When to go for next appointment?

I’ve never been able to find this online, but when do you know if you’re ready for your next appointment? I’ve had two sessions on my lower so far. It’s been six weeks since my last one at as of today the hair is regrowing to the point that I’m shaving daily again (there’s a lot less of it, of course). My next appointment is two weeks from now. Should I be going sooner than that?

Thanks!

Zoe

We have this in our FAQs. Please read them at the link below.

Generally, it’s every 8-12 weeks for this area, but you should go in when there is enough hair back after shedding completes and new hair grows in.

What area is it?

Lower legs should be 12-16 weeks. Yes, there will be a lot of hair by the time of the appointment if it’s appropriately spaced!

Clinics have you come back before most of the hair has come through so they can do less effective treatments and give the client the illusion that the treatment is working, because the client never sees much hair.

It is indeed for lower legs.

I read the FAQ but it still wasn’t clear to me in part because I’m not sure when it’s grown back enough. It looks pretty well grown back right now but for all I know it might be only 2/3 or what I should expect to grow back before I need another session.

Do you lose ground if you wait an extra couple weeks? Is it less effective if you go too early because it’s not treating hair that hasn’t grown back in yet?

I’ve seen estimates from 8-16 weeks for lower legs so it’s a bit hard to tell.

You don’t lose ground if you wait. In fact it’s better to treat more established anagen hairs than early anagen.

To be honest, I find it strange that hair is already coming through by week 6 to that extent. Usually people are still hair free at this point if the treatments are effective.

Continue to wait, you will know when it’s done because over a period of a week, you will see no change in the hair in terms of increase.

All my leg treatments were 12-16 weeks. I was done with my lower legs in 3 treatments, except for a few patches which I had treated for a 4th time (but only those).

From week 3 (after shedding completed) until about week 8, I was more or less hair free. Then the hair started coming first slowly, then rapidly, then tapered off.

Hmm, I did the math and it’s a bit over 7.5 weeks. Sorry about that!

I’ve had what I’d call “shave-worthy” growth for about 3-4 days now so I was pretty clear for about 7 weeks.

I’ll give it another two weeks, then. I have a year of free laser from this clinic but I always worry about the laser being less effective if it’s not wielded properly and ending up with a bunch of fine dark hairs instead of no hair.

Hair will respond better when it’s more coarse, so you might as well wait for later anagen phase. For lower legs, I’d do it at 12 weeks or so for now.

Great, thanks for the advice everyone!
