Will the irritation ever go away?!

Hi Coffee!

Thie biggest side effect you’ll find with Spiro is the need to pee all the time. I was on 100 mg dose for a year ( I’m a transgirl) and it didnt hurt me in the least. You will be fine on a 50 mg dose.

It wont do anything to the existing hair on the face. At all. It will prevent new terminal hairs from forming and so as you remove the hair with electrolysis, it’s gone .

Ok. I think you just answered my question but I want to make sure. When you say “new terminal hairs from forming”, do you mean new hairs in the follicle that has been treated by electrolysis already or new hairs on follicles that have yet to be activated?

If treated properly with electrolysis the follicle is dead and SHOULD not make another hair unless it wasnt completely destroyed… What the spiro does is prevents previously inactive hair follicles from suddenly deciding to produce a hair because of testosterone. Spiro reduces and or eliminates your serum testosterone which is what causes these inactive follicles to produce hair. Did I make sense?

I should note, I am not an endocrinologist ( just as I’m not a professional electrologist) ! I just understand some of the mechanics of hair growth but ALWAYS get your medical advice, from a doctor!

Hi there! Any updates? I am waiting with bated breath for my results. I really don’t want to be on Spironolactone as I have perfect blood pressure right now, and I also don’t want to worry with watching my potassium intake. I also lift in the gym

Is this a permanent med that you’ll have to take forever?

Im sorry it took me so long to update. So at this point, I have been on Spironolactone for about 6 months now. I started at 25 mg daily, titrated up to 50mg daily, then titrated up again to 100 mg daily. I begin to feel “foggy” and “easily confused” while I was talking 100 mg daily so Ive titrated back down to 50 mg daily and I feel much better. I have moved back to Atlanta and have a new electrologist. She is AWESOME! I wish I had started with her a LONG time ago. She is CPE certified (first of all) and definitely knows what she is doing. I began working with her in June. I started with 4 weeks of weekly sessions and am now, in August, having sessions once every three weeks. So she is definitely clearing me up! I do still have some hyper-pigmentation from all the ingrown hairs so that’s more noticeable now then the actual hairs. Im using Neutrogenia Dark Spot corrector and its helping to fade the marks, I think. All in all, I feel like Im finally heading in the right direction.

CoffeeandTv I’m concerned about the amount of spironolactone you are using. To put it into perspetive 100 mg twice daily is the amount a typical male to female transwoman might take to completely remove testosterone production in their system. You seem to be taking that much, and yet reported only 10 pmol above normal female levels. That seems like you might have been overmedicating for your issue. Are your blood levels being monitored by your doctor? Is he prescribing that you use this much? It seems excessive.
Also , as part of your blood work not only should your blood pressure be checked, but your potassium levels should be checked. If it hasnt been mentioned to you, you should be avoiding potassium rich food as spironolatone has been known to elevate potassium levels through the roof.
Congratulations on your electrolysis progress, and on the new electrologist who seems to be just what was needed.
