What are the usual settings for YAG to be used on skin type 4?
There is no “usual”. Skin types are approximate. You need to find a clinic that knows what they’re doing and can test various settings combos.
I’m just looking for settings that would be too low and therefore avoid them if proposed by the technician. For instance, it’s been discussed here that, for Alexandrite, settings below 16 J ( with 18 spot size) most likely will not cause long term results. Roughly, what would be those setting (below which hair most likely will not be killed permanently) for Diode and YAG.
GentleLASE is a bit easier to talk about in this way because it can only be used on light skin types, not a huge range like Yags. Also, GentleLASE is a specific type of an alex laser where pulse width is fixed, so there are only two adjustable settings.
On Yags, I would first look for a machine with good specs, i.e. large spot size (12mm+, 18mm like GentleYAG would be great) and ability to go low on pulse width (i.e. under 20ms).
Thanks LAgirl. Roughly, what would be those settings (below which hair most likely will not be killed permanently)for Diode?
I wouldn’t use a diode unless your skin can handle at least 25J+ with a pulse width of 20-30ms or lower. And I would try to find one with at least a 12mm spot size.
Marcus:
Settings on YAG lasers are specific to the Laser being used. For example, on a Cutera Laser, the setting may be quite different than a Cynosure Elite Yag setting, due to the way the pulse widths are arranged.
For Example, if you are using 65 Joules on Cutera Coolglide, this does not mean that you should use 65 Joules on any other Yag laser.
I am a skin type four and for my first treatment the woman used a Cutera cool glide nd. Yag laser with the settings 48 J and 30ms not sure about the spot size?
I didn’t feel much pain and my face wasn’t red and swollen after the treatments. Is this too low? What settings should I be looking for?
Thank You
If you can handle those settings on the Yag, you’re likely light enough for an alex.
How coarse is your hair? It sounds like you’re a female. Most females’ facial hair is not coarse enough for laser. That may be the reason for lack of pain.
