Its Ruining My Life And I Think Its Time I Do Something About It!

hello all first off lemme start by saying i really enjoy this forum it provides alot of information about hair removal and i learned alot from other peoples experiences so i would like to thank all who contribute…

a little background on me im a 27 year old white male i have pale white skin and very very dark hair which is covering my chest/back/upper shoulders/lower back…

i dont have any gray blonde or red on my body so i keep hearing i would be a great candidate for laser but after reading some posts on this forum it seems like even those with the same characteristics havent had any great results…

i dont have much money but im trying to find a place that would let me pay up front by each treatment which i think i can manage…i reside in the brooklyn/manhattan area and have been searching my ass off to find the best spot…

then i finally made an appointment to romeoandjuliets in nyc manhattan last week BIG BIG MISTAKE first off they made me wait for an hour and a half just for the consultation then i finally saw her (Doc) and in the middle of her talking to me her phone rings and she takes teh call and talks for 15 minutes while staring at my chest it was very embarassing then she throws out a price of $8,000 for 6 treatments…

i asked her if a payment plan could be established and she told me yes it can 2 payments of $4,000 each…that was enough for me to put on my shirt and walk out as sad as can be thinking i will have this hairy burden with me till i die…

what really bothered me is they didnt have any pictures there at all of before and after for men all they had was 5-6 women there with ice packs on there chins all giving me a weird look when they can…i only went there cause of posts on the forums saying it was a good place to try out…

now im not bashing that place im sure they have there positives but for a guy i just think i chose the wrong spot…

this has been holding me back my whole life ive had a hairy chest from a young age ive shaved plucked waxed and still never got the look i wanted im starting to think its completely Worthless… waxing gives me so many red bumps that i cant even enjoy the smooth skin…

ok im ranting sorry bout that but i feel as if some on this board might understand what im going thru…

i found this place a few days back and was trying to figure out if any of u know anything about it…

http://advancedermatech.com/pictures.htm

i really like the fact that they actually show before and after pictures of real patients and the results seem to be great but im sure theres a catch…

can anyone recommend anything at all???i just have the feeling lately to stop complaining and do something about it i cant even enjoy the summer without being judged by other people “oh hes so hairy” since so many in the city are virtually hairfree and beautiful they think everyone is made like that…

i could really use some help on picking a good place i dont have the time or the money to shop around so many places so any info u can provide to help me i would greatly appreciate…

im so stuck i really dont know what to do…

first of all, don’t believe any before and afters you see. real people won’t usually give them consent. that’s not a good way to judge an LHR place. you need someone who knows exactly what they’re doing, how to best kill hair, etc etc. please read the FAQs and it will help you. www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm

Another place in NYC that’s recommended is Lynda the nurse. You do have to realize that if you want ALL those areas treated, it will be at least several thousands of dollars. This isn’t a cheap procedure. But you should have 3-4 consultations regardless and compare. Chris is the owner of romeo&juliet and cares a lot about his reputation (he’s a moderator on another forum). I would talk to him personally before dismissing this place. They’re very good at hair removal and have done this for years. Either way, check out 3-4 clinics like I said. You can use the search tips that I suggested in the FAQ thread at the top of this forum (check the top thread, last post).

You shouldn’t have a problem finding someone who will let you pay per treatment. some also have payment plan options, as well as take credit cards.

What you need to concentrate on is finding the best most experienced person to do this with the best laser for your skin type. They need to use high enough settings (esp on shoulders, upper arms, and back where more hair can be stimulated at lower settings) on the best laser for your skin, not miss spots, etc. DO a lot of research before you commit to any one place or price, and try not to pay in advance. Also, realize that this is a commitment and you’ll require at least 8 treatments.

