new to electroloysis need suggestion, please!

I am a 25 year old male and want to get electrolysis done on my upper cheeks. Within the past two years i noticed that the hair on my upper cheeks has thickened. I went for two consultations and the first clinic said that they will be using shortwave. SHe was not able to answer my question clearly and had speech problems so i did not want to use her for her services. Then i went and talked to another clinic. The guy at the clinic answered my questions and made me feel comfortable enough to have 30min session done with galvanic. But with the glavanic only small patches of hair was treated and with this rate it will be at least six weeks before i see a clearance.

At this point i don’t know what method i should use. Should i first have a shortwave done and have the clearnce and then use galvanic or keep on using galvanic. Honestly at this rate the glavanic will cost a lot of money. When i asked the individual about the blend method, he answered that galvanic is more effective than the blend alone.

What are your suggestions? Also I am in the philadelphia area are there any clinics that anyone can recommend. Also how do i know that the machine being used has the ability to do blend?

I would appreciate it if the professionals can make some suggestions as well.
thanks

You need to find someone who can get you clear as fast as possible, and put you on easy maintenance thereafter. You won’t clear a beard with galvanic unless you just happen to have gobs of time and money is no object. Of course, if money is no object, then you should just find someone that can get you clear as soon as possible, in the shortest time possible, and enjoy the easy maintenance phase where you enjoy 3 to 4 weeks of looking like you are finished.

If I were working on you, I would use PicoFlash for most, it not all the work, and you would be on track to be finished in 18 to 24 months.

I would look for a thermolysis practitioner. Kathy Haas has a great epilator. Get a consultation with her and others so you can decide better what to do. Compare, compare, compare. Blend and Galvanic work very well AND… so does properly performed thermolysis.

James and dfahey, i really appreciate your feedback. Dfahey i have sent an email to Kathy Haas and will set up an consultation with her.

I am new to this so i just want to make sure that i understand this properly. I thought that once you get electrolysis done you have to go in every week or when the hair starts to grow. James you are saying that i can go in every 3 to 4 weeks?

Also when we talk about clearance does that mean getting all of the hair removed permanently or just for the time being?

So dfahey you are saying that thermolysis is just as effective as blend if performed properly?

Once again thanks for your replies!

You should go in once a week until you obtain your first, full clearance. If you do a long session, you may get a full clearance at the first session if your electrologist can do a long session. Thereafter, you can be seen every three to six weeks until you are finished, as long as you get cleared every single time.

Thanks dfahey for your feedback. How do you know of Kathy Haas?

Clearance means that you leave the appt with no visible hair. You should strive to have long enough treatments each time to achieve this. That way, you’re fine to go in once every 3 weeks or so since the hair will still be in anagen.

I don’t know Kathy on a personal basis. Don’t know what Kathy looks like, but I’m sure she is cute. We connected a while back on the American Electrology Association Discussion forum, for member electrologists only, and I sent her a client who lived closer to her than me. A client was flying from New Jersey to see me (very expensive venture) and I wanted to help the client find someone closer to her home to continue treatments. The client liked her. I talked to Kathy on the phone once and we have e-mailed a couple times. I just sent her another client of mine who is continuing his studies in Philadelphia. She has an Apilus Pure and has been an electrologist longer than me, so I get the sense that she would be a good first choice to start the consultation process. I have not had any treatments with Kathy. I don’t travel all over the USA like James does to get sample treatments from other electrologists. I get no money or kickbacks for dropping a name and would refuse to take anything if offered. You can try as many electrologists as you desire and you should make a comprehensive effort to find someone good.

Dfahey, i have a consultation with her tomorrow, will let you know how things went. she sounds like a really nice lady.

Say hello from me!

Sorry, I have been too busy being the hair reaper, feared by follicles (and one humanoid) the world over.

If you can establish a full clearance, you can reclear the area once every 6 to 12 weeks, and still get finished in 18 to 24 months. If you want to look finished from the start, you get full clearances every 3 to 4 weeks. That way, you always look finished, even while you are still working on the hair. You see, the electrolysis provider can remove hairs you can’t see, so they can work on you every week, but you can go in once every 3 weeks, IF it is possible to clear out all the hair you want in one sitting. Even if it is not, as long as you fully clear the area through a combination of treatments between 3 and 6 weeks out from your last clearance, you will still be able to appear mostly clear, even as you work the process.

