white hair regrowth after YAG treatment?

3 weeks ago i had my 5th laser session on my face done. the first 4 times were all with a candela gentlelase and i’ve never had this problem.

i am getting a lot of stubble regrowth and it’s all white hair. it’s not blond, it’s just colorless like the YAG laser destroyed the pigment but not the actual follicle.

has anyone else encountered this? can i hope the hair will eventually regrow dark brown again so that laser will continue to be effective or do i need to throw in the towel?

i posted some pics on my lhr journal (in my sig) would love someone to share their experiences on this matter

This is rare and is usually only temporary. It’ll cycle and the next cycle will grow in dark as usual.

It is difficult to understand how the process of laser hair removal would preferentially destroy the melanocytes (cells that make pigment) but not the follicular cells.

We have seen people with this complaint, but generally it is because they didn’t remember having white hair inbetween the black hair. It would be helpful to see some real closeups of your facial hair from before you started. Looking at the photos on your website and downloading and then zooming in, it appears that you had white hair when you started. But the photos are not clearcut. It is difficult to tell from those. If you had others, it may be more apparent. But white hair can be diffficult to photograph.

My first, second, and third guess is that they were there all along. My fourth guess would be what Blink suggested.

Finally, you shouldn’t be on the YAG.

I can remember corresponding with one member from England here who’s entire chest hair turned white as a results of being treated on 12 joules/18mm after 2 treatments. Funnily enough the chain refunded the entire package of 6 treatments as soon as they realised this. However, this is rare as the others have said, especially to this extent.

Anyways, just my thoughts.

i wax my legs and once i found the hairs in certain areas came back white few times

now they never grow- its like they died after- wih tht would happen everywhere

Most likely the white hairs were always there mixed in with the dark ones. They just weren’t as noticeable among all the dark hairs and you probably weren’t paying as much attention until the hairs started coming back in slowly after waxing.

Hi Lani:

I also started out with laser, and was left with some
white hairs, but they were probably always there.
I think its called getting older, yipes!

I had to switch to electrolysis which killed both the darks and whites I had left.
