Anyone reccommend a Manhattan Laser Center?

I have searched this forum and its seems a lot of posts about Manhattan laser centers date to almost a year ago. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for something more dated?

I am a 27 year old female, light complexion, black hair, I have course hair in my bikini, underarm, and leg area that I want gone. I tan easy but rarely burn at all, I am assuming from my research that I need an alexandrite laser? I am very skeptical about laser so any referrals of someone that has been in the business for more than a few years and is highly trained is preferable. Any feedback is great! Thanks!

The areas you mention respond well to laser. This place has been mentioned with much positiveness:

Dfahey,

Do you know any other places other than this one?
I heard a horror story about this center dealing with Emla, the topical cream.

Do you know anything about:

Laser Cosmetica
Assara
Lite Touch
NY Laser
Manhattan Laser
Skintology

Thanks!

A horror story? Did someone die? Are you sure it is true? My internet impression of Romeo and Juliet have been very positive and the owner, Chris, appears to represent himself in an ethical manner.

I do not have any recollection about these other places of business, but maybe someone reading hairtell can give you some input. Sorry that I can’t be more helpful on this one.

Well from what I was told yes very close to it. A technician applied emla, more than the recommended amount and time, and someone suffered a heart attack. Crazy, but could be possible. This is why I am seeking a center that has more than one location and seems to be growing. This shows me that the company must be doing something right.

Did a bit of calling around and it seems that Laser Cosmetica uses the Yag for both skin types, is this possible? Will I get burned? Will it be effective?

There are six skin types. Read the Laser Faq’s first. This may help you determine your skin type. Yag’s are for people of color and alexadrites and diodes for lighter skin tones.

Dee

That’s exactly what I thought but they state it’s fine.

The hair is fine??? or the skin is light/pale?

Qbcmtr, we have never had anyone have a heart attack in our facility from Emla use. This is simply not true. As a fact, we do not use Emla in our facility.

I suggest that you are careful about what you write regarding rumors, as it hurts the industry as a whole.

By the way, your comments regarding " up and coming " centers makes me wonder about your intent and true identity. If your criteria is " How many centers the company has " then I suggest you go to American Laser Center, Lite touch or Laser Cosmetica.
They are also experienced in the field, not " up and coming " meaning " hardly any experience ".

We have been in Business for over 8 years, performed over 185000 treatments, won numerous awards and recognitions. We have the most up to date lasers of any facility in New York, train technicians as well as Doctors. Our record speaks for itself.

I was told that it is ok to use the Cutera coolglide on my light skin? is this true? I thought it was a yag?

I really like this center, but if this isn’t true I need to find the center that has lasers for my skin type.

Qbcmtr,

I live in UES and I am in the same boat as you. I had one treatment at Laser Cosmetica, they seem like a very professional center with several locations throughout the city, but now I am worried that you bring up the fact about a yag. I wasn’t smart enough to ask them. I am going to wait a few weeks to see my results. Litetouch or Assara would have been my second choice. Litetouch, I believe is run by medical doctors, so I assume they know about hair removal. Assara, they advertise an unlimited program at the NYSC I work out in at Rock Center, have to research them a bit more. NY Laser never heard of them and Skintology is more of a spa, right?

Stay away from American Laser Center they have IPL’s, which don’t provide as good as a result.

Romeo I never heard of your center until I used citysearch, nice reviews, maybe I should visit your center. Where do you advertise? I see you don’t use Emla, why is that? If I were to get it can I bring it to your center for use?

Sorry don’t mean to steal your post qbcmtr, just there is no threads like this on this forum.

The CoolGlide is an Nd:YAG. Is it “ok” to use on light skin? Yes, if “ok” is being defined as “safe.” It’s ok to use on any skin. Is it the best choice for light skin. No. If you were in a small town with one laser and it was a CoolGlide, then I’d say go for it.

But since you are in NYC, and you are the ideal candidate for an alexandrite laser, which when used properly gets the best results, why not go for the best bang for your buck!?

BTW, R & J is highly respected by others in the industry. I would not hesitate one bit to refer my clients to them.

We do not use EMLA because a large dosage of a prescription cream, if applied incorrectly for a long period of time may lead to complications. The same applies if anyone brings it in to our facility.

There is no problem using an nd:yag on light skin, but the treatment will not be effective. Cosmetica, Lite Touch, and Assara all have the alexandrite at atleast one of their locations. As for choosing a laser hair removal clinic, I wouldn’t choose Cosmetica, Lite Touch, and Assara simply because they have multiple locations, and disqualify R+J simply because it has one location. I would choose based on lasers, experience and price. Do your research on all 4 locations.

It is quite interesting to see OUT OF THE BLUE three new members sign in at the same time, one of them spreading unfounded rumours about R & J, the other one comparing Laser Cosmetica and Lite Touch and R & J , companies that have been in business for several years and including in their group, companies such as Assara , which has been in the market recently ( meaning the least experienced one )and making comments and comparisons, as though they are in the same league.

I smell a self promotion. Readers, draw your own conclusion.

Welcome to our world Romeo.

I guess if we are the constant target, we must be doing something right.

Even though I have no personal relationship or experience with Romeo & Juliet, I would not hesitate to direct the hairy to seek out your business. I have heard favorable comments over the years on this site and other sites and have also appreciated your participatng on hairtell to help out with laser questions now and then.

I think you are onto something, Chris, concerning someone’s deliberate attempt to weaken and smudge your business. I hope the viewing public will THINK and COMPARE for themselves.

I’m sympathetic because this is along the line of all the disinformation electrologists have to fend off constantly about electrolysis being antiquated and less effective than laser.

Dee

WOW, this is too much Drama for me to find out about laser hair removal from a forum. Maybe I should go else where for info, didn’t expect so many paranoid individuals.

Romeo, I read your reviews on Citysearch, you seem like you have a great establishment. Didn’t mean to start any rumors, I just met one of your former technicians in Brooklyn and this is what she told me when we were speaking about the emla cream. It’s funny how your description of “complications” is very similar to how she described it. Please take your issues with other companies to another thread and I never said anything about “up coming”.

I would appreciate it if anyone who doesn’t own one of the centers mentioned would give me their advice and feedback, so this DRAMA doesn’t continue on my thread.

Dee,

You are very helpful thank you!
