Most effective permanent hair removal?

I think you should do some journaling or talk with someeone about being unhappy with your appearance. There is a disorder called body dysmorphia . . .

To be feeling so bad about only having a little hair sounds like maybe there is something else, like the fear of getting older?

I’m sorry because now you’ve gotten defensive so you aren’t going to listen to anything anyone says besides:

“use blank laser, it will work perfectly for you.”

Sadly there are people who are going to tell you that.

You do know what your talking about dont you Dfahey?
I have faith in you from what Ive read in here
what that meanie is saying is very disheartening!
I dont want to believe that there is no hope for me!
Tell me he’s wrong?

I guess you’re directing this at me but since you don’t quote anything it’s hard to tell.

I probably do have a skewed idea of my own appearance. I was bullied relentlessly when I was younger. And to be blunt, I am well and truly pissed off with being told that my body hair is not as bad as I think. I am confident in my looks, and I am not bothered about getting older. I know I am not an unnattractive girl, but I personally would feel 200 times more confident if I had this hair removed. I know it’s probably not as bad as I make out, but I am fed up of being reduced to tears about it. If I am offered the chance to make myself feel better, to gain more confidence and self esteem, why shouldn’t I? This is the only issue I have with my appearance and it can be fixed. Why should I not take that chance?

I appreciate that,
Maybe I have got it
But at the end of the day being smooth makes me happy, when I do wax/trim whatever I am very happy with the way it loooks…so its not as if it would be one problem/fix it/next problem/fix it…I know what I want changed and why and Im going to get what I want.
Im not being defensive, we’re are only here to ask and be told, so ofcourse your views/info is appreciated regardless of whether it is what i want to hear…

Well it seemed like he was referring to me, due to him talking about the title of this thread, etc… Regardless, if someone comes here asking for help, it’s not that nice to insult them :frowning:

At the moment, the only definite permanent hair removal is from electrolysis… But lasers have not been around anywhere near as long as electrolysis. People are getting good results from it, if they weren’t, it would not be on offer.

Think of it this way:
Is the cost of it worth it, in relation to how much better you’d feel about yourself?

It’s going to cost me about £1000 for 6 treatments on my arms. As far as I’m concerned, that is worth it, because it’s going to give me the freedom to wear what I want with confidence and not be afraid of people looking at me. People shouldn’t tell you that your problem is not that bad, because they have no idea what is going on inside your head. If it’s going to improve your self esteem, then do as much research as you possibly can, find a decent clinic with good testimonials and licensed practitioners, and go for it.

Well that is true, My boyfriend is hammering me for coming on here and says Im being utterly ridiculous…I wish you all the best of luck babe, just make sure you let us know how it goes x

People usually don’t understand how bad some people feel about their body hair, no matter how visible it is to other people… Good luck in whatever you decide to do, I’ll update some time in the future after my first treatment. Take care x

Girls, girls. You are both just like many of us and your desire to remove that hair is completely justified. On woman, coarse hair on bikini, underarms, legs are some of the easiest to treat with laser. You won’t find many unsuccessful stories here on those areas at all. The complaints here are usually from people who have 1. used a bad machine and/or bad settings 2. treated hair that shouldn’t have been treated with laser in the first place (very fine, light in color, etc) 3. went to the first clinic they saw and got sold on a package without doing any research. You are both already 100 miles ahead of all these people and if you follow the FAQs and everything else you learn here, you will be happy with your results.

Tomsk14, have you read the FAQs? That would be the best start for you. www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm . You need to find a proper laser and someone experienced in hair removal in paricular to treat you. Whether it’s that clinic you’re talking about can only be determined by doing your research here first and then visiting it to see if they have the right machine and good knowledgeable techs. You didn’t provide skin type and coarseness of hair information, so I can’t help more now. But I do suggest starting with 1-2 smaller areas first just to make sure the clinic you choose knows what they’re doing. Once you see results, you can add other areas.

I’m proof that laser works and many others on this site. You can read my story right under name below. Follow the link. There back and forths with jimmyjames are tiring and I don’t have the energy to retype the same thing what seems like every other day now.

Also, please consider perspective, i.e. the fact that jimmyjames had his FACE treated and with bad machines primarily at notorious national chain clinics in the US. This area is hard to treat as it is, and especially not good on a male face with a bad machine. He had a bad experience. However, if you read and research on how to get the best results and what to do and not to do on this forum, and follow it, you will be fine, as I was and am very happy with my results. And I’ve had both laser and electrolysis.

Hope this helps.

I say if there were a fairy of hair removal info her name would be LaGirl

Thank you so much

I have found a clinic with VERY reasonable prices,
heres the technology bit

‘At Laser-Clear we use Candela Gentlelase Long-Pulse Alexandrite Laser for maximum effectiveness with in-built cryogenic cooling for maximum comfort’

Does that sound good to you?

What is your skin type? If you are light, type I-III, GentleLASE is one of the best on the market. That is what I used btw.

link to some other success stories we track on the other forum.

Well its hard to tell, even reading the ‘diagnose your own skin type’

I would say I dont burn unless it is above 30c, I go golden rather then brown when i tan and my hair goes blonde, Maybe a type iii?

I apologise for getting so emotional, I know this isn’t really the place for that, it’s just something I feel strongly about and it very easily upsets me. You have been extremely helpful and I’m looking forward to my consultation next week. Thanks again for everything.

tomsk14, you can also be in between skin types. It sounds like you might be a III if you’re technically caucasian with dark hair (coarse is best), and in that case an alexandrite laser like GentleLASE or Apogee would be best.

Tomsk14, there is plenty of hope for you and for your hair removal needs.

One fun and fullfilling thing happens to me being an electrologist: I am so uplifted when I see sad, hopeless people almost magically turn into a whole new personality because they have triumphed over their hair problem. It is so amazing to see weak people become stong. Counseling can only go so far for people who are sick and sad with their hairy appearance. Some things cannot be changed when we have “flaws” with our bodies, but there is hope for the hairy, whether there be a lot of hair or a little bit of hair, there is always hope.

I think you are calmer and steadier now. Don’t panic if you get confused. Be methodical and ask questions and keep sizing up your situation. Your focus will take you where you need to be whether it be with laser, electrolysis of both.

Lagirl and Dfahey
Thank you to both of you, I feel as if there is hope now and I have to get saving and focused.
Thank you both very much again for all your support and advice, and I hope I can return here when I begin treatment and put something back into the site that has helped me so much.

Been gone a few days and check in to find another semi-rant from JimmyJames.

Listen, for some reason he is on a mission to protect everyone from laser hair removal, and seems willing to say whatever so as to make his point. Also quotes articles and agencies, like the FDA, out of context.

And doesn’t want to accept that maybe, just maybe, his experience was abnormal and not what most people experience.

I have been doing this for 10 years (this summer) and have done almost 400,000 treatments (we do about 70,000 per quarter now). No amount of hocus-pocus marketing would keep us in business if it worked like JimmyJames says it does. Not to mention that for me to remain in business taking people’s money after this long (if laser hair removal didn’t work), would imply that I have no morals.

Thanks, sslhr, that is an excellent point you make.

Most everything is market driven and freedom of choice dictates what will survive and thrive and what will fade and die. Sometimes it’s hard to steer this hair removal boat so information stays honest and balanced.
