Legitimate electrolysis machines on eBay part 3

James, you need a new cleaning lady…
The seller hasnt picked up the first machine from the post office. If they dont by monday, it will likely be returned to me. If that happens, I have 2 options, first file a suit in quebec court for misrepresentation. Second, just repair the machine and resell it. I dont know which is the better or more likely option to be honest.I’ll send a demand notice when I notice the parcel is on it’s way back, its clear the seller is waiting for it to be sent back from further emails I;'ve had with them and it’s unlikely I’ll see my money even if I DO sue in small claims court because I’m dealing interprovincially. I still owe $100 of the $200 includig shipping I paid for it to my partner I borrowed the money from.

As for the other, I have every confidence once the lost card is replaced it will work like a charm. While I could buy a third machine for the same money I would pay for a card, it would not be the quality of the SM500. The seller never did come though with the partial refnd, so I’m skeptical on that too.

All this, and an upcoming christmas, means I probably wont be able to afford to pay everything back I now owe, buy the memory card, and actually start practising until febuary. Of course I can probably do thermolysis with the SB2 once it’s returned to sender, but that’s not so great for learners.

The sad part is, I’m also quitting smoking this week. I could have really used the little bit of endorphin from practising, to help as a distraction

Seana

Thanks Seana! I’m really sorry to hear about your troubles. You’ve had quite the drama from what I’ve been reading.

If I knew what I was doing, I would know how to test it. LOL

get a small piece or wire and a low amperage light bulb ( something out of a small flashlight ought to do. Connect the wire to one terminal on the bulb ( around the outside) and the other end to the probe holder.Turn the galvanic on high on the epilator and touch the other bulb contact to the annode. If it lights up, you have current and are good.

Take an egg. Turn the thermolysis side up and the galvonic side off. Stick the probe in the egg and turn on the current. If the egg white turns a bit white, the thermolysis is working.

Beyond that, you can also try just doing an insertion and trying somewhere on yourself.

Seana

Thanks for the info Seana. WOW! You sound like a mad scientist. I hope I don’t electrocute myself. LOL

should be fine, wear rubber gloves if you are concerned or use insulated pliers to move the bulb around once the power is applied tot he probe… You’ll need to strip the ends of the wire so it makes contact witht he bulb and the probe holder. And I am completely mad, bonkers I tell you.Would you care for a cup of TEA!

And just to show yu how absolutely mad, because I’m likely waiting so long to practise I’m considering the unthinkable, and maybe will get a one touch just to futz around with till febuary…

Hey fellow HairTell buddies, here is a chance to pay it forward.

Let’s see if we can get SeanaTG a SRAM Card. Click the Donate button and please give what you can. We need to raise over $250 to cover the cost of the card misc extortions, er, I man taxes, and also shipping.

When(if?) the appropriate amount has been collected, I will take care of getting the card to SeanaTG.

…James, I have to admit feeling a lil uncomfortable with that. While I am low income, I also have my pride and I dont know if I would feel very good about accepting charity. Honestly if someone had an extra they would sell for a reasonable price I’d accept that, and be grateful, but I really had no intention of sounding that desperate…

We just want to get you up and working sooner rather than later.

Well I sat in the bath and thought this over. I honestly as I stated dont want to accept charity. That said if I felt it was benefitting everyone here, I would feel alot better about it because I wouldnt be accepting “charity” per se.I’ve always had issues with this.I do apreciate the thought behind your offer however

I’m waiting to see if I’ll ever actually see the refund on the SB2. At this point I dont think it likely. The machine is still sitting in the post office in Laurierville the seller has deliberately left it there hoping I think not to pay the refund . As of tommorrow it’s been there for 10 days.Canada post states it will be returned to sender after 10 days, but on another spot on the site it says 15.My thought pattern had been that if the refund was honoured ( they are into me for $219 at this point) then I would kick in $100 next week and just buy the card. Unfortunately I dont think that’s going to happen.I suspect what will happen instead is the SB2 will be returned to me this week by Canada post and I’ll never see my money out of it.
If the card comes to be, then here’s what I’ll do. I suspect the SB2 will require somewhere in the are of $100 in repairs. I suspect that I am not the only person here who is feeling the financial pinch. When I looked at the SB2 what I found was evidence it had been reworked before, there was a transistor that had previously been replaced . the control board wasnt screwed in place, and a trace had been cut and patched professionally. The quote I have for diagnostics and repair on it from a local shop was $60 plus parts. I was hesitatnt to spend that money as I would be better suited to spend it on the card. However if the card comes from elsewhere, I’ll repair the SB2 and make it available for a loaner to anyone who cant afford to get started.Similarly, I dont know if any other practitioners have older machines they arent using, but maybe we could make a list of them if so for permanent loaners for others who cant financially afford the outlay, but still want to learn.

I dont know, maybe I’m being silly.I do appreciate the offer. I just feel really crappy accepting any charity without giving back. I give of my opinions on this board because I like being helpful and useful. It’s the same reason I plan on offering my services if I ever get qualified, to other TG in the arrea, because I know alot of them cant afford electrolysis and I feel it’s more important they get it than whether or not they have any ability to pay.

Honestly, I would be happy to help out in an endeavor like you mention. I would even travel the world helping out. Problem is, we would need people to actually pay it forward to make it possible.

