Waxing at Home for the 1st Time - Problems.

I usually shave, sometimes use an epilator (whose results are awesome, but which is too painful to take too much of all at once). I opted to try waxing hairs instead as the pain is less than that w/ epilator use…

I’ve tried wax strips before and found them pretty pathetic compared to traditional waxing.

I bought a Sally Hansen product - washable cold wax kit. I think it’s very good as the wax, water soluable, comes in a squeeze-tube as opposed to little plastic jar, making it a lot less messy to work w/…

FINALLY, MY QUESTION: How can I get a good wax? I’ve tried a few times w/ mixed results, from the wax working well to the wax not removing hair.

What’s the ideal length of hair and amount of wax to be used on hairs being removed?

(I showered before using it to free body of excess oil etc)

Hi, Im sure Im not posting this in the right place but all I can say is I am so glad I found your sight, I had no idea one existed and I would’ve wasted alot less money on rubbish had I known earlier…

I see everyone here is desperate to find a permanent solution to hair…but I have a couple of questions…

1)If visiting an electrolysis lady is the only option for permanently removing hair, what are those of us who wish to remove hair from more private places (e.g buttocks) supposed to do?

my other statement may seem rather obvious,
2) I am 21 and have been waxing my chest for about 2 years ( very on and off though, I would say I have done it no more then 10-15 times in my life…I would consider myself a rather hairy person but the hair on my chest is definitely not very much, What I am saying is, I had always believed that repeated waxing does eventually kill the hairs off…and It appears to be true, what are other peoples views on this?

  1. I thought it would be clever to start shaving at 13 and I have a very thick beard, I have to shave everyday if I dont want the following day too be very painful…does anyone know a sensible realistic way to soften and lessen the stubble?

Thanks very much everyone

Where exactly are you shaving/waxing/epilating?
I usually find when I wax my chest that about 4 weeks growth between each time is plenty…make sure the wax is as hot as you can handle…spread it evenly and thinly ( I really would use hot wax in a tub, wax strips just arent very good) and then smooth the wax on really firmly and then, holding the skin taught, pull the strip quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth…hope this helps…

Search the forum for those answers on waxing and also take a look at waxwaxwax.com for more advice that focuses on just this topic (mostly brazilians though). Basically, the best waxes are from the professionals, so you gotta pay to have it done right.

  1. if your hair is dark, dense and coarse, laser is a better option to kill the bulk of it first. there is nothing wrong with treating your butt. it is a very common area just like the groin and many other “private” areas for both electrolysis and laser. these people see these things on an everyday basis like doctors. they won’t even blink.

  2. waxing doesn’t make the hair weaker. you can even stimulate some follicles to become more coarse over time. it may have this appearance if you do it rather frequently (once every few months), but if you let it grow out for a while and let the hairs fall back in synch, the same amount will grow back that you started with.

  3. shaving doesn’t cause the hair to become thicker. it’s a myth. it would have gotten this way anyways. it’s a myth stimulated by the fact that you start shaving around the time when the hair first STARTS coming in (puberty).

all these topics have been discussed on the forum multiple times. you can read some more to learn more about them.

Thanx Lagirl, Much appreciated Info…xx

In my instance, I believe waxing caused more hair to grow on my arms especially.

I have read in very many websites that an increase in hair growth is expected the first times of hair removal. I just did it for my first time last week and wouldn’t be surprised to have an increase in growth. However, growth is supposed to decrease with each epilation

waxing doesn’t cause less hair to grow and most of the time it probably won’t cause more hair to grow. however, for some people on certain areas, it may makes hairs stronger/thicker due to constant increase in blood supply after waxing.

Posts for purposes of advertising are frowned upon here because we are consumer-oriented. If you want your product noticed, then you should pay Andrea for the use of her site.

Actually, the site doesn’t take paid advertisement at all. Even our “Google Ads” are subject to filtering. We don’t catch all of them to delete and ban the bad apples coming through on Google Ads, but the effort is made.

Don’t use a cold wax, they are just gooy and don’t grip the hair very well. I think sugar is better than wax because it washes off and you can reuse the strips (and the strips are not cheap). I used to use nair peach melon, but now I goo to goodmomgoods.com because it’s cheaper. Don’t get those platic strips that you warm in your hands either tthey don’t work very well.

I think I have to explain something here, as the deletion of the spammer post ruins the continuity of this string.

Someone had posted spam all over the board advertising their site with links. In this thread, that resulted in an exchange about advertising on the site, that with the spammer’s banning deleted all spammer’s posts. Now you just see out of place talk about how we don’t like advertising taken out of context.

Let’s be clear. This is a consumer’s site. You the consumer are more than welcome to say, “I have tried brand X available from GetItHereDOTcom (I hope that is not a porn site) and this is my experience with it.” We just don’t take kindly to marketors coming on here to plug their products and web sites with 20 posts all saying the same thing and in post strings not even discussing anything remotely related to their product.

Does this clear that up a bit?
