Worst electrolysis consultation ever- help!

I just came back from the worst consultation for hair removal ever. I live in Wellington, New Zealand and the hair removal options here suck. I was recommended to Shannons by someone reliable and had high hopes. The woman I spoke to shattered them. She shattered the reliability of electrolysis, the possibility of ever getting rid of the hair, and shattered the confidence and belief I had in all of the information and advice and personal experience given on this site. I’m so confused, heartbroken, and frankly, don’t really wanna live if there is no chance ever in my entire life of ever becoming free from this nightmare I deal with.

Here, in short, is what the beautiful blonde woman with naturally sparse and fine body hair and a black soul told me:

-Electrolysis can’t kill the hair the first time. It can take 6 to more times to kill a single hair follicle forever. SO, areas like the arm (which I wanted, along with every place else) is impossible and won’t work and that I should use IPL (is what she told me).

-When I asked her about lower legs, she smirked and said that was impossible because there was too much hair and that I should just wax! As if I don’t try that already and would be sitting in front of her if it actually worked for me…I wanted to smack her.

-I asked her how many hairs usually gets pulled out per minute (a question I read from a post that should be asked at a consultation) and all she could answer was “Depends on what is being used, since with galvanic, its slower and some hairs just slide out while others are tugged out, so you can’t really measure…blah blah blah” so basically, I DON’T KNOW.

-Hair is in different stages of growth at all times (true) and that you have to get it in its exact stage in order to kill it or else you have to attack the germs and/or shrink the pore which the bulb grows in, in order to permanently remove the hair and that this takes several times on the same hair follicle (Um, never heard this before?? Sounds like laser to me…or make believe? Kill the germs because it makes the hair follicle grow? what??)

Here’s some background information I got from her:

-One of the machine brands they use is Sterex, (or something very similar in name, starts with an S) Galvanic epilator.

-People having just facial hair done like the upper lip have been going for more than 20 years, still! What chance does that give me?!

-They don’t use mixed, just galvanic and thermolysis. Galvanic would be used on my face…its much slower but reduced chances of scarring, she said.

-She said most people who come to get electrolysis only get face, underarms, and nips done pretty much, and anywhere else on the body is just not done!! (because, I guess, there’s too much hair or something so they don’t recommend it??)

I don’t know what to think and how to feel, I’m just numb. Is she actually right? About any of this? This is the ONLY place where I live that was highly recommended, I mean this is the place. I don’t know what to do and what to think. None of this seems right. I don’t want to do IPL or laser again, the results were just not good! And not worth the precious money. I’m so lost.

Run, don’t walk, away from this person! Just about everything they said is wrong, and in some cases just ludicrous. Not to mention their lack of confidence in their own skill (would one go to a heart surgeon with such a lack of confidence in their ability?)

It does not take 20 years to remove facial hair, good grief! One could grow new hair over the course of 20 years, but it does not take 20 years to remove existing hair! Or even have to take 20 months, if one goes to a good practitioner and stays on schedule.

Electrolysis does not have to take 6 treatments or more per hair (where did she get that number from?) Electrolysis works everywhere on the body. I removed my thick nasty arm hair myself and it didn’t take 6 treatments per hair (or 20 years!) to do it.

Don’t give up, your situation is not hopeless and electrolysis can work for you! As a last resort, I would buy a pro machine and equipment and have a friend work on you; I am sure they could do a better job than the “professonal” person you describe!

Most of the people here who give consults like that are just not interested in doing the work required to do what you want done. Alternately, they don’t have the equipment and maybe lack skill as well.

If you want proof that electrolysis works, check this out:

I guess I have more proof of the reason why my office guest room has so many international travelers.

Be a good consumer and talk to other electrologists in your area. Just because ONE electrologist was highly recommended does not mean that others are not worth consulting with. Read the information found here http://electrology.com/consumer/selecting_electrologist.html and find the right electrologist for you.

Most of the electrologists here have successfully completed the hair growth that you describe.

Wishing you the best!

She wasn’t recommended but the electrolysis place was! I found out that Debra is the most experienced and actually owns the place so I’ll call and ask if I can get an appointment with her but I’m so hesitant about how available she will be…and if she has the same attitude. I’ve checked around and done my research on places (Wellington is an extremely small city) and all electrolysis places are owned by Spas. The more clinical places use laser and IPL and I’ve already been to those places and done those treatments which didn’t work!

I plan to move out of NZ in about 2 years and will move myself into a location that will be FULL of experienced hair removal pros like yourselves! I hope to visit one of you guys one day. I’ve had enough bad experiences for a lifetime in my short 20 years of living!

Nevay, someone should teach the beautiful blond woman, how other electrologists work hard.
