I had my first consult for laser hair removal for my face today. The whole thing was a dissapointment. My appt was at 10:45. I was not seen until 11:20 even though I was the only one there! The lady barely even looked at my face. I told her the areas I wanted done and she just proceeded to try to talk me into dermaplaning. She literally just glanced at my face and went on about the dermaplaning and told me all about getting laser for underarms or bikini area. That’s all fine and well, but I’m not concerned about those areas. I don’t mind shaving those areas because everyone has hair there. I am NOT supposed to have hair on my face! Once I got to my car I burst into tears. This is not how I thought this was going to go. Now I have to try to get a consult at another place and see what they say. I guess I’ll try to get an electrolysis consult too. There’s just SO much hair, electrolysis will take hours at a time.
Electrolysis, is always at least partially successful on underarms and bikini lines. The face can often worsen, with increaed density, and can even spread to areas where no hair previously existed. I think she was trying to sell what would benefit you, without considering your needs at all. Please research laser induced facial hair thoroughly.
I just have to shake my head every time I hear about women going for laser on their faces. Clinics and experts really need to get awereness on this. Most women who go for this have light hairs on their face and laser treatments are going to make the situation worse with induced growth. It’s horrible when you think about it, the ‘technicians’ only care about the money or they’re too clueless. Like the person in your story.
Laser works best on larger areas with thick coarse hairgrowth and light skin. electrolysis can work in every way but it is more suited for smaller areas and precise hair removal. Hair type doesn’t matter.
TS imo you should go for for a skilled electrologist for your facial hair. I am assuming that the hair is not dense enough for laser so i hope you don’t make a mistake. good luck.
That is so true. I felt like my laser technician only cared about the money because it seemed like my very few light hairs I wanted to remove only became more noticeable after 4 laser treatments. Very sad. I am hoping electrolysis will fix her mistake.
C O’Connell, are you saying electrolysis is ineffective for the face and makes hairs grow thicker?
The hair on my face is not as dark or course as underarm or bikini hair, but it is dark and long. It is not light and peach fuzzy. If I let it grow without using the depilitories that I currently use every other day, I could grow a full beard. Because it’s so much, I wanted to start with laser to get a bulk of it and then use electrolysis to get the rest.
I’m positive that Christine was referring to laser - not electrolysis.
If you have that much hair, try to hook up with an electrologist that will work longer than one hour on your face, who uses a thermolysis mode like microflash or picoflash. Multiplex thermolysis would be great to use as well. Apilus products, especially, offer great thermolysis modes that will speed up the process for getting the hair off ASAP. People, like yourself, need relief.
You have got to get rid of the daily depilatory use. It is rough on the skin and can irritate the skin enough to cause the hair growth to become worse, just like tweezing and waxing can.
Widen your circle and go on the hunt. Many electrologists can clear the hair each appointment and then wave goodbye to you, with the intention of seeing you every 3-4 weeks, in the very beginning. Later, these appointments can be spaced farther apart. I have several people who see me from out of town. They drive anywhere from 2-6 hours. It is very hard for them, but they know it won’t last forever because in the end, all the effort leads to permanent hair removal. Even when they are close to the end, I will suggest that they follow up with an electrologist closer to home, to keep them cleared of straggler hairs, as the drive is not worth it for under an hours worth of work.
One more thing: laser hair reduction on a woman’s face makes me hold my breath in the hope that her hair problem is not made worse.
Thank you Dee, I just noticed my obvious error and messaged James.
I can fix it for you if you tell me what you meant to say. it would be a nice change of pace from deleting the daily spammers.
Andrea and I shared a dream; that one day, we would wake up, check Hairtell, and not only would the questions be answered, but the fixes would be done. I can die now. That dream has been realized.
