Worried about hyperpigmentation

Hi guys,

I apologize for this question, since its been answered plenty.

I am Indian, male, w/ dark skin (brown).

Have had 5 electrolysis tx.

On one arm, I am riddled with brown spots - the aftermath of the tx. Some of them look like they could flake off, while others look like a definite change in pigment color.

Is it always the case that this PIH will fade?

Let’s say we were comparing the PIH in my case, with electrolysis - to the PIH with LHR. I still have hyperpigmentation from a LHR tx I had done 10 years ago, as well as a spot of hyperpigmentation from a LHR tx I had done just this past summer.

Is the hyperpigmentation from electrolysis by-definition, transient? Or is it comparable to that which is seen in LHR, with varying results depending on skin tone of patient?

I went in for a test spot in October 2013. The hyperpigmented spots from that test spot are still around. I recall during my consultation, I was shown some pics of another Indian client. I can’t remember the exact details, but I believe that client also had PIH issues.

I will post some pics later.

Hi all,

Here is a pic. It’s most apparent in this spot. I didn’t pick on the scabs. They came off on their own and have since healed, leaving these marks.

It’s been 3 weeks at least. My arm is riddled with these spots - the majority of which are over a month old.

Any thoughts on this? Ty

Hi

I get hyper pigmentation too if I scab, I have had scabs that have flaked off and then pigmentation is left

It does fade, I’m Asian too and it probably takes longer with our skin type, I’m just guessing here

I use rose hip oil which is supposed to be good for scars, give it a try, it should eventually fade on its own though but the rh oil should help speed it up

If you expose your arms I would highly recommend a sun cream, I use everyday on my face even in the winter

Hope this helps

You absolutely have to avoid sun. It is very important.

Sun exposure not an issue for me. I use sunscreen on my arms even tho i have them covered up always

Ahhhh, thanks for the photo.

Let me say your PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) looks beautiful! This is “textbook” stuff for a guy with your skin type. Oh, it’s going to go away … guaranteed.

I have a youngster coming to see me (from the East Coast) who is also Indian. If you don’t mind, I will send him your photo, because (as I’ve already warned him) this is going to happen to his skin.

Those PIH “marks?” … it will take AT LEAST 6-8 months for them to fade out … often longer. In a year they will be history.

I got PIH too … I’m Italian … it was WAY worse than your case. It all went away.

Thanks for the beautiful photo. Oh, and the recommendations are “spot on” too.

I forgot to answer all your questions. You asked if PIH from electrolysis will react differently than it did with laser.

The only answer is, “I don’t know.” I will say, that in my LONG career, and working a LOT of people with pigment issues, that the PIH from electrolysis always went away. So far: 100%!

My City has a lot of Mexican, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Persian, Thai … oh my, EVERYBODY!" And, we (mostly) ALL get this “PIH.”

Common; goes away.

Thanks guys, Thanks Michael. Really appreciate your advice, and sure you can use the photo.

Hi LDLD! Could you please post a photo of that hyperpigmentation from a LHR tx you had done 10 years ago?
