So, I found three different places to get my electrolysis done. I’m planning on having a first meeting with all of them to see which one is best, but I don’t know what questions to ask them.
I want to make sure my electrologist is very competent. Is there a link to some important questions that I should ask to narrow down the choices?
Although we have lots of stuff like that (check out our sister site www.HairFacts.com for a full list) the truth is that what one should base one’s choice on is the actual sample treatments that you get from all of them.
The person who does the best work, leaving your skin in the best condition, having the most comfortable treatment, and doing all this with a modicum of speed, is the person you go with.
I myself found it helpful to actually let the electrologist talk first and ask specific questions towards the end - if there were any left. Letting someone talk sometimes tells you more than you can get from asking questions.
I did a bit of reading before I went on my way. (And this site is the best place I found to get information). I think it is very valuable to know some of the terms and some of the basics before you go for the first meeting.
Some things I looked for included:
First Hygiene - such as disposable probes and sterilized tweezers.
(should be an obvious, but then again some years ago I walked into a doctors office with used syringes lying on the desk - I ran as fast as I could, literally.)
Do they Consult - I prefer someone who gives me relevant information and recommendation so that I can make an informed choice. Plus someone who is comfortable explaining things is probably more likely competent. I think it is also a good sign if they show that they want to work with you to find the treatment that fits your needs (vs. someone how tries to make you fit their treatment style).
Impression of their office - I guess this is somewhat subjective. If someone imported a designed from Italy for the office decor it probably will effect the price but not quality of service But if things are disorganized that tell a bit too.
I viewed this kinda as the “interview” and you never know how the candidate is until you see their work.
Well, as James already pointed out, the real test is how the first sample treatment goes. And I found that much trickier: “How are you going to know if the treatment was good or bad if you never had any treatment?!”
That is where your digital camera will come in handy. Everyone should take a BEFORE picture and then take pictures of the treatment areas. When you compare the afters from several electrologists, you will see a difference. I promise you.
In the best case situation, the skin looks like nothing every happened within a few hours to a few days later. A little redness and swelling is a fine result as well.
If you look like this person below, don’t ever go back to that practitioner!
