What Options Are Left?

Long story short, I’ve spent somewhere around possibly $20k on hair removal (mostly laser treatments)and it just doesn’t seem to work on me. The hair stays away for a few months, but always come back just as strong. Also, I’ve suffered from induced growth on most of my upper torso. For example, I had treatment on the back of my neck done once and the hair exploded in growth. I ended up paying about $3k over many treatments to see an electrolysis technician to have the new hair on my neck removed. I still have bad growth on my back, shoulders, and upper arms (which are the areas I’m most embarrassed about).

I currently get laser done from a Gentlelase at 18J. I would consider my skin type somewhere between a II and III.

My question is, where do you guys recommend I proceed from here? I feel down when I think of having to do this the rest of my life. Are there different lasers I should try or maybe stronger settings? I’ve ever heard of clinics that will do large area electrolysis for a substantial fee. Any hope for experimental treatments such as photodynamic therapy?

Thanks for any advice

My advice would be to stop the insanity. Laser reduction is not working for you - you are spending money and receiving nothing that you want in return. You are stimulating more hair growth in this area. We have seen many complaints registered on this website about the frustration and lack of results concerning the outcome for hair reduction on men’s backs, shoulders and upper arms, via laser hair reduction.

The best thing for you to do, actually, the ONLY choice you have, is electrolysis. The problem is there are not enough electrologists that will work on large areas like this. I will post some pictures and statistics later tonight or tomorrow morning to help you understand what is possible and what brings results, but at the same time it is an undaunting undertaking.

In my “English Patient” post, I think Dee Dee asked if the patient had had laser. Actually, this guy (VERY savvy) had 6 treatments only on one shoulder (to test the thing). I don’t know if it was the “right laser” … (it was an “Alexandrite crystal.”) Even though I would have assumed he was a perfect candidate for laser, he said it did nothing for him at all. (Sometimes it works and other times not.) I do not know why he had no results. Indeed, I HAVE seen good results from laser.

The only good part is that this boy spent NO wasted money on any non-productive treatments, and he came to me “virgin” (no surprises from long-term dormant hairs caused by laser treatments!). Also, his lower back had small/fine black hairs that probably would have gotten worse with laser?

This guy did his homework before he spent his money, and it was a win-win for both of us (I try to avoid guys that had a lot of laser work). The total cost for him … you can see his photos in another post … will be about $6,500 (yes, costly, but guaranteed to work/ I mean “money back” if not 100% satisfied). This is not an unusual amount for those of us, e.g., Jossie, that specialize in “big area” body jobs.)

Also, the kid I finished from the East coast will be here for a vacation in March (before he goes into the Marines) … I will photograph the “heck” out of him to show you some very interesting things I’ve learned. (He spent about $9,000 on ineffective treatments that resulted in “pebbling.”)

We have a new doctor at the clinic (Skin Essentials) that will be doing the local anesthetic for me … at the moment I’m actually “training” the doctor. She was/is a “neo-natal” specialist, but now wants to get involved in beauty/medical procedures: botox, fillers, etc. For my colleagues that might want this association, remember, doctors are getting “hammered” in their diminishing income (Obamacare?), and ARE looking for other (patient pay) options. Indeed, partnering with an electrologist and supervising a medical spa is becoming very attractive. We had three physicians that wanted to partner with us! (One was a psychiatrist MD! Now, THAT could be helpful! He he he … especially for ME!)

Additional, to the guy that spent $20,000. You need to get all or part of your money back. Guess what? Even though you signed an agreement that said “whatever” to get these folks “off the hook,” it will NOT hold up in court. These “release statements” are only designed to dissuade clients from suing … they aren’t legally valid when you get to court!

Standard legal opinion: When a person spends money for something, the expectation is that he will actually GET what he paid for. If you did not, you have a case and you will win. (The clinics know this and always settle out of court!)

My lawyer here in SB has a 100% success record in getting $$$ back from real failed procedures. For the laser clinics (and electrolysis too) returning money is “just part of the business.” I would start there … talk to a local attorney, or you can contact me.

Can you please post photos of the current growth? We need to see if whatever remains is even coarse enough for laser.

18J on GentleLASE on what spot size? That’s key.

dang Michael Bono you got me wanting to sue a med spa