thank you for responding so quickly lagirl like i said i really dont have the $8,000 romeoandjuliets asked for but i can sustain a per treatment budget which she told me was impossible and there were way to many hot girls there for me to be waiting around for 2 hours every session feeling embarassed…

it seems like a good place but just not for me…

im actually trying to find some opinions from other men who have or are in the same boat as me i have read all the faq’s on this site from lasers to electro to a ton of sad stories that came from bad results so hard to find the truth…

seems like most places in the city alone just charge alot since they pay so much for rent or maybe they have the best machines i keep hearing about cindy and i also keep seeing people say that her name gets advertised here to much for personal financial gain so its hard to really believe anything does she specialize in male clientele?

all i want is the most reasonable place i can go to during work hours and slowly try to get rid of this mess of hair atleast for next summer… kinda makes me miserable like im missing out on so much because of it…

i think its narrowed down to cindy/Advance Derma Laser- since they charge per treatment (not sure about cindy though)…

if u did look at the pics on there site seems like they have had more men then women so i kinda like that but am still so confused about the subject…

any other opinions are greatly appreciated

all places treat both men and women. it’s probably about equal. it’s also not the way to judge clinics. the way you should judge is by making 3-4 appts. use my recommendations to find clinics with the best laser for your skin type (alex or diode - try GentleLASE and LightSheer) and bring a list of questions to ask that I posted here as well. You’ll be able to tell how much they know and how good they are, plus how interested they are in getting you results, just by doing that and comparing. also, most clinics allow you to pay per treatment. at some clinics, it might be more expensive that way, but they would still allow it. if you’re treating all those areas, the cheapest way to go would be to get the full body rate at most places. Personally, I would start with just one area that bothers you most and try 1 treatment with the center you choose just to see how you feel about lhr in general, and how your skin responds.

You should give it a try by finding a local laser-specific or medical facility who uses a Lightsheer (or similar diode laser). I have white skin, and Had dark black hair. Just be prepared for a long (months, years) cycle of treatment for good results.

My name is Chris and I am the Owner of Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal In New York City. I read this Forum from time to time and enjoy it thoroughly. However, as I am quite busy, I will post selectively.

Every person who comes in for a consultation must fill out a consultation form. As such, we have a record of each person, whether a customer or a competitor. Within the last two weeks, we do not show anyone being consulted for chest and back for $ 8000.00. Our pricing is quite lower than that. We also do not show any consultation having waited for over 1.5 hours. The usual wait is 10-15 minutes. And we certainly do not have technicians who are on the phone for 15 minutes while consulting.

We would love to take pictures of each customer but since we are quite busy, we take pictures only in extreme cases.
We are here to treat people, not to show them pictures that may or may not be true. 55% of our customers are male and love our facility.

We have customers who get treated on their chin or upper lip at $ 75.00 per session and we have customers who buy packages. We do not force customers to prepay.

The link that you posted of the facility with pictures, you are referring to under a different name in your consequent posting. Hmmmm… ( In any case, it is a very good facility )

In conclusion, I am sceptical about your posting. However, since you are interested in good pricing and honesty, you may call our facility , ask for me, advise me of the date you came in for a consultation. If your consultation form exists, I would be more than happy to treat your FULL BACK and CHEST for $ 500.00 on a per session basis. If I do not hear from you, then our readers can make their own deductions…

Hello,i have been going to R&J for quite sometime.I have had nothing but positive results there and chris does care about his customers.I find 8000.00 very hard to belive i am having my back cleared and it is alot lower than that.As for the the results i am completly happy with my results am down to 3 times a year for clean up and i am completly happy with that compared to what it was.Just putting my 2 cents in oh by the way am a type 3 skin treated with the gentlease laser.

you are down to three times a year?
wow what an acomplishment. Where do you see permanence in that?
I am telling you guys electrolysis rocks!
I have treated couple of places and area stays clear!! same area being hit 10-12 times by laser where hair came back gradually after some time. So let’s not blame this on hormones or some other problems that stimulate hair growth that Shelby used to say on other site. Laser is not capable of killing hair for good in a large portion of human population period yet it is much more expensive that proven Electrolysis

this person didn’t say how many treatments in total they had, what areas they’re treating, etc etc. Hopefully, he’ll expand, but it sounds like it’s “cleanup”, meaning there are scattered finer hairs left, which is normal. He might even need to switch to electrolysis if that’s what happenining to finish those up if the laser is not targetting them anymore. But it’s impossible to tell, for either you OR me, what he’s talking about with so little information. Where did you get 10-12 treatments for example? He’s also obviously happy with the results, so it’s interesting how you turn this around into “laser doesn’t work”. Apparently, however it is working for him, he’s happy with it.

