My Electrolysis Journey

Hi Stopit,

I have just had a look at the parkside website and will call tomorrow for a consultation. Can I ask what type of machine the electrologist uses? As most use Sterex in Kent. Thanks, Stopit.

Pokka x

Can you believe that I’ve never bothered to ask?

From my knowledge, with the older epilator’s it doesn’t really matter what is being used, rather the skill of the electrologist. The electrolysis works and that is all I have ever cared about.

There are 3 BIAE registered electrologists at Parkside and they do remedial electrolysis too, so they take it pretty seriously. I’ve also had milia removed and my friend has had thread veins on her nose removed, both successful.

I think you will find it more painful than what you have experienced so far though but let’s see. If you book a consult with mine (her name is Sharon), she’s receptive to discomfort and will do her best to make treatment as easy as possible for you, whilst still being able to do her job.

However, I know they are heavily booked in the run up to Christmas. My last appointment about 2.5 weeks ago, I had difficultly finding a suitable time for this week, so I have to leave work a bit early. I also booked in my next appointment as the receptionist said if I left it til now I may not get a time I want.

Hope you manage to get a consult with Sharon and soon. Let her have a look at your skin reaction and talk to her about your previous good electrolysis.

Keep us updated hun.

There is Jenna Clifton - Electra Beauty based two days a week every two weeks in Northwood it’s a little far out for me and probably for you as well. She has an Apilus machine.

Meanwhile like Stopit I’m with Sharon at Parkside and like Stopit I have never worked out the machine - think it might be Rita Roberts machine - don’t know if that makes it a Sterex.

All the best.

Thanks for the further info, Stopit. I will certainly call for a consultation. Hopefully I will manage to fit something in soon.

I was just thinking about the first electrologist I went to see in Tonbridge wells, Kent. She was a really lovely lady. Then I checked the site and found she offered IPL for face as well as electrolysis, that was enough for me to close the browser… I am getting quite tired of this now.

Also, another thing I wanted to mention. The lady I went to see in London wanted me to go for a PCOS test and also mentioned that she has helped previous clients get their money back from laser clinics due to the unacceptable level of treatments they have received. She also spoke of hygiene levels in BIAE qualified electrologist clinics and how she found them to be inadequate. I’m am not in a position to agree or disagree, as one cannot assume all electrologists have the same standards but this certainly got me thinking. She said that most electrologists keep the tweezers they use under a UV lamp and she explained that this does not disinfect the tweezers sufficiently. Can anyone give their opinion on these matters?

Bec, did you speak to her about things like this?

I have to go, gotta be up early, I will do my best to get some pictures tomorrow and hopefully post soon.

hey, good to hear from you thereish! i was hoping that pm would get your attention, lol.

Jenna is who Pokka had her most recent treatment with and the results weren’t good :frowning:

If you go to page 10 of this thread another user Bec has just told us that her bad electrolysis in Nottingham was done by Jenna too.

Did you ever have a consult with her? If not, I’m guessing it might be lucky that she’s too far out.

That’s interesting.

I do agree that good hygiene is important but I guess everyone has their own levels.

Sharon wears gloves, gets fresh needles out in front of me. She usually pops somewhere else to fetch a fresh pair of tweezers so I suppose that’s from where ever they are cleaned. How they are cleaned, I don’t know. Since I’ve never experienced bad hygiene side effects, I’ve assumed the standard must be enough.

I will try to remember to ask how they clean/disinfect them at my next appointment.

Forceps or tweezers need to be sterilized in special units. A UV lamp? This doesn’t sound right to me. Can you purchase your own forceps and sterilize them at home after each appointment? I feel ridiculous for suggesting that, but it’s for your safety.

Dee

Dee, I don’t think anyone has done this. The electrologist Pokka saw claims that others do this.

I did a quick google search and it seems pretty common knowledge that UV is not sufficient or appropriate for tweezers, so I would be surprised if anyone actually does this.

Pokka - I hope she wasn’t trying to make herself sound better by putting doubts in your head about other electrologists.

The only other electrologists in London who were recommended by a number of people when I joined are/were both BIAE - Sara in Harrow and Geri in Walthamstow (retired for now). They must be doing something right.

Whatever the case, if one observes that the sterilization and disinfection procedures are disgusting, then one needs to speak out about what they see. I’m almost sure that the BIAE would never have this standard approved (UV light) and any electrologist doing this should be reported. Last resort for anyone feeling uncomfortable with certain practices regarding probes and forceps would be to have the electrologist purchase these critical items for you so you can be in control of what touches your skin. That is, if there is nobody else you can go to for hair removal that runs a hygienic office.

hey pokka, yeah its definatly the same lady, Jenna clifton. She did talk to me about things such as thinking BAIE electroysists were inadequate. She also used to go on alot about how she had the best training and eqipment and all the rest of it. I felt like she was the best but then my skin was telling me a different story. Since deciding to stop working with her i have been back and forth to a few different places but have settled on that place in newcastle that you and stop it recommended. Treatments are coming along alright, i wish it would work faster but then dont we all.

To be honest i would advise against Jenna, i know she seems so knowledgable but something doesnt add up. I cant quite put my finger on what it is but my skin just wasnt healing how it should. She reassured me that it would go back to normal but then i listen to what people like Dee and James say about skin reaction and i just wasnt comfortable with it.

Have you spoken to her again about your skin? Also just wanted to reassure you that it will heal in time so dont stress about it to much.

Have you had a pcos test before? she talked to me about hormonal imbalances aswell. I have been tested and all seems to be ok as far as my GP is concerned.