I like what is said here, maybe these words will help you.
The Power of Asking - Amanda Palmer

Well I should know what will happen by later in the week. If either of the two amounts come to me, then I’m going to buy the card. I really want to practise. There’s other options I am looking at to make it happen sooner too, one is borrowing back some of the $400 I just repaid my partner on the two machines to get it sooner. Problem with that is I hate owing as much as I hate charity, and I still owe him $200 . He’d do it, but I would feel aweful about it.
Another scenario is repairing the SB2 if it’s returned anyway. It would give me something to work with at least, even if I had to wait to get the memory card. There’s the slim hope the seller of the SM500 might come accross the card in their deceased relative’s house. The problem with repairing the SB2 is that as I mentioned int he post it may have a limited lifespan anyway. That said if I did and got the card later, I could still donate the SB2 to someone who couldnt afford to start otherwise. I just wish I had a better idea of the functionality of that machine and whether it’s worth it to put money into it.I didnt think so before, and I could be right. Although the evidence of work done to it was there, it looked well done. It could well be something simple like a weak power supply in which case it may be fixed for less than $100 and work for years and years after. It’s going to cost $60 just to find out.unfortunately , I cant put more than $100 this month into anything but hydro and food. So I need to wait, see what works out where, and take it from there.
I still think that a machine library, is a really cool idea. If I can make that work, I definitely want to do that. And as long as I have at least one functioning machine myself, I’ll always be offering to help out those who just cant afford it otherwise. I see it in TG circles, but dysphoria over excess body hair isnt specific to TG. I’ve been really inspired by your and Michaels comments about helping out those who just cant afford right now. It makes SO much sense and even after I am done with “practise mode” and head more into attaining career goals, I want to keep those motives in mind. So many times I’ve seen folks I have referred to the school I had my work done, make appointments then cancel them later when they decided they just COULD not afford it. I dont ever want to see that happen when it’s something that can make so much difference to their self esteem. It’s no different than watching one of my kids when they are proud of themselves for something, it’s rewarding in itself just to see the smile. Maybe I’m overly sensative about it because I too have skipped on making appointmetns when I couldnt afford it this month or that but I think having something be rewarding like that, is worth way more than money.

I wanted to add here, as an edit, I just watched that link. I think we all can learn something from Amanda Palmer. Thank you james for posting that.

Well color me impressed. The seller of the SB2 emailed me tonight and says she will be sending payment tommorrow. I have to say I really didnt think she would, but if she does I can buy that card by the end of the week.I think my somewhat limited faith in my fellow human might actually be restored.

I was so impressed, I emailed the seller of the Sm 500 and told them not to send me any refund for the missing card.I think james is right that it was stilla good deal.
I did ask them to send me the cataphoresis roller though, which I DO know they have.

Truth is, they probably did not know the SRAM card had anything to do with the electrolysis machine, and did not know what all cords and what nots were a part of that set. If they can find the roller, they might get lucky and find the card, extra cords, and maybe probes as well.

Make sure you send them a picture of the Dectro SRAM card. They probably just did not know what it is. Depending on the time frame, it may have said Apilus on the card, with a pretty blue motif sticker on it, or it would have been a plain metal case with a generic black on white type face that just said “SCRAM CARD” Who would know that went with the electrolysis machine unless it was plugged into the machine… which it would not be since leaving it plugged in would drain the card’s battery.

well the thing is, they had a box of stuff from their deceased relatives house. They didnt know what anything was or what it was worth. They’ve looked in the box, and there’s no memory card. Having dealt with estate ssues myself I know it’s sometimes digfficult to “go back” and look for things especially if there are others involved in the estate.
They did email back, thanked me ( I had told them I wasnt going to accept the refund because I felt the machine was still worth it) and said they will send the cataphoresis roller this morning. That right there saves me, I dunno $50 maybe? It’s a shame about the missing card but who knows, maybe they will find it in the future and mail it to me, and I’ll have a spare.

I’m still at a loss for what exactly is the “goal” of cataphoresis. I had asked in another thread , and talked about my own experience with it, but didnt get a response. The one time I had it done was after a intense and long session of thermolysis so I’ve some idea HOW it’s done, but what I dont know is if it’s goal is to just make the skin feel better, or if there is any actual physical benefit that helps prevent scarring or skin reaction.

Seana

It helps the skin heal faster and pushes the post treatment solutions deeper in the skin, thus making them more effective.

(and now those who did not answer the question the first time, may not pile on and start talking about how I don’t know what I am talking about and its all rubbish)

Might I suggest sending them a pic of the (or similar) card so they know what they are looking for ?

I did a week ago Laurier. In fact I sent them a link to the apilus product pdf and the page the picture I could be found on. They, just don’t know. It’s ok, as far as I’m concerned it’s dealt with the moment I’m operational and that should be by next week. I did buy the machine for $300 and James is right that the value is probably in the range of $1500. I got a deal, rushed to Montreal, and didn’t check it before I came back. There’s an important lesson though buying off ebay, or kijiji, or craiglist or anywhere else used , always and I mean always test the product. I got burnt twice on two different machines. It’s an expensive lesson, but a lesson nonetheless.

James, Cataphoresis somewhat reminds me of the old time "violet Ray " machines. Long declared bunk, but there are still some people who believe in them ( not to mention a million kinksters who use them for fun) . Thanks for filling me in. I don’t use a lot of “after treatment” when I do electrolysis, something my practitioners have admonished me for a number of times.

Seana

Well the refund for the Sb2 came in today. Which means I can order the memory card out by friday. I’m all anxious now but cant take the other $100 I’ll need until then, so have to wait until early next week, but I’ll soon have my machine issues worked out. Finally.

Seana

Hey Seana, did you see the used Apilus on Ebay today? The bidding is currently at ~ $100? Are you one of the bidders? I’m also glad to hear that things are starting to work out for you.

I’m not buying any more machines. I’m laying the money out for the card to get my current apilus going, but no more machines hopefully. I couldnt afford that $100 if I tried at the moment. Besides there is no buy it now option, and it’s got 6 days to go. It’ll bid up to at least $800 I bet if not more. I see alot of the juniors going for 800-1200 locally here in ontario on kijiji.

in case anyone here wants the link though…