Laser does work, it varies by area. It worked on me. You should leave comments in threads that discuss how someone DID get results from laser as well to be unbiased and fair. In that case, it would be harder to make generalizations like “laser doesn’t work”.

Thats right its an acomplishment compared to what it was i am completly happy. As for you electrolysis rocks comment that might be true for some people and there will be an equal amount of people that would probably disagree with you.Lets put it this way Laser or electrolysis or whatever has its ups and downs but what counts is the ability for that machine and the practioner to improve the quality of life of that person and this is what Chris and laser technology has done for me.I am completly happy with going three times a year for touch ups better than shaving all the time and probably 65% is gone and the rest is much finer.I have had about 12 treatments but my skin is a type 3 so i do not get the full energy of the laser.Anyway im happy and thats all that counts.

if you are happy that’s good. It’s just you are small percent of people that actually got good results. Plus try going one year without touch ups and see what happenes then, what percentage of reduction you will see then. I am pretty sure you won’t be as happy as you are now.

“most people” are getting sold on ‘amazing solution to all your hair problems’, which is how LHR is advertised at a lot of places (especially the notorious chain), so people end up going in with unrealistic expectations as well as getting treated by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing etc. this person went to Romeo & Juliette where this is not a tactic, which I’m sure helps with his treatment satisfaction.

exactly!!

Hello indyboy2, just wondering if your completely happy with your results or just kinda happy with results compared to what it used to look like. I myself had 20 treatments on almost fullbody before I gave up,I did get a reduction in some areas and some areas no reduction. I still have to shave my back every couple weeks so for me it was better than nothing but it was almost a complete failure, for myself to be completely happy , all my hair has to be killed so I dont need to shave my back, balls, neck, butt every two weeks.

i would say i am in between completly happy and kind of happy i like not having to touch my back at all about every 16 weeks i start to get regrowth and go in for a treatment i can live with that

is the regrowth patchy, fine, sparse? have you tried seeing what will happen if you don’t go in for treatment and wait another 6 months?

much finer in some areas ,non-existant in some areas and other areas around the shoulers need more work an no i have no tried that

Come to Michigan, book an appointment with Michigan Laser Centers, talk to them in person (that Arabic women) and tell her what you want done, if she tells you how much it costs, tell her you were referred by “me…pm Me if you gonna do that, so I tell you who i am” and than say “plzzz can you dont charge me much, i am a studnet, or dont have much money…” etc.

Most likely if your doing your whole face you may pay for 1 appointment around $70 or less.

Lagirl are you in a diffrent world or simply just kidding yourself? He just said that every 16 weeks he gets regrowth. Of course his hair will be thinned and some maybe gone or just resting. Looks like he is happy with that. That is exactly what I had ater 4 months. Like I said give it a break and your hair will come back, rest assured, so
is it what they say it is? First it was permanent then it was permanent reduction then it was permanent reduction of hair density. You just don’t know what trick are they playing with people by using thise tricky words. They tell you hair wont come back but hair does come back and only thing that doesn’t come back and is gone permanently is my money
Another guy stated here, 20 treatments and almost no results. How many more?
now what side do you wanna be on…

I personally haven’t had any regrowth. It’s been 8 months. Did you see my post above? I asked if he tried stopping for 6 months. He hasn’t. Neither you or me can say how much will grow back if he did. He did however just state above that he has areas with no hair at all, some with finer hair, and some (shoulders which we already know is hardest to treat) with least reduction. But in either case, it’s impossible for either me or you to judge unless he decides to stop for 6+ months and tell us what happens.
