What are your thoughts on home electrolysis kits?

Are there any that are really effective that any of you would recommend for a person with dark skin?

They do work because it’s the same principle as a professional one. The problem is they’re hard to use and to use properly and I found the OneTouch painful as well. The problem is that it really depends on the area you’re treating because it’s really awkward when you can’t see the area being treated. Also it’s really not that great unless it’s an incredibly small area. It takes at least with OneTouch around 30 seconds in the follicle to kill the hair, that doesn’t include the time it takes to insert the probe into it and remove it to go to the next one. You’ll probably remove about 1 hair per minute or two.

This thread would be better in the DIY Electrolysis forum though as this is a laser forum.

If you can get to a salon please go - the therapist has been properly trained to do this.

I’m struggling to use a One Touch because I’m housebound, but it’s clumsy, painful & the needle is too big, it leaves holes and scabs and getting the angles of insertion right on myself is a nightmare.

The needles bend very easily and are expensive.

The most basic cheap machine that works is One Touch as mentioned above. The problem with home electrolysis is that it takes a while to learn to do insertions properly and you may scar yourself in the process. It’s really only an option for people who are really dedicated to learning it properly and have a lot of patience, especially for an area with serious growth.

I’m asking the moderators to move this to the electrolysis forum.

I’m not an expert, but won’t some areas be a little difficult? Like if you are trying to remove hair on your hand or arm. Is it possible to self electrolyze with one hand?

Oh yes, of course.

Is there a way that I can just move this post myself, without deleting it?

The post thread was moved to the DIY Electrolysis forum by the moderators already.

Technically yes one can perform electrolysis on them self with one hand; I have done it myself and cleared most of my left arm with only my right hand, and have been able to successfully do my right arm with my left hand (I am right handed and it wasn’t too hard too learn to do it with my left hand.) One can stretch the skin and insert the needle with one hand if one is really determined.

Recommended? Probably not. But possible? Yes.

Remember, I did it with a nice pro unit with pro needles. The One Touch can work, but it is more cumbersome to handle and use.

Yes it can be done but it is quite difficult…I tried it one time and was able to do it with my right hand (as im ight handed) but the left hand was a nightmare…lol

It is very frustrating and most people just give up. In my opinion, it is not safe for facial areas.

One problem with the one-touch is that the needle is spring-loaded. So it is difficult to do proper insertions. You might think the wire is going in to the follicle but its really just pushing up inside the holder. Also, the needles just come in one size and one-type. Since I also bought a Uni-probe lite, I have a proper needle holder that use real electrolysis needles. I am adapting the one-touch unit to the uni-probe cable/needle holder so i can do some galvanic as well as thermolysis.
