Will this result in scars? (pics included)

Hi!

I had electrolysis recently and was left with huge, deep holes. This was my second go at it, but first with this person. I had marks the first time and ended up with one of the larges pimples I had ever had. But these marks are much, much larger and deeper.

My concern is that I scar very, very easily. Easy as in I get scratched by the cat and I scar. Is it likely that these will scar as well? This was done with direct current. She didn’t take any hairs that needed to be plucked and switched to another way of doing if for the ones that were really really stubborn (I’m sorry, I can’t remember what it was). I was told I have deep roots so some really needed some working. I did call back later that afternoon to see if I should put Vaseline on it to keep it moist (I’ve had moles removed and always had to Vaseline them to reduce scaring as they healed).

Any advice?

The first one is shot in the mirror, I feel like it shows the depth a little better but it’s still, honestly, worse-looking in person.

p.s. Pics were taken about 24 hrs later. It’s been about two days now.

You will be fine.

I like the purest aloe vera gel for this. Use it as often as you like, but be careful not to get it in your eyes. Same with Vasoline or Aquaphor . Both helpful.

Please share this with your Electrologist so she / he can re-think some things.j

Thanks for the post Lilypad,

I’m looking at your photos and simultaneously your statement about “huge, deep holes” and “the largest pimples I have ever had.” These points of evidence don’t “match up.”

What is electrolysis? In the case of the straight DC technique, it’s a “chemical burn” that dissolves the follicle (column of skin) to the full-depth of the skin. You cannot accomplish this task … destroying a follicle … without SOME bump, redness and sometimes a pimple.

Young people have oilier skin and therefore pimples are more likely. I could get into a LONG-WINDED explanation of each skin manifestation … but I’m trying to not “talk” readers to death. (Being “talked to death” is the worst death of all!)

What you are showing is normal, fine and stop worrying. Dee’s advice is excellent, as always.

More than half the postings on Hairtell are about these “post-treatment” issues. Somehow, the “rank-and-file” electrologists out there are not satiating these common client concerns (and that’s what’s indicated, especially with a young woman). The operator herself should explain these issues before treatment takes place. I don’t understand! It frustrates the telogen out of me.

Thank you Dee and Michael. I’ll purchase a good aloe gel when I’m at the health food store later.

Michael: The large pimple I ended up with was not from seeing the woman I just saw. That was after my first electrolysis experience with a different woman. Though a large part of me suspects it was from the fact that she didn’t wear gloves, kept touching it during treatment, and went from touching my face, to touching a tube of some ointment with her bare finger, and back to my face again. I’m 26 and actually have very dry skin to the point of flaking. I have large pores on my forehead, nose, and around my nose that remain from when I was a teenager but rarely breakout anywhere aside from my chin.

I guess I have some more questions to ask before my next appointment.

Thank you both. I appreciate it. You both calmed my neurosis.

Gosh … not neurotic! It’s your FACE! Of course you have concerns! “Grill” your zapperette! Get the answers you need.
