Which is better, 15mm or 18mm spot size?

Hello everyone,
This is my first post. I have recently gotten into the business and had a question about spot size.I know a larger spot size penetrates deeper and is great for coarse hair, but Fluence settings go higher with a smaller spot size.

My question is, when treating a chin/face with a Candela Yag for instance who has some thick hair and some fine hair, what is better? 18mm or 15mm (keep in mind clientele is skin type IV-V, woman)
Would 15mm be better because you can crank up the heat and be more aggressive with finer hair or is 18mm better because it penetrates deeper?

my clients are mainly hispanic, indian, and some blacks.

For those that have used this machine, how true do you stick to the manufacturers guidelines? I really want my clients to have an effective treatment that is worth their time.

Thanks for your response. I really value what you have to say.

I would strongly encourage you not to treat women’s faces with a laser at all. The reason for that is that there are numerous reports on here of women who had their faces treated by laser and had it stimulate more growth than what they had before. Your clients will thank you immensely if you warn them about this.

All the more, paradoxical hypertrichosis is more common in Indian women. (Skin type IV-V)

Nevertheless, I think 15mm should suffice.

May I know what your credentials are?

Thanks for the response. I will read up more on this issue.
I have heard about more hair coming, but I have clients that are women who have thick coarse hair on their face. Are you saying that if I treat them, they will get more new hair growth? Or do you mean the vellous hair will become thick. What are the alternatives? or What have you all done?

Mumbaigirl: I am a Certified Laser Hair Removal Professional. Took the state board exam some time ago. How about you?

Has anyone had any success with hair removal on the face?

I am skin type 4. I had laser hair treatment on my face in 2005. My thick hair became thin but my peach fuzz started growing in to long hair all over my face and neck area. It took me 3 years of regular electrolysis from a very expert practitioner to get hair free on my face. So yeah, please NEVER treat a woman’s face with Laser. It can make someone’s life hell.
