Men shaving legs?

I just went two weeks without hair removal. Boy, I know I’m a die hard epilator now. I got caught up in a hectic work schedule, then my work sent me off to the east coast for a week. I didn’t want to do any epilating on the road without my usual bunch of skin care bottles and lotions, and I knew I probably wouldn’t have much time to do it anyway. I didn’t think it would bother me that much having some growth. But, by the time I got back home, it was just misery. My body hair had grown about 3/8’s of an inch out of my skin and I couldn’t believe the effect it had. I felt dirty, I was kind of introverted, and the feeling of the hair rubbing on the inside of my pants when I walked made me feel like I was wearing a monkey suit. I just kept looking at my legs thinking, “what’s all this sh*t” coming out of my skin?!" I’ve become so accustomed to being smooth. I just now have finished epilating pretty much my whole body and I feel just so much better. My self-image just went right back up. I know this sounds weird, but now I just don’t know how anyone can have a bunch of hair hanging off them and still be comfortable. Anyway, just wanted to post this.

Yes indeed once you got accoustomed to being clean and smooth you really do feel filthy with body hair.
I was wondering why you weren’t confortable enough to take your epilator on the road. Even if you were extremely busy, maybe just do one part at a time just like common people shave their faces everyday?

Hi Mantaray

You have pretty much caught the essence of what I was trying to say as well. Once you are fully used to smooth skin it’s very difficult to change back to a hairy look or lifesyle (if that makes sense).

Well said everyone. I have had no negative comments from anyone since I started shaving my legs 5 years ago. I shave for the looks and comfort. There is no quicker way to make your muscles look bigger than by shaving off the fur coat that covers them. I was amazed at how much bigger my muscles looked once I started shaving, even though I shaved initially for comfort reasons. I too feel more masculine after I shave. Plus body hair is a great breeding ground for bacteria. Just one more reason to remove it.

I wear shorts most of the time too and being clean shaven is the way to go. What really surprised me was how much more comfortable wearing long pants was when the legs are clean shaven. If I was required to wear long pants at work, I probably would have started shaving my legs much earlier.

Apes and women also have body hair, so I find nothing particularly manly about it.

I plan on doing less shaving in the future as I have started laser treatments on my legs with the Lyra-i Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser. First results look good so far.

Hi RJC

Wearing long pants with hairy legs is not comfortable at all. Before I shaved I assumed the sticky sweaty feel was normal. Now when I am forced to wear longs, for safety reasons in my work, I feel a lot more comfortable. When I get home, taking a shower is very quick as my skin is smooth and washes easily. I am also trying to make the switch to permanent removal which I think is the best option as I have no interest in having hair on my legs or the rest of my body anymore.

Personally I’m a hairy mofo, […](my father is a beastly ape who belongs in a zoo) unfortunately we monkey types are looked down on for being further down in the evolutionary scale. […] you’ll bag lots of chicks and the very few that are left might go for us yaks with our fur suits who shave or wax occasionally. It just sucks bein such a darn good lookin guy who is insecure over a thing like body hair UGH!

ROFL!!! Alan… you are hilarious!

I like hairy man, so don’t worry yourself sick. There are plenty of women who still do (all the ones i know for example). I might have to move back home soon. This country and its Japanimation induced obsession with hairless humans (an oxymoron right there) is really scaring me!!!

Are you Russian? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That is, you don’t have to sit in a beauty salon reading a home decorating magazine while listening to two women talk about Brad Pitt’s ass.

You guys are killing me!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

i went in for surgery 5 weeks ago and just had the cast removed. They had shaved my leg around my ankle for obvious reasons. Five weeks later the hair is only about 1/5 the length of the rest on my legs. I was just wondering if the hair would continue to take this long to grow in if i were to keep shaving my legs. Would other parts of my body have the same regrowth results or is it just the legs? Thanks

Hi thelegend

I speak under correction here, but I believe the average rate of regrowth for hair is 10mm per month. It will be different in other places of your body. The hair on my head grows faster than my leg hairs for example, so you will probably have the same situation. Before I shaved my legs regularly and was still experimenting, I shaved and let the hairs grow out again. This took 8 weeks and the final length was about 20mm (not a nice sight).

Interesting topic.

I’d love to hear from others about one thing that I am concerned about: reactions from FAMILY.

How did your larger family circle react?

I am concerned as I embark further down the hair-removal path about what kinds of things my large family - siblings, cousins, etc. - will think or say once they see me nice n smooth.

Any feedback and encouragement greatly appreciated.

I found that by using electrolysis to remove the hair,it happens a little at a time and no one in the family noticed anything. After the hair was all gone,no one said anything; because they seem to think it was always that way. As the hair disappeared no one realized it was happening. But now the family is always complimenting on how nice my legs look without realizing that I have permanently removed the hair. I have also removed my underarm hair and no one has noticed it being gone;and what a wonderful feeling. I would give hairless underarms as a top priority for feeling. No wonder women do it. I am told that removal of mens underarm hair is becoming very popular according to my electrolysis and far more than removal of leg hair.

My practitioner told me that a lot of men are having their armpits cleared. So I decided to have mine cleared with electrolysis and I’m glad I did. It feels great!

