I had my bikini lasered. I asked the derm to give me a patch test on my arm, I shaved the area right before the treatment, Its been aabout a month since the treatment, and the spot on my arm is 95% hair free…I’m amazed…could it be that laser has finally worked for me?? or its too soon to tell, I will post a pic some time next week… ( I want to make sure my hair doesnt grow back before posting a pic)
Sweetheart,
I know how you feel haha.
I had exactly the same when I did a test spot with the lightsheer…
After about 3 weeks or a month I suddenly noticed that the area where I had the test spot was completely hair free…And I was like WOW! this works awesome…
And it stayed hairfree for weeks after…But then hair started to grow back.
And I found out it is just called “shedding” and completely normal. should happen to everybody that is treated by laser.
So, I am going to take away your euphoria, sorry, because it almost always happens after laser treatment.
Use the search function on this website and type in “shedding”
Yep Roma its too soon. It would be unusual for you to not be hair free 4 weeks after treatment, that is expected! it should stay this way for another 3-4 weeks (until about week 7 after treatment) in my experience
but then by week 8/9 it will come back more by the day! maybe…
and then by week 10/11 most of it is back
and then by week 12 its about time to go back again!
I do my laser treatments more frequently than 12 weeks–i do about 6-8
darn it, I thought since Gentlelase is a good laser I might see results… Im still gonna go through with more treatments on my bikini area though!
ok
AMH - depends what areas you treat i guess, but after 6 weeks hardly any growth is visible for me, at week 8 maybe but i wait until its fully grown back normally around 10 weeks or more, i was advised its more economical that way
If it’s been a month and there is no hair, it’s a good sign. And when you see some new growth there, it will be hair from the next hair cycle. So yes, this is good. The hair may be coarse enough there. Do you know the setting she used?
Lagirl for the test spot on the arm I asked for high settings since the hair is not thick but rather thin… Im still amazed that I’m hair free I’ve had treatments (stomach, lower back, legs) with yag before and never seen my skin this smooth, and clear.
For the bikini area she said she used low settings since it was my first time with Gentlelase . She did schedule me for another appointment in 4 weeks. However I called and canceled since I thought it was too soon…
So my question is when should I schedule another treatment, and what settings should I ask for to get permanent reduction?
“High” and “low” don’t really mean much to us because there could be so many different combinations and what I would consider high they may not. Can you ask for specific numbers? I’m assuming it’s GentleLASE on both areas? Then we just need spot size and joules being used.
Generally, on GentleLASE we don’t recommend anything under 14J (16J + is better) on an 18mm spot size. But of course, your skin needs to be able to handle that without any side effects. And it shouldn’t matter if it’s first time or not. Don’t pay for treatments that would be a waste at low settings.
I just emailed them for the settings used last time. The laser used is GentleLASE… how far apart should each treatment be for bikini line?
You need to go back in when you see enough hair come in after shedding. This is usually 8-12 weeks for bikini.
Lagirl how much did you pay for each treatment(bikini line) ?. I’m paying $400 for a full brazillain. I feel like it’s too much … I’m wondering if it’s possible to nagotiate on the price abit. Has anyone done that before? what’s the best way to go about it?
$400 per treatment for bikini is a lot in my opinion. I didn’t get a full brazilian, but I got most of it off for around $175 per treatment or so. I think it shouldn’t cost more than $200-250 per treatment for full brazilian in this market. I would shop around and bring them other quotes to match.
I have an appointment with them tomorrow for my second treatment, I will call a few places before going in for the treatment. I should also mention that the treatment is done by the dermatologist so that’s why I think they are charging so much…
Mine was done by a dermatologist too. I still think it’s expensive.
I called this place http://www.grecianmedispa.com/pricing_laser_therapy.asp , and they said they use the Gentlemax, their pricing is very reasonable…Lagirl, is this laser powerful like GentleLase? She said it has different spot size for different areas being treated. I’m still not sure why this place(http://gallachermd.com/)charges so much , could it be because she is a trained laser surgeon???
GentleMAX is a combo machine, so both GentleLASE and GentleYAG in one. So it’s definitely just as good as straight GentleLASE.
Clinics and doctors decide to charge whatever they want. They base it on what they can get usually.
I asked the lady over the phone if GentleMax is basically GentleLase and GentleYAG in one machine she said no it’s just GentleMax … I mean she doesnt even know what laser they have, I’m gonna go for an consultaion anyway.
You may have been talking to a receptionist. Talk to the actual tech who uses the machine.
So I decided to stick with the same place that uses GentleLase . I went in for my second treatment, everything went pretty good, it wasnt painfull at all.( prescription numbing cream). I was very bothered by the fact that she said the settings used are confidential…
