Hi,I have been having electrolysis for 2 and a half years on my face.My electrologist has just moved and a new one I contacted said I should wax my face first before coming to her as I will waste my money if I dont because the hairs won’t be in the growth phase otherwise.I thought waxing would stimulate more growth?what should I do? I don’t want to make the problem worse, but will they be treated more effectively If I do wax first?
Well this is just my opinion. I would not be satisfied seeing an electrologist who would only effectively target anagen hairs. I think it unnecessarily prolongs the process. However, if she does kill every anagen follicle she treats first time, it’s better than undertreating all kinds of hairs. In any case, she should be able to see which hairs are growing are which are resting and target just the growing ones. Another way in which this can be made easier for her is shaving some time before treatment so by the time of the session, the growing hairs are a few mm long and can be targeted. I don’t think it has to be waxing.
If you are uncomfortable, keep searching.
Two and a half years is a long time. What total area are you treating (just one part or your whole face and neck)? What sort of hair is being treated?
Well, that’s one approach (strategy), but I would not tell any of my clients to wax their face before starting electrolysis. I would just dig in and start treatment eliminating the most noticeable hairs first and then working my way down to the accelerated, finer hairs after that. You want the most amount of hairs present when you start electrolysis and waxing violently rips away the targets that we need to see. Whether those targets are in the growing, resting or shedding phase, matters none to me, as they can still be affected.
NO waxing before electrolysis!
It will only give you skin problems and scars.
In order to maximize the results of electrolysis, you want the most amount of hairs present when you have the treatment.
Waxing is counterproductive to electrolysis because it removes the target for the treatment and can damage the skin. I would search for another practitioner.
