What about moles and cherry hemangiomas?

Hi,

I finally found someone locally who has an Alexandrite laser and reasonable prices.

I have some flat brown moles in the area to be lasered. The technician told me “no problem,” but I wanted to ask LA Girl and others here their opinion. Also I have a few cherry hemangiomas (small red spots).

Since the laser seeks out melanin, wouldn’t the moles be a problem? What about the CHs? Should I see a dermatologist and have all of these removed before undergoing laser?

Thanks!

The moles should be covered and not lasered. The cherry hemangiomas are not a problem as hair removal lasers can’t “see” red.

What do you suggest covering them with, medical tape or something?

BTW, the moles do not have hair growing from them, and the tech told me that she can “work around them.”

Thanks!

Cover with something white. It varies from practice to practice as to what they use. The laser school I attended had created a butterfly cut from white craft foam. The curves and tips of the wings were different sizes and could be used to shield anything, moles, tattoos, permanent lip liner, etc. White ink, usually in markers at craft stores, can be used to paint the mole. Medical tape would work as long as it’s opaque.

yes, most places cover it with something white. that’s what you should do.

Would that also be the case for IPL treatments?

yes

Great info. Thanks, you guys!

I’d like to compliment “CHOICE” on her/his? great information especially. Always helpful from an experts point of view. Thanks for joining in and helping out.
