Waxing Stomach

Hi,

When I was 14 I stupidly shaved the tiny amount of hair i had on my stomach…and did so another couple of times I think. Since I was about 17…I have been occasionally waxing it. (every 3-4 months at the most maybe…this is due to pure laziness on my part) But the problem is…its just getting worse and worse. The hairs are getting thicker, and darker, and spreading out from the traditional snail trail in a caudal (is that away from the midline i can never remember>) direction. I thought waxing was supposed to reduce growth or at least not INcrease it??

Any ideas?
Do you think laser therapy would be the way to go as I am quite fair skinned and the hair is very dark.

Women should not wax areas where they are not “supposed” to have hair. Never wax the face (ok, eyebrows are fine) breasts or abdomen. It is likely that the hair getting darker and thicker is a direct result of your waxing.

Not all hair in one area is actively growing at any point in time. So, when you wax it looks like it is coming in less and less. But, the reality is that if you were to let it grow for a whole growth cycle (sometimes months on the body) all the hair would come back. And in your case darker, thicker, and bringing friends.

Oh, and shaving does not affect hair growth at all. Seriously, the biggest myth in hair removal. It may look worse because you are cutting it off in the darkest, thickest point. We tend to start shaving sometime during puberty around the time that our extra hair is coming in and blame the excess hair on shaving instead of natural body processes.

yes, shaving doesn’t affect the growth. in your case though, i’m sure it’s more the hormones since you’re goign through puberty. you would have gotten this increase in hair anyway.

shaving for now is best. if the hair is coarse, then laser will work. if it’s mostly fine, electrolysis method is best for permanent removal.

also, if the hair is fine and your skin is light, bleaching does a great job of concealing it. i did this for years before i got electrolysis.

mmm…its just the idea of shaving my face kind of freaks me out. i get all these images of stubble etc
