will i lose what i gain if i wax and wait to fall?

My laser place wants to wait at least 3 months between sessions even though my hair is coming in as heavy as usual. 3months would be beggining of August but In fact she just advises to take the summer off, and return in fall. So that leaves me the summer without treatment and hairy legs as usual. . If i wax my legs and wait till it is all completely in again and no sign of tan , say in september will i lose any advancements Ive made ?

How long ago were you zapped? ACtually, 3 months is about how long you should wait after being zapped and it’s rare that a place suggests waiting that long. Waxing is going to make you require extra laser treatments so you’re running that risk if you decide to wax.

zapped in june…august would be three months. the place is the only place in town! I think there settings are low as there is no pain and no reaction at all and they would rather use ipl than laser! How would waxing once make you require more treatments?

I think she was also suggesting that it is good to take a break with summer, enjoy the sun and not risk contraindications with laser and sun and resume treatment in the fall when the warm weather is done.

opps ! My last zap was actually late april…very little shedding on the legs and its all growing in. I am considering having a treatment while out of town as I can access a better laser and hopefully stronger settings…or wax …or wait…

Last time i came in for my second appointment at 9 weeks and she cancelled me though all my hair was grown in thick . She explained that they believe now that it must be 3 months! I asked her to do it at my own risk anyways as I had come back from out of town just to make that appointment.
So it has now been almost 9 weeks now and hair is fully in again but i know she doesn’t want to treat it before 3 months so Im not going to push it. However i don’t want to miss a cycle and thought it was best to treat while in the growing stage as a pro on this board had suggested at approx. 8- 10 weeks. Feel confused. It will be into 11 weeks if i try to find somewhere to do it while out of town in July. Perhaps it is worth trying for hopefully a stronger session and better machine??

I think the idea with not waxing between treatments is because if you pull out the root, and you go in when recommended to, you’re being treated with a laser but there’s no hair there, so it will take another treatment to kill this hair, so instead of 1 treatment, you just did 2.

If it’s not even shedding, then the settings are way too weak. Perhaps you are willing to share your location so someone might have a suggestion about where to go? I personally drive about 1 hour, 15 minutes to get treated with a laser (it sounds far, but when I’m doing it only once every 2-3 months, it’s not bad.) Honestly, I think you are wasting your time with weak laser treatments. Since you’re travelling out of town, you might be able to find a better place there. I would suggest finding someone with a strong laser out of time… at least some of the hair that grew back will be permanently killed.

As for the time between treatments, even the gentlelase recommended guidelines say 10-12 weeks, and some here even suggest 12-16 weeks. I think you’re fine. Frankly, even if you’re late (I was a couple months late one time), I still had a great reduction.

thanks Brenton, Believe me i have that subject covered!

just not sure if it may be a good time to take a break from laser as I am really unsure of how a treatment now while its summer n shorts weather , could perhaps be a problem or greater risk with hyper pigmentation. I can always shave and skip the next session and do the next in fall though I dont want to do that if it is detrimental to final effect…though at the current place i dont hold much hope ;(
if summer does not pose a risk though then i would get my next legs treatment out of town as i will be going to a bigger centre in july and could find a better machine etc…
I WOULD LOVE ADvice from Romeo!!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone getting bad results because they missed a cycle. All you’ll be doing is permanently (well, maybe not in your case with weak settings) killing a different set of hairs. I was about 2-3 months late after my second sessions, and then I went for my third session, and I saw a tremendous decrease in hair on my legs. For the record, I’m about a skin type II-III as well. I’m not particularly prone to hyperpigmentation, so I don’t want to give you advice and then bad things happen for that. Romeo would be better to answer that (I wish he would come back cause I have question for him too lol)

Only time waxing should be done(if at all) is before the very first treatment although I would still not recommend it. It’s hard to say wether you will see regrowth in that time of the year though. From what James told me in the past, it will probably happen.

Ok i wont wax! I already have regrowth. Ive had 3 treatements on lower leg and so far still getting regrowth. Doesnt seem a big reduction yet…

Have you experienced your skin reacting normally to sun after
Lhr? Same melanin production? Any changes or same as before? I am very curious about this topic!
