse, unusually deep, or unusually thin and shallow, then the pre-sets will be of no use, and the practitioner had better know how to find a valid setting on his or her own.

And the time interval between the pulses? Can it also be varied?

On my Apilus Junior in flash mode, the interval between two pulses is fixed to about 0.5 s. I have to use pulsed blend in order to obtain something narrower (and pulse lengths of usually 0.16-0.2 s)

Beate

Hi James,

Do you think a good way to get started with the apilus is to use the presets of the machine and if hair is not releasing than start to adjust the levels?

I start at the presets and depending on the hair structure, I will adjust the intensity and/or timing. If the hair doesn’t budge with say Chin Level 3 after I have fiddled with the the intensity and/or timing, I will take it up to Level 4 and start the process again. I usually go up by 10 on the intensity and /or timing side until I get a release in one pulse for most situations. If the skin looks even a little angry, I will start to work backwards a little bit on either the intensity or timing. THIS IS CALLED, “CONTROLLING THE EPILATOR” for those electrologists who insist that these new epilator technology wonders control the electrologist.

When I say start low and work upwards, keep in mind that if I were working on James’ beard, I certainly would not start at Chin Level O . My common sense would dictate that I need to start higher, like Chin Level 5 and then work up from there f I were seeing him for the first time. Of course, I now know what levels James needs for his beard and I can now skip that start low and work upwards step.

Once one uses the Platinum or Pure (OR ANY EPILATOR) for awhile, your instincts will get better and better and you will be able to just go to certain levels without starting at “0”. I personally am never over confident with a new client. I am always cautious to start low and jump to the next level until the hair responds. I rarely start at “O” for anything other than a young woman’s fine long hairs on the upper lip.

Balancing the intensity and timing levels is not difficult. You control the epilator and you have instincts. It is the same principles that have been taught for over a century of getting the energy to levels that are not too high or too low. Alopec, please be cautious with your levels. The Apilus Platinum and Pure must be respected. It is a powerful epilator and training is needed. It is a fun epilator to use with all its video game tones, but mostly, clients can actually tolerate hours of electrolysis to get all the bothersome hair off asap. First clearances and full clearances thereafter give the client the gift of self-esteem and makes them feel that their battle with this God awful hair is going to come to an end soon.

Suds, do start at the presets and work up, but keep in mind that all you may need is some time and intensity adjustment within a lower level. If you go too high, you melt the hair and it won’t release. If that is the case, you need to back it up. Choose the appropriate probe size as well for best results. I like gold ballet the best, but insulated ranks high with me as well. Dectro recommends insulated for SYNCHRO thermolysis mode. I have used gold with no consequences, but it is best to follow the manufacturers instructions.

Paid to do this. Of course, and that will continue. The technique is impossible for some people to learn. I will compare this to a cook sharing a recipe. OK, so everybody starts at presets and works up. Which levels do you find most helpful manipulating? the mA, the %, the duration, the pulses? that’s what will help people in this forum.
Ostensibly, we all have the Platinum Pure already. Thanks for helping.

Every post you make I learn something. Thank you so much for explaining what the POWER and LEVEL selection that ranges from 1-9 on this machine. Even though it may seem obvious, I don’t like to assume anything. The User Manual does not even speak to this!

You know what’s funny, is the patent application for the Platinum Pure teaches you as much about how to use this machine as the User’s Manual does. If anybody has trouble finding this I can email it to you.

It does NOT. However, there are some presets in there, but there are 5-6 individual settings that can be manipulated (all of which increase or decrease the untimate goals of Units of Lye U.L. or Energy Level E.L. and the machine holds the changes. Does anyone know if the Platinum Pure pre-sets can be restored to factory settings?

Synchro a $400 add on option!!! My gosh, i tend to think it might be worth it as much as i hear it being hyped. Would Dectro be the only ones to do this? Is it a hardware upgrade in the form of a computer chip or only software? How much do you know about Synchro physically modifying a Platinum Pure’s “guts” and then regarding the Synchro setting, how useful is it and what is everyone’s technical understanding of SYNCHRO. PLEASE…