Stop it i know how important it is to add details of bad experiences on here but i thought with Jenna it must just of been me! however, after seeing pokkas reaction i think Jenna must have been doing something wrong.

Anyways pokka its up to you what you decide.

Let me know how you are getting on xx

Hi all,

Thanks for all the opinions and replies. I really appreciate it. I haven’t had time today to take a picture during daylight. I will try tomorrow.

Hi Bec, I think you are right. This may be a type of tactic, but it got me thinking more about hygiene, which to me is a good thing. More importantly, Thanks, Bec, for confirming that this was your Nottingham electrologist and why you felt unhappy with her.

I think I’m getting to the point that I feel I need to find a way to get back to my Dorking electrologist. I will definitely do my best to get to the Islington electrologist Stopit rec’d. I didn’t get a chance to call today, hopefully tomorrow…

I am going to have a talk with Jenna and see what she can do about reducing the scabs, as none have them have fallen off so far and it’s been almost a week now. Usually a few should have fallen off by now.

Thanks so much to everyone for your input and support. My lack of time had me thinking I had a lack of options and therefore I’d have to take what I get, but there are more important things to consider before making such a rash decision.

Hi everyone,

A picture of the healing on the test area 4 +7days:

and, a picture of the progress on the right side:

As you can see I have outlined an area; this area no noticable (with no macro camera or magnification  ) regrowth for some reason, I’m not complaining, this is my little hope area. I have not bleached for two weeks, so you can see the regrowth near and under the jaw-line.

Also, my Dorking electrologist has got in touch and offered to try and fit me in for a longer weekend/evening appointment. She has also said that she may have figured out a way to reducing the crusting I was experiencing after treatments, which may enable us to try a longer appointment if my skin reaction is ok. Now I just need to find out what dates/times she can do and see if I can make them work. Fingers crossed!

hey pokka, yeah i think maybe if you stick with the dorking electro it may be best. I have had exactly the same problem as you with trying to fit it in and finding someone to stick with…what a nightmare it is!!

I would be interested to know what Jenna says about your skin and any advice she gives, with me she just reassured me it would go in time. However i thought well if i am going to be getting this done every two weeks for the next year then im gonna look a right mess.

Just wanted to add, another reason i was concerned is that my skin never really scabbed, it just had little red marks that took ages to go but they werent hard scabs.

Alao want to add for anyone coming across this thread that im sure Jenna is very good at what she does. For myself however my skin just did not like her method. It may well work for someone eles though.

pokka and stop it talk to ya soonio. x

Pokka, it would be great if you could work something out with your Dorking electro. Looks like she’s done a good job, yay!

Hope you guys work something out

Apparently, this electrologist was Jenna too:

I don’t know, the things I have heard from the two of you don’t inspire me with confidence about her. Also the fact both your negative experiences came from the same electrologist!
If it were me, I would not go back but also let her know that I had previously had effective electrolysis with no where near as bad a skin reaction, so there is no reason she should be causing it either.

Hope you both get on okay and look forward to hear how you get along.

Mine is going same as ever - upper lip is coming along nicely. Endless work on the rest of my face but it doesn’t bother me as I only devote 15mins every 3 weeks to it. Aerolas haven’t had a any hairs to be treated come up in a while, so they may be done. And finally, working on my underarms (hairs left by Laser) but that’s a fairly small job.

hey stop it, glad to hear your electroysis is coming along nicely! i just read that thread…im starting to think i only just stopped working with her time!! i had 4 clearences, my skins nearly back to normal but not totally, thank god i didnt continue.

i dont know what to do, no one seems to fill me with confidence anymore, i cant believe it when dee and james say that some electros wont harm your skin at all, you guys really need to come and train some people in england!!

saying that my current electroysis is not that bad, certainly not as bad as when i was going to nottingham. I go red with a few scabs but its not to bad.

talk soon xx

Hiya Bec,

I know, I am really hoping my Dorking electrologist can make time. She doesn’t usually work evenings/weekends, so I really appreciate that she has offered to try and make appointments for me.

I didn’t have time to call Jenna today, so sent a quick email with a picture. She said that the areas have healed quite quickly and she will be able to make a full assessment when she see’s next. Though I don’t think I will be able to see her again.

The red marks you mentioned, I have them too, on both sides of the face and was thinking a couple may be ingrown hairs? and the others are definitely marks left from where the scabs have fallen off now in my case. You are right, in the long run these kinds of scabs will take a long time to heal with a two weekly appointment schedule.

I agree with your last point too, Bec. She is very professional and good at what she does. I didn’t feel one insertion, only the energy. No pulls. She talked about what she was doing and what she could see whilst she was treating me. Her hygiene level is excellent. She talked me through aftercare whilst she finished up. All in all is is a very good electrologist.

Hopefully the tea tree product I have used this time has helped healing move along, that’s one good thing

Hiya Stopit,

It’s great to see that little bit clear… makes you feel like everything will be alright. I will definitely feedback that I didn’t have this reaction with the Dorking electrologist and ask why she feels it is necessary in the initial stages of her proposed treatment schedule.

It’s great to hear you are getting on well with your treatments.

Will update soon. I am very busy over the next few days, so wanted to write back to both you and Bec now. Night!

Managed to squeeze in an appointment with my Dorking electrologist for Saturday! Yay!

yay!! thats good hun, let me know how your skins coming along!!

Im gonna try and get an appointment for sat in newcastle aswell, the dreaded hairs coming back in fast…esk!!

will update soon, good luck xx