The electrolysis provider can catch the phase, and stay on top of it even as the hairs grow.

If you can find someone who can do this, you are golden.

Kathy Haas only does females. So it was a no go. Today i went to this another electrologist that i had talked to and was going to do an hour session with her. When the session started i noticed that in the beginning of the session some of the hair were being pulled out and then later on i realized that she was not even wearing gloves. After the half an hour i told her that i don’t want to go the full hour. Intially she was asking for $110 but i negotiated the prices down to 90. I paid her $45 and walked out knowing that i would never go in their again.

I made another appointment with this lady in NJ who has the Apilus pure. At this point i am really discouraged cause i have realized that importance of finding a real good electrologist and that this is a slow process. I thought that with in 3-4 sessions i could get a full clearance but today the lady that i went to removed hair close the area near my eye and i still have hair there. The hair around my eye is very thin.

How much area can a good electrologist cover with in an hour?
Thanks

Hi ktothea,

It really depends how many hairs there are, how much ‘clearance’ you are after in that area and the speed the electrologist works at.

For example, it make take hours to completely clear my upper lip of every single minuscule hair but clearance of more te obvious hairs which are visible from a normal distance was achieved in less than an hour.

My electrologist does anywhere from 5-8 hairs/min with Blend, which is mostly what I have done. She does more with thermolysis which is what my sister mostly has done on the sides of her face.

Here are some pictures from my thread:

Stoppit$tidyup thanks for posting on this tread and posting your pics. you do look a lot clearer. If your electrologist can do minimum of 5 hairs per min then that’s 150 hairs in 30 mins. which is really good. I just had blend done yesterday and don’t feel that 150 hair was treated. It is hard for me to find a good electrologist since i am a man. Not too many females want to work on men. which is disheartening. so i just hope that soon i can find a good electrologist. Congrats on getting engaged and best of luck with your progress!

Around the eye, upper cheek area , the skin is fine and sensitive, and only a very experienced practitioner using an apilus platinum would attempt all of it at once, especially on a new client. Once you find the right operater, things will progress faster for you. You are now appreciating how vital this is,so that in itself is a step in the right direction. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised by your next appointment.

Well, I learned something new today. I truly didn’t know that the electrologist I suggested see’s only females. So sorry, but there are always reasons behind such decisions, I do think. Keep up the search and good luck.

Hi,
I had a full removal by James earlier this year. From memory, one FULL cheek took him 3 hours. So, if you can find someone with the best equipment, you’ll be in and out in no time. J

all of the electrologist that i talk to say the same thing even the ones with the apilus that it is not the machine it the skills of the person operating it. Three hours on one cheek does not sound that bad tempje.

dfahey, you did not so i am not hold you accountable for anything plus i still appreciate all of your insight.

If the treatments you got were good, I would not a little thing like gloves stand between you and good work, done well. A little hand washing is just fine, or if you really want to make gloves a priority, then get her a box of dash nuvo nitrile, size small by calling 1-800-523-2055 or go to www.DashMedical.com and ordering item # NV100S
While you are ordering things, you can get a pack of Ballet Gold size 4 probes for her as well from Texas Electrolysis Supply 1-800-625-6025 www.TexasElectrolysisSupply.com If she had better vision equipment, she could probably get a size 5 or 6 in those follicles.

Although I am happy to hear that Templje is well and posting and saying nice things about me, I have to say that the speed that anyone can clear your cheek has to do with the number of hairs in the area, the speed at which THAT person can work on YOU and the speed at which you can tolerate them working.

I had one client whose upper lip had 1,000 to 1,500 hairs PER LINE across from corner to corner. On other people, that would be all the hairs in their entire upper lip.

Someday, if Templeje decides to share pictures, you may get to see just how thick and plentiful his beard was, and what that clearance did for him.

There is someone else on the forum who is in NJ and recently found a good electrologist there (central NJ). Try to run a search for posts by “ihatebodyhair”
