Yag on Bikini

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding using Yag laser to treat the Bikini area. I have had two sessions using GentleYag (Spot size 15, first treatment was a combination of 26 and 28 joules and the second treatment was 28 joules. Pulse width is 3). It’s been 10 weeks since my last treatment and pretty much most of the hair is back, however, it’s fine. My question is, shouldn’t the bikini area be ready for another treatment at 10 weeks? And since Yag doesn’t treat less coarse hair as well as Alex - as i have read around - does that mean I cannot get major clearance using Yag? cannot use Alex as my skin type is 3-4 (middle Eastern).

The hair is not back. It’s new hair from the next growth cycle.

You can wait 12 weeks if needed. It will get more coarse.

Thank you for your response. Do you think it is possible to get major clearance using yag if the hair was originally very coarse??

Yes. But it will never be 100% even with a stronger laser.

After the fourth treatment with the GentleYag 28 joules, spot size 15, 3ms…I do not have any ‘hairless’ patches…just very fine hair all over. My last treatment was 12 weeks ago. Only the hairs on my ‘bikini’ area are pretty much gone but as for the actual area (brazilian), the hair is nearly all there but very fine. I cannot tell what the issue is because I am middle eastern with very dark hair and I thought that area should have responded better. Are the treatments too weak? :frowning:

Why are they using the 15mm spot size btw vs. 18mm? Max on GentleYAG 15mm is 40J. If you’re a true type 3, may be able to handle GentleYAG on 18mm as well as GentleLASE.

She just would not use 18mm! I argued so much with her, two areas she refuses to use 18mm, underarms and bikini. She says the team that the company sent to train them said you must use 15mm on smaller areas :stuck_out_tongue: Is 28j on 15mm too weak?

In my first bikini session, she tried 15mm on GentleLase, don’t know which settings, but it caused very light hyperpigmentation.

LaserQ,

I know I might be intruding, but if you already have hyper-pigmentation why risk getting worse ?

Have you considered stopping LHR altogether ? I strongly recommend you to consider this.

With the dark and visible hyper-pigmentation I have in my bikini area (it still burns!) and legs/snail trail, I am having a very difficult time, emotionally speaking, when I try to come to terms with the way I now look.

Especially now that the hyper-pigmentation appears to be permanent.

Please, don’t push your luck, you might end up worse.

Pigmentation issues are not the norm and most resolve themselves pretty quickly. It’s simply a sign the settings are too high and need to be adjusted. It doesn’t mean one should stop LHR altogether.

Star123, I totally understand where you’re coming from. All hyperpigmentation that laser caused me was due to using Alex instead of Yag. Since I started using the Yag, I have had no issues so far.

LAgirl, any thoughts on the 28j, 15mm, 3ms settings for brazilian? So far I am disappointed, because only my bikini area pretty much is hair-free, but the rest does not even have hairless patches, just very fine hairs. I did notice that some of them are light (which is very shocking because I have very dark hair everywhere else).

When hairs first come out, they’re new and fine. It’s kind of like waxing. 10 week is still early. Wait 12-13 and then judge again. They will become darker as you wait. Keep in mind it’s hair from a different cycle.

It has been over 12 weeks which is why I’m freaking out. The bikini area is pretty much hair-free with a few hairs here and there. But the rest…is depressing me :frowning: it’s the same amount of hair but much finer (and slightly lighter).
