What do you do BEFORE laser hair removal??

Hello,
I have an appointment to have my upper lip and chin lasered in 2 weeks.

It’s driving me crazy that I have to have this hair on my face, and not use ANY type of hair removal (except for scissors - not an acceptable option!!).

Does anyone have any tips for me? I’m dying for another option
I’d really appreciate any help anyone can give me!!!

You could use a trimmer but probably pair of scissors is your best option.
Also, if it’s just a few hair (probably the case) doing electrolysis might be a more effective option for you.

You can shave or clip. As long as you don’t remove it with the root, you’re fine.

Is the hair coarse enough for laser? How many chin hairs? If it’s not, it can induce MORE growth.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have quite a few dark chin hairs, and some above my lip.

I’m afaid of the “inducing more hair growth” thing, but I want the hair gone for good (been putting up with it for 20 + years), but my mum gets electrolosys, and she’s been going for years. That’s not really “permanent hair removal” in my book…

Has anyone had similar experiences? I’ve already paid for the laser removal, but it it better to use electrol. along with laser?

Thanks in advance!!

Your mum’s electrologist is probably not very good. She may have also be doing things like plucking/waxing alongside treatments. As I’ve seen many people do this, partly because the electrologist never explained to them why they shouldn’t.

I’m guessing you’re in the UK (coz of the word ‘mum’). Is the electrologist registered with the BIAE?

So far, I have had my upper lip, sideburns, eyebrows, coarse chin hairs all treated with electrolysis. It has been close to year since I’ve had any ‘proper’ treatment and the areas are still clear. I’ve had my underarms finished after Laser (there were still 20% hairs remaining after 6 Laser sessions). I’ve also had around my areola’s treated so no more coarse hairs around there since ages (only treated the coarse ones). I’ve had two clearances of my feet and toes for a dramatic reduction.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that Laser is any more permanent or effective. Even the best Laser treatments cannot beat the best electrolysis because Laser can only treat dark and coarse hairs, whereas electrolysis can permanently destroy all hair follicles.

Thanks, that was very helpful. I’m actually in Canada, but my mum is English, so I call her “mum”.

How can you tell if a electrolysis technician is doing it properly? I don’t want to go for electrolysis and end up wasting time and money. Is there a website that lists reputable ones in Canada (Winnipeg, MB to be specific)?

I’ll have to do some hunting…
Thanks again!

You mom should stop going and wasting money and look for a good electrologist instead. Good electrolysis shouldn’t take more than 12-18 months to complete start to finish, with roughly monthly treatments.

How many is “quite a few”? If you don’t have beard-like male pattern growth, you likely won’t get much out of laser anyway except potentially more growth.

It’s enough hair to make me self conscious. I’ll look into getting the electrolysis after the laser is done.

Ugh, I wish I knew all of this before I paid for the laser hair removal…

Live and learn.

Thanks again!

Can you estimate the number? Like we said, it may not be worth the risk to get ANY laser done as it can leave you with MORE hair.

If you haven’t had any treatments, you shoud be able to ask for a refund.