Barrester, how long did it take you to remove your leg hair with electrolysis? Did you have any scabbing?

why not use these? please help me, im not sure if i should use these products. i am a boy with unwanted facial hair on my cheek area, i want to shave it but then dont want it to grow back thicker, as i have noticed not many shave that high up on the face.

these products claim to inhibt the hair, so does that mean it could only be good? the hair will jus grow back finer each time?

any comments greatly appreciated, if u could email me back at [jc07960498511 at aol dot com]

Hi viceversa

When I first shaved my legs I did it in one quick session from very hairy to smooth, not bit by bit as described above. I thought that everybody would notice and comment about it in my family. My girlfriend at the time was the first and she was surprised, but said it looked “muscular”.

The rest of my family didn’t even notice until about 3 visits to my folk’s place. No one really commented about it which surprised me. Once while standing around the pool at a family get together one of my cousins looked and asked when I had started cycling - that was about the extent of it.

I shave every day to save time and it has been several years now so it’s my normal look. I don’t think anyone will say much if you shave your legs and wear shorts with confidence. If it’s the way you prefer to look just accept that that is how it is now - period. The confidence will come accross and nobody will say anything strange - just a question or two maybe. Simple answer “I decided to try it out”.

Thanks - sensible replies - all!

I am certainly moving in that place - just working up the nerve to go further with it all and ultimately, to be true to myself!

Wow, having started this topic it is great to see how long this has gone on and how much sharing there has been - thanks to everyone.

I still keep my legs smooth, for the most part. I generally have had them waxed - the smoothness is just incredible! There have been times that I have gone a few months between waxing but I will at least trim very short - when it starts to get long it just seems, like someone else said, “what is this all over my legs”.

I think that legs, whether they are male or female, look best without hair. I love the sight of a woman’s legs tanned and smooth - mmmm, so nice. Even better when they have some nice muscle shape to them.

I also think that most men and women would agree, if they could get over the idea of what men and/or women should or should not do, that smooth clean legs look and feel best. Nobody seems to have a problem with someone that naturally does not have much hair on their legs or other part of their body but once someone has hair and starts to remove it then somehow it is a whole different story.

Does anybody else do this - I tend to look at legs whereever I go. One, because I love women women’s legs and two, because if I see legs that are smooth and they belong to a guy then I kind of make a mental note - “another smoothie, good for him.” Sometimes it is hard to tell if someone has removed the hair or is just not very hairy. I may then be able to tell that there is some hair and it is just that they don’t have much hair. I then think, gee - what is the difference??
Oh well, just curious if anyone else tends to notice the smooth legs around them. I love when someone has some good muscle tone and you can see the way the muscles in the calf are flexing when they walk.

One last question - for those of you who have moved to removing hair from your legs: were the legs the last part of your body that you removed hair from or was it one of the first? I started out by having to shave the night before my vasectomy. They sex that night was incredible! I didn’t keep it up right away but soon after I started shaving my genitals on a daily basis. I then trimmed the rest of my pubic hair. I tried shaving my chest and stomach hair. One day my wife commented that I needed to trim my armpits - when I think about it now I had a lot of hair there. Well, I trimmed and each time it was shorter until I shaved them completely. I now shave them every 2-3 days. I can’t imagine not doing it - especially wearing a tank top in the summer or to the gym. If I am working out and have to raise my arms over my head I don’t like seeing any hair there.
One day I then shaved my backside - had to really trim first because I have a fair amount of hair. I didn’t do that very often until I had my first back wax and there was a distinct line on my lower back/upper buttocks. I then went back the next week to take care of it and she asked me if I wanted to have it completely smooth and I said sure. I loved it the first time - so smooth and clean. Shortly thereafter I had my pubic area waxed completely clean and then I went to my legs. I had shaved my legs clean from time to time. It was a hard leap, having my legs waxed. I even chickened out on one appointment that I made. I am so glad that I did make that leap. My esthetician has even given me compliments on how good my legs look. Actually, she has complimented me on my whole body. I work out and try to stay in shape - it is nice when someone appreciates it. By the way, all these comments are made most professionally. I have seen her for over two years and we are pretty comfortable with each other. Seeing that I am completely naked in front of her every 1-3 months along with being on my hands and knees so she can finish up my back side we better be comfortable toghether!
I guess I have gone on longer than expected. I hope to hear other’s answers to my questions and thanks for everyone’s input so far.

I didn’t start with my legs either. I started with both my wife and myself shaving each others pubic hair. It felt so good neither of us wanted to be hairy again. To keep from shaving regularly,we had it all removed by electrolysis. From there,we both had our underarm hair removed. While doing that the electrolysist suggested that I get rid of my leg hair which I then did. The area that gives me the most satisfaction is the smooth underarms. When other women notice the smoothness some then beg their husband or boyfriend to do likewise.

RJC2001: Its hard for me to state how long it actually took to remove my leg hair itself;because I was getting my underarm hair removed at the same time. Therefore at each session, the operator would work on both areas. It seemed that after about 30 working on the underarms, they would feel sore and she would then spend the rest of the time on my legs which were not to hairy in the first place. While I don’t think most girls dislike hairy legs,I think they appreciate a nicely tanned smooth leg better. It would be nice to hear from any male whose has regretted permanent removal of hair from any part of his body and the reason for the change in heart.

i tried shaving my legs when i was younger, but when i hit soph. yrs in high school i stopped. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Why did you stop. Were you embarassed or did you just get lazy?
