Want to open electrolysis salon - help with info..

Hi everybody.
Me and my friend want to open salon with electrolysis hair removal. This is country in Africa and we think that here is not even one salon which offers this service here. There is at least one who offers laser hair reduction.

So here is nobody to teach and we are not in budget to sent future electrologyst for training outside.

So may be forum members can help with some answers:

  1. Which electrolysis machine would be good for salon? Fast, safe…

  2. Ok, we are hiring just finished medicine university woman and… As answer for our specific situation - she can learn from videos, books and practice on her friends legs?

  3. How long last procedures with professional equipment and (later) experienced specialist?

Any advice? (Please, “problem solving” and not “problem screaming” people…)

At first we thought about laser, but as it is not permanent and here skin color is from lightly brown to completely black, then we choose permanent removal service.

Hope on help…

Congratulations on your new business venture! I hope that the responses are all positive for you.

Here are some epilators found at Prestige: http://www.prestigeelec.com/cgi-bin/local-net/shopzone30.cgi/st_main.html?p_catid=73&sid=7glBmg2iEJkjB4X-50111142637.28
I am a fan of Fischer and Apilus, and others will surely chip in on their favorites. You can find Apilus only through Dectro. Be sure to check Texas Electrolysis Supply as well.

There are legitimate online learning courses. The hands on would be the obstacle in this case, it sounds like.

Clients who complete their hair removal treatments usually start out with longer appointments which become progressively shorter over time. This could be anywhere from 6 months to several years, depending upon the work to be done.

I hope that gives you a start!

Which country do you live in? (Africa is a big place, you know!) So far, I’ve conducted seminars on all continents — except Africa and the Middle East. Maybe Africa? I work cheap!

I already have excellent contacts in S.A. and Benin. My S.A. “adventure” fell through for political reasons. (I wonder if “Roberto” is still there? Alive?)

Of course, there are several countries I wouldn’t dare go to at the moment. I did classes in Peru during the “Shining Path” revolution and it was seriously frightening. It was a war-zone, even in Lima! However, the electrolysis clinic is still in business — one doctor and 3 nurses!

Yes, we all have machine preferences. Funny that those preferences just happen to be the machine we are using! Imagine that?

Thanks for quick answer.

I mean - how long to takes to work with “quite light” ( ) haired upperlip, which I think would be standard client here.
(I just need to have some approximately how many “upperlips” could be theoretically treated per 8h.)

Also - what makes machine “professional” that it cost 2400-2800$ (or 1000-4000$), and what makes it home with 100$?

Which machine/model could be cheaper but still fully practical and functional for saloon, even if it is downgraded from unnecessary extras? We are only beginning with not so great capital, we will need to invest in worker training, and advertising, too. And our clients can not pay as America. It is still third world country…

Like - what is problem with this machine (I like price):

That machine is made/sold by Harry Carey. It is actually manufactured by one of the major US electrolysis machine producers. It is, therefore, made well and will last for years and years. It is a perfect little unit and it will work well for you. (FYI, this is not the unit I use, but I recommend it for a start-up.) Yes, this would be “the one.”

We are low on budged (till we turn this in gold mine). As we can not afford to send worker outside of our bad-famed country, we are not in position to bring teacher for one worker.
Well, maybe after year of business we would need to bring teacher, but for now we are careful and prudent starters.

So what is important minuses of it? (That we later need to change to those fisher or apilus?)
As I understand in this procedure still most important is experienced specialist. But how much machine affects speed of work?

What additionally is needed to buy for machine?
What is “must have” in saloon?
(Magnified lamp, bed, chairs, table, battery charger…)
It need some special gels? Some other running out additions?
It works on batteries or direct electricity? (Anyway, we will need to buy a generator, because of blackouts, - at least for lamps it will be needed. Africa… )

Not to be mean-spirited, but you seriously need to get a consultant. You need somebody to take you by the hand and take you through all the phases of this “electrolysis universe.” Find someone in Europe or Australia, maybe South Africa (closer to you?).

It’s like this. Suppose someone tells you they want to learn to drive and they have never done it before. They ask: “which car should I get, and why?”

I’m still curious about which country you are in? Africa too is a “universe.”

I have to assume that this is either South Africa or Morocco or Egypt. In the other places, people simply don’t have the disposable income for this. They’re mostly concerned with putting food on their table.

That is Africa in media in 1980ths.
Answer about bad-famed country is Sudan.
(Most of what You see in news about Sudan is just lies or distortions. I am not Sudani myself, so there is nationalism in my judgment. I am 2 years in this “country”, and as every country it has bad and good sides. It is surely hard country because of climate (+43+49 in april and may, other time “only” +38+43) and bureaucracy, very high importation costs, and foreign support for adventurists to rebel and destabilize country, but there is good sides. Country is safe from crime, low corruption (for Africa) and government stealing, people is easy to communicate, hospitable. But people is mostly lazy, with low work ethics, not caring about quality and not “easy-going” in work. Some are quite “wild”. Also society is mix of full, extraordinary honesty and ugly and unexpected cheating. Prices is high for most of imported products because of custom taxes, high transportation costs and low effectiveness is work and business. Rural people is quite poor, but in major cities is mix between poor, rich and reasonable middle class.)

I know that my questions are super-duper-noob, but I am just starting collecting information.
As most important imported equipment in is machine, then its price is main question of viability of this project. So I came to this forum to ask competent people, because I am amazed about amount of scam products sold in internet. So this is first important place where I started to collect information.

As Precision Uni Probe Lite Epilator is agreed as acceptable starting machine, then we have overcome biggest possible problem. So now I need try to find info:

  1. Additional things needed for procedure
  2. Advices for basic workplace equipment
  3. Online courses (I am not sure, unless here is asked certificate for license… May be enough with some videos and books and practice…)
  4. More info about procedure, like its fastness to have approximate calculations about prices.

