wondering about my electrologists technique?

Hello everyone
I’ve been receiving electrolysis for about a month and a half now and I’m having multiple areas worked on. I’m male, 33 years old and I’m having my upper arms cleared, lower arms thinned, chest thinned, stomach thinned and my lower back cleared. I plan to move down to buttocks and more private areas in the future, but for now I’m mainly focused on my upper body. I really like my electrologist, however I’m questioning her technique. She is very professional, has her own office, uses blend with gold needles and has been doing her own electrolysis business for 15 years. I’m concerned that she may be undertreating some hairs and doing sort of a half-pluck, half-kill. She inserts the probe and starts providing current, and as she is providing current she will start to gently pull with the tweezers. The hairs release without much pulling, but sometimes there seems to be a slight pluck to it. Sometimes I can also feel a slight pluck and sometimes I can’t. I’m concerned because I feel as though I’m getting about half the hairs treated properly with the other half being under treated. She has also said some of the, as it’s been termed on here, red flag phrases such as “some of the coarse deep hairs may need 2-3 treatments”. So…before I keep paying for blocks of hours, I thought I’d see what some of the pro’s here have to say. I can provide pictures if anyone is interested in seeing. Thankyou all for reading!

My opinion on this is very drastic. If she is able to get a certain amount of good slides, why not do the same with all the hairs? Are you paying half the money? Simply I can not understand why this happens so often. :frowning:
If I were you, I would insist that she will make sure to properly treat all the hairs with a first and only time. If she refuses, arguing that this is not possible, maybe you should consider finding someone who does.

Thanks for the quick reply. I suppose I already knew what the opinion of this here would be! I watched the video you posted earlier of an example of proper electrolysis. I must say the technique in the video is very different from the technique I’m receiving. The problem I’m having is that she is applying current and at the same time gently tugging at the hair…so I’m not sure, if when the hair is releasing, it’s being completely treated or not. Sure it’s being treated, but why would she tug at the hair at the same time? It seems to me the proper technique would be to apply current first and then try the hair…rather than doing both at the same time. I’m not sure how I would go about telling her that her technique isn’t correct since she has apparently successfully treated hundreds of people over the years.

She is using the progressive technique. An excellent technique used by many professionals. Nothing to worry about, on the contrary, they say that you are not a true electrologist while you get not master this technique. Which I still do not. I need to practice more.
The principle behind this technique is precisely to ensure that the follicle has been sufficiently treated. Neither more nor less, just enough. And this happens when the hair comes out without being forced.

And I congratulate her for it. The point is that if she can make her clients achieve their goal with half the cost in time and money.

Thank you very much for clarifying things for me. I’m far from expert on the subject, and I just wondered after about 10 hours treatment if I should be concerned or not. You have given me a lot of relief! I will monitor things closely 3-4 months post clearances and post updates. You professionals that take time to respond to our questions are a god sent for us. Thanks again!

I’d also like to not that her probe insertion/technique is almost identical to the video you posted above.

I have nothing to add, except that I’ll be cheering on Seahawks in the SuperBowl tomorrow ;). Good luck!
