What to do with fine hair on large surface areas?

Hello all, this is my first post. I’m SO thankful to have found this community! I’m trying to familiarize myself with the forum and navigate it more easily so apologies if my question has already been answered somewhere.

I have done laser hair removal treatments for years and now certain areas such as my back and buttocks are left with fine hair. Since I’ve been unfortunate with some areas because of induced hair growth, I don’t want to treat my back and buttocks with laser but I DO want to get rid of the fine hair. So my question is, is electrolysis performed on large surface areas? or is it restricted to small areas?

Thanks so much

PS. Is there a beginners guide to electrolysis or FAQ? I dunno where to start.

If you update your profile with your location information, it will help others in assisting you with practitioners in your area.

Electrolysis is done for full body if the person can find a practitioner who is willing and able to do it.

That is true. I really am confused by electrologist’s that offer only 15 and 30 minute appointments. I think I know the reasons why they don’t offer larger time blocks, but will spare the regular readers here a yawning fest.

I routinely offer large blocks of time, 5 hour or more, for large areas or several areas at a time. For these areas, I do microflash thermolysis quite successfully. That’s what you should look for in the very least. Rumor is, electrolysis is for small areas only. That is a fallacious rumor. Electrolysis is for large areas as well if you can locate a practitioner who uses microflash/picoflash thermolysis, in autosensor mode, with good magnification, with quality lighting.

All these things contribute to being able to do longer appointments and one actually get’s somewhere with hair removal. A comfortable electrologist is a happy electrologist and quality equipment and know-how is what you want to look for for large areas especially. I say this as an electrologist that actually has treated many men’s backs. These are challenging areas, but as long as you know what the time committment is and stick to properly scheduled appointments, you will be looking great in 14-18 months at the most. You will need occassional touch-up treatments for any new hairs that nature decides to stimulate later on in your life.

There is no electrolysis FAQ’s here on hairtell unfortunatley, but you can go to www.electrology.com and view their FAQ’s. After you read the FAQ’s, then we can get more detailed here if need be.

One other thing - I am a supporter of combination hair removal, meaning, if you are a good candidate for laser hair reduction, it is helpful to get that first IIIIFFFF the area is a highly responsive one. Then, you can switch over to electrolysis for the final solution. Now, you have already done the laser thing, so, yes, electrolysis is now for you.

Like James said, it may be hard to find someone that has these qualities. The name of the game for you is to find an electrologist that has updated and continued her/his education in regard to the newer approaches, you will be a happy little sunny, bunny. Happy Easter or Happy Spring.

Thank you soooo much for your extremely informative response!

I wish I discovered this forum before I ventured into the world of laser hair removal many years back. I’ve had induced hair growth on certain areas such as my face and shoulders. I get really dark coarse hairs in the weirdest places such as my forehead and the apples of my cheeks rather than my side burns (dark long hairs that didn’t exist before my laser treatments).

Unfortunately I don’t live in the U.S and thus cannot benefit from the great referrals on this forum. Laser hair removal is quite common here though not electrolysis. Finding a good, well-informed and experienced electrologist is going to be very difficult, let alone one who will be willing to work on large areas. I suppose I can do my back for instance over the span of several sessions?

Thanks to your response now I know what to look for (microflash thermolysis), I only hope I’ll be able to find it over here (I live in the Middle East).

Thank you and Happy Easter!

Thank you. I will update it.

Oh, and what does it mean to reach ‘clearance’ with electrolysis?

A First Clearance is the first time you have all hairs in the area removed so that the area is totally clear of all unwanted hair. Obiously, this can happen the first time you go, or it may take many treatments to reach this point.

A Final Clearance is when one removes the last of the unwanted hairs, and no longer needs ongowing treatment in that area.

Dee, it is funny that you mention the missing FAQ. I have been thinking about collecting some posts that cover the common questions (expectations, how to choose a practitioner, pre/post care advise, etc.)

I was thinking, there are already these “fixed” posts on the first page, so if you can add one more up front with FAQs - I know it would have helped me when I first started looking for information.

Maybe this could be a post with the top 10 questions/topics with short answers and links to past posts that handle the topic. What do you think?

Well, I have always felt that hairtell needs a FAQ’s on the electrolysis forum and have had some discussions with a few electrologists posting here concerning this issue. I would like to see more detail than what is provided by most websites or associations. It’s a matter of taking the time to do this, in the hope that disagreements do not arise from other electrologists whomay object to the written information. Remember, electrolysis is described more as an art than a skill by some and as you may know, we don’t always agree on some things.

I always think that in my spare time, I could compose a first draft FAQ’s and then get some input from other electrologists to refine it a bit.

Besides the cost, sensation, healing and time to completion questions, what else would you as a consumer want included? Anyone is free to give their input. I guess I could peruse the topics on the electrolysis forum for help, but would still be curious to hear thoughts from the other side (consumers). I do like your suggestion of posting links related to specific questions as there is a lot of good information from the past that took time to write.

I can forsee a FAQ’s for electrolysis here. It know it is needed.

Thanks hgO for your input. Great comments.
