Weakening Hair Follicles

I’m wondering if it’s possible to simply damage hair follicles with electrolysis so the hair just returns finer. I like having a beard but hate the shadow when i do shave it and the thickness of it so I’m hoping that one full clearance of the beard on moderate or just below moderate settings will give me a permanently finer beard with most of the hair returning. Laser hair removal is not really an option on the face do to the risk of patchiness.

Is this an achievable goal ?

What you speak of is electrolysis incorrectly done. Electrolysis, when done properly, will kill each follicle on the first pass and it will not produce another hair…ever. Incorrectly done the results would be completely unpredictable and at best you could expect that patchiness.

Your beard can be thinned though with more predictable results by a skilled electrologist.

Usually, this shadow effect only occurs in the very densest part, like the chin. Is it possible, that you only need to thin out the chin area?

Laurier:

Yes i understand it’s not the proper way of treatment but i have been reading on here that one full clearance of the beard will give you about 20% reduction in density and the rest comes back finer. So by going at a moderate setting instead of an aggressive one i hope it gives the results I’m looking for and maintain the beard in a thinner state. The electrologist I’ve seen a few times is good at permanently eliminating hair but very bad at shaping or understanding that I still want to have a beard and not small spots of hair free skin.

C O’Connell:

The chin is the densest part but since i have very pale skin and coarse hair, the shadow is pretty heavy on the cheeks too so i generally prefer to have 3-5 day stubble at all times over a heavy shadow.

When we refer to creating a less dense area, we are referring to the number of hairs per square inch. We reduce the amount of hair but can not cause a hair to permanently grow thinner.
