Will it scar? First thermolysis treatment after years of blend

I’ve done lots of electrolysis over the years. Mostly great experiences. My great blend electrologist retired and there are so few people left. I finally found someone who did thermolysis. She did my upper lip, half with thermolysis and half with blend. Both sides swelled up enormously, with the thermolysis size much worse, red, angry, irritated, scabby and white heads for several days. Normally, I might get a touch of redness and some whiteheads with my other practitioners.

A week later, I still have red raised spots, with some small indentations in spots too. Primarily on the thermolysis side. It is getting better day by day, but I’m worried about scarring. I am not going out much right now because it looks bad and the redness is in the shape of the mustache, and looks embarrassing.

One thing to note, I only had my upper lip attempted by a woman who I got zero results with. For two years not one single hair was effectively removed. (Tried someone else after, and within 4 months, all completely gone. I didn’t try the upper lip with her though, as it was covid and we kept masks on.) And with the woman who I got no results from, I had some raised bumps and redness briefly after her treatments, but there were no other side effects. Could be because nothing was happening…

First off, can you have minimal side effects on chin, and have horrible effects on lip? And also, is it likely to scar or last a long time? (I tried doing a photo, but for some reason it doesn’t show clearly.)

More than likely you will not have lasting effects from the treatment. Unless you experienced severe overtreatment the skin should heal up just fine, but it might look a bit beat up for a few weeks. The treatment does however sound a bit too aggressive.

Thank you for the reassurance! Is there anything I should use on it at any point? Like salycilic acid or something? (A low 2% or something?)

Keep the area clean and do not irritate it with exfoliants. No salicylic acid … your skin is still healing and you might make matters worse. Aloe (from the plant is best if you can find it) will be soothing and moisturizing and it leaves no residue. I would advise no electrolysis until your skin heals and calms down. When you restart electrolysis, I recommend you find a new electrologist. Good luck!

Thank you! And yes, already have a new one and will be waiting at least a month!
