Which lasers have worked best for you

I was just curious to see which lasers have worked best for everyone. For me it would be

IPL-best
Gentlelase-second best
Yag-ok
Lightsheer duet-undetermined/just started treatment

I stopped IPL cause the company went out of business. Gentlelase I’ve only used on my upper lip which has really fine hair and it zaps it all. Only reason I didn’t do my body with it is because it was too expensive. Yag I did on my body and had ok results. I think that was the technicians fault cause I had her bump up the settings and got way better results which to me means obviously its capable of working in the right settings. I don’t think she bumped it up enough though. Now they switched lasers at my clinic and I’ve had my first treatment with the Lightsheer duet. In 2 weeks I should be able to see if it works or not.

A Candela GentleLase alexandrite laser did wonders for all of my body hair almost ten years ago. I was fortunate to have very pale skin with very black hair, so the alex laser worked perfectly for me.

How are you judging this? You can’t compare things apples to apples unless you’re treating the exact same type of hair at the same settings for the full coarse of treatments.

No machine works on fine hair. Your experience with that hair with GentleLASE says nothing about efficacy of that machine.

It’s impossible to judge your other experiences without knowing settings and type of hair. For example, if you compare GentleLASE at low ineffective settings to ND:Yag on coarse hair on very high settings, it may seem that Yag is better. But it’s not. You need to compare apples to apples.

Second everything LA girl has said.

What skin type are you? I’m guessing around type III otherwise I’m confused why there’s been treatment with both a YAG and Alex.

I just wanted to see what experience people had with different machines.

I have really fine hair on my upper lip and gentle lase blasts that away. I had my hands done with IPL as well and the hair got really fine after a few treatments. Still blasted the hair away.

A machine can burn the hair that’s currently there, but it doesn’t necessarily destroy the follicle and prevent it from producing hair. Everything burns hair. Not every “blast” makes the reduction permanent.

You should understand the main principle here. The hair needs to be coarse enough to attract enough heat to be destroyed. The machines are attracted to pigment. Settings need to be high enough to heat up the follicle enough to be disabled. And for that, hair needs to be coarse enough because coarse hair has the most pigment.

Alex lasers target pigment best. Yag lasers don’t target it as well, so they work best only on very coarse hair. IPLs don’t target pigment very well because they waste energy on heating up the skin too. So they’re not as good as Alex lasers.

There are dozens of different IPL machines. Unless you’re comparing specific machines with specific settings, it’s impossible to tell which is better.

Once again, experiences that others had are irrelavent unless you’re comparing apples to apples. Results are mostly dependent on whether the right hair is being treated with the right machine at the right settings. One person can have great results with an Alex because the right type of hair was treated at good settings, and another person can have no results with an Alex because they were treated with low settings on the wrong type of hair. The latter scenario doesn’t make Alex a bad machine.

I don’t know what you mean by ‘blasts the hair away’?

Have you achieved permanent reduction on either of these areas?

By blast away I meant it zaps it like its supposed to. I get full shedding with IPL and the gentle lase. I got about a 80% permanent reduction in my hands. What’s left is really thin and I don’t have to do anything to it for a month or 2. What’s left isn’t bad but I still like to shave it off.

Have you given it 12 months since the last treatment? Impossible to tell what’s truly gone for good after a month or two.

I need to get that IPL then cause I want to get rid of my hand hairs ha. Do you remember which machine it was?

Yeah its been over a year. About a year and a half to 2 years. I can’t quite remember. I just remember its been 16 months since I’ve started the gentle lase and almost a year since the yag.

I’m not sure what machine was used. I got treatments done by hair today gone tomorrow which is no longer around. I’m not sure what they used.
