if laser hair removal is more effective with darker hair why don’t people dye hair to increase effectiveness? Does the effectiveness only depend on the color of the root of the hair?
To my understanding, yes the laser only targets the dark pigmented hairs. That is why it is important to shave right before the treatment so that the hair on the skin’s surface doesn’t “burn” and fuse to the skin, which would be painful. I was told I could bleach the hair if I wanted because you cannot bleach the root and that is what the laser seeks out.
