What kind of laser should I be looking for?

Hello!

I have decided to go in for another shot of having a successful brazilian hair removal. First time ( 5 sessions ) grew back within 5 months. I am light skinned and have pretty average dark brown pubic hair.

When I call around to decide where to go, what kind of laser should I look for?
Is there a brand that works better than others?

Ideas?

What type of laser did you use the first five times?

Did all the hair grow back from your bikini area, and did it all grow back coarse again or finer?

Exactly how light is your skin? Are you a type 1, 2, 3, or 4? The FAQs posted on this forum should help you out by determining exactly what skin type you are. The best lasers for light skin are a diode (such as LightSheer) and an alexandrite (such as GentleLase).

BTW, what city, state/country do you live in? If you live in Los Angeles I can recommend you some places that use GentleLASE lasers.

Hello!

Not sure what kind of laser they used the first time. I know that once I said it was growing back, session 4 and 5 were more painful.

Yes it did. The labia grew back 100% and pubic area about 80%. The hairs does not seem to be finer.

I could not find the FAQ’s !!! Sorry!!! I am light skinned with dark brown hair.

I live in Orange County!..

Thanks for all your help!

I will take some recommendations in LA if you have some. OC would be preferable.

Thx

I am a type II, and maybe a type III. For sure a II.

With type 2 skin, GentleLASE laser would be a good laser for you, and I can recommend two places that use the GentleLASE laser.

The first place is in Beverly Hills. Here’s the website for the address and phone number: http://www.dermatologicare.com/Contact.htm Dr. Babpour actually performs the lasering. I don’t know the exact amount he charges for the full bikini area, but it must be some where between $100 to $200 each treatment. No package deals offered. He doesn’t give out any topical anesthesia, but if you really want it then he might make out a prescription for EMLA.

Another place is in Burbank. I don’t have the website for that place, but it’s called Dr. Martin Kay Asthetic Dematology and the address and phone number is:
201 S. Buena Vista #420
Burbank, CA 91505
(818) 238-2350
Dr. Kay doesn’t actually perform the lasering, but instead the laser tech, Luann, does. The place charges $250 each treatment for the full bikini area (bit pricey, I know). No package deals are offered. But they do offer in the office a topical anesthisia ($15 for half and ounce and $30 for a full ounce).

Remember to space your treatments 6 to 8 weeks apart! Good luck!

I started looking around for laser hair removal places in OC and so far have only checked out three. I just asked them to quote a full brazilian. I have dark hair, light skin-I think they said type III.

The first place, American Laser Center or ALC (Irvine near Lake Forest) quoted me a package of six treatments for $2940 or if i signed up right now, only $2370. Laser types they recommened was Aurora, Light sheer, soprano. Treatments every 12 weeks. Two year guarantee. Seemed more high pressure at this place.

Hair Free Laser Skin Clinic (Costa Mesa, near Red Hill) quoted $180 per treatment and said it would required 7-12 treatments. Or package discount of 10% for $162 per session if i bought eight. My notes said Nature Lase, 3J, 10-20 ns, 110 yag. They did a free spot test on the pubic area (on 3/7/06) and it does still seem hair free as of today (4/28).

My last consult was at Laser Touch Medical Clinic (Santa Ana on Bristol near SC plaza). I can’t find my notes on this one, but I think/recal: sheer diode laser, 30-100j and a package price of 5 treatments for $600-$700 total, which doesn’t have to be paid all at once. The doctor, Kamran Hakimian belived that five sessions would be sufficient. They also offer spot tests for $50, which can be applied toward your laser session, if you decide to go with them.

Sorry if this info is vague and i regret not rewriting my notes as soon as i got home while the info was fresh. I haven’t had time to do further research, so please let me know if you find a good clinic/office in OC or if any of these places work out for you.

Stay away from the Nature Lase. With the extremely low fluence and extremely short pulse widths, it looks like a Softlight, which is totally ineffective.

Also Lightsheer and Soprano are equivalent lasers. Either would be better than the Aurora. The price quote from ALC seems a bit steep.

Hey - Thanks for the info. I also called that ALC - I agree, I did not get a good vibe from them.

Have you heard of Sona Med Spa in Costa Mesa? I hear there ads all the time on teh radio.

I am prepared to pay $200 per session of it works.

Just want the hair gone. Forever.

Keep me posted if you find anything. I will keep calling as well.

there has been mention of Celebre in Torrance, but I’ve only seen one review and it wasn’t very good and their prices seem high. LA has a lot of options. I would drive out for this. Otherwise, keep looking and please keep us posted. It should help others trying to find reputable clinics. Btw, I found mine through the Candela provider search (GentleLASE manufacturer) and it ended up being good. So that’s an option as well as long as you feel confident you can judge their competency (after doing your research here of course <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )
