Why would a clinic charge more for Lightsheer than

Coolglide?

I am Irish - type II so I’d go for Lightsheer but I find it odd to charge like this…

It’s hard to tell, it all depends on the market in the area. In some places paying retail for machine X might be more than machine Y.
There is also the age factor, some machines are so old, you can find used ones for very cheap while others it’s harder to find used.

I just found another
Lightsheer is £40 underarms in one place
Candela Gentlelase is £79 in another

A huge difference

Generally, prices don’t depend on the laser type. They depend on what the clinic wants to charge or think they can get away with

Some questions regarding the type of laser (yagg, erbium, ruby, etc.) by untrained people are ridiculous because they have little or no training. This means they do not know what they are looking for and have accepted info on this site from so many different “experts” that they are thoroughly confused.
Each “laserist” bought the laser that was sold by the “BEST SALESPERSON”. They purchaser wanted the best machine but did not really know enough about them. They have to know how to use the device before they buy one. If they tried a few (like road testing a car that costs a lot less) perhaps they would have a better idea of what they wanted.

There is a new laser head under research that can be used on almost all older machines. No more stripes, no more missed areas, faster to use and all LED. There are more features but the patent application has to be written so testing of all features can be included in the patent. If it works that well they’l be able to charge as much as a new machine.

What is an erbium?

Erbium is an element and type of Laser material. You can also get Er:YAG lasers which are erbium doped YAG, which are for laser resurfacing.

I guess my question is what does it have to do with laser hair removal? This is what this forum is about, right?

Well I agree with the sentiment of the post that people are thoroughly confused, although NOT by this forum which is doing an amazing job of informing people about the reality of LHR.

I have heard from people who have been treated with dermatology Lasers for hair removal though

Exactly. People who come to this forum become informed because the “experts” help them navigate all the marketing hype out there. The uninformed ones usually come to complain after they’ve had unsuccessful treatments somewhere without doing their research (including on this forum), which could have avoided the issues.