Treatment for the upper lip can take 5 to 30 minutes. Completing the upper lip project can take several months to a year, depending upon the amount of hair and the consistency of treatments. The client might come in weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, depending on the amount (density and texture) of hair.

The upper lip requires practical expertise to treat, so make sure your new electrologist has many hours of “needle-work” before attempting the upper lip.

Due to the delicate nature of the upper lip skin, you may want to upgrade your epilator for the purpose of decreasing trauma and pain.

Getting the epilator might be the easiest thing!

When you select your new electrologist, you might look for someone who has patience to do the intricate handiwork required; someone with good eye-sight and who can sit for hours and focus.

Will you be able to keep a consistent stock of pre-sterilized disposable needles, antiseptics for skin, cotton, nitrile gloves? You will need a treatment table, fresh linens or disposable paper products, magnification and lighting, containers for dispersing antiseptics in a aseptic manner.

So you’re looking to cater to the relatively small rich population in Sudan. Are you sure you’ll have enough business? You might. I’m just curious.

I spent 3 months backpacking through a bunch of countries in Africa about a year ago. So I’m aware of the current situation, not Africa of the 1980s. And I’m not basing anything on the situation in Sudan (considering it’s one of the largest countries in the world size-wise, there are lots of different parts to it).

99% of people in the majority of countries in Arrica are still mostly concerned with putting food on their table. And there are plenty of issues besides laziness that is causing this such as lack of education and opportunities. How many people are getting their hair chemically relaxed? This is a similar type of service which is only important to those with a good amount of disposable income. Many people in the US can’t or don’t think they can afford electrolysis. And our standard of living is slightly higher.

Which countries? If thats Mali, Niger, Burkin Faso, then yes.
Sudan is litlebit different. Extra weight here is very common (for men, too).
It is because they consume much sugar, vegetable oil, meat and white bread.

Reading more about this procedure make me unsure. How can women can be convinced to come 15-30 times just for upper lip?

It could and could not be easy to convince many women to become clients.
So I can not build service only on this. I already planed to offer warts burning with liquid nitrogen.
But what could be else?

Plan is not to open beauty salon but offer some medical type services. Because in my deen (religion-lifestyle) it is not allowed for women to try to become beautiful and seducing for somebody else than her legal relationship in marriage. As majority of people in Sudan do not care seriously about “their” religion, then many women goes to beauty salons not for her husband. But such things as extra hair removal for women or warts burning is something from everybody rights and encouraged in my religion.

I read that some machines is used to treat some skin defects? Anybody has any knowledge?
Something else? (Skin bleaching is not approved in my religion, too. Hair straightening could be done, but as I explained - all this hair-cutting, manicure, pedicure etc is not for my business because many women are not doing it for their legal relationships.)

Imagine no religion…da da da da da da…

Oh, sorry, got lost in the song -

Are you allowed to do massage? Skin tag removal?

The epilator you linked us to would be okay. It is very basic and is cost efficient considering your goals and cash flow needs now.

Electrolysis on an upper lip require that clients be consistent with appointments for a year or more, depending on how well someone is trained and their setup. Very hard to do and much skill is needed.

How you will keep your clients is doing the job well enough that they are clear faced when they leave, and enjoy a period of bare lip time, and notice how it takes less and less time to clear as you go along, and less and less hair when it starts to grow out.

Wow Ayjj’s last post. I’m singing along with Dee! (And, I got your name right too.) I’m not entirely convinced this posting is not a ruse — still, if it is, it’s a good one nevertheless.

As a former Civil Rights worker (I was in SNCC while at the University, went South and had quite a time — even got assaulted), hearing that anyone is restricted by religion, by MEN, by whatever … ugh! Over the years I’ve been active in all kinds of civil right issues — I’ll bet most electrologists have the same concerns that I do, it’s why we got in this “business.” We have so far to go. Sometimes, I think we are going backwards.

Jossie said we are in an “age of technology.” But we are also in a reactionary period that is bloody frightening.

I went from Cape Town to Cairo, so I did Southern and Eastern Africa, not Western.

They won’t need to come in 30 times. They’d need to come in to clear the area at least once every 4-5 weeks to catch the hair in the right growth cycle for abotu 12-18 months. Of course, the upper lip is sensitive, so it’s hard to treat it for more than 20 minutes at a time. So if they have more hair than can be treated in that time frame, they may need to come in more frequently in the first month or two to clear the area and then come in every 4-5 weeks while clipping or shaving in between if necessary.

http://www.sd.undp.org/mdg_fact.htm (current statistics)

In 2000:

“According to the Human Development Report 2000, 26.6 percent of the population is not expected to survive to more than 40 years of age. Comparatively, in Egypt the number is only 9.9 percent and in China 7.7 percent. The early death of so many Sudanese can be traced to the violence but also the lack of basic necessities. About 27 percent of the population do not have access to safe water (in Egypt, 13 percent); 30 percent have no access to health services (in Egypt, 1 percent). For children under the age of 5, 34 percent are underweight (in Egypt, 12 percent). The World Factbook estimated that the GDP per capita at purchasing power parity in 2000 was US$1,000.”

Imagine no religion…da da da da da da…

Mr. Lenon was confused drug addict who would be nothing if not people addicted to his music.

Are you allowed to do massage?

Opposite genders - no (but good for married), - the same genders - doubtful because of being partly naked in somebody eyes without justifiable reason.

Skin tag removal?

Wife making herself beautiful for husband and husband making himself handsome for wife - it is encouraged and rewarded.

I already decided before to add this, but will it be enough because this is already offered in beauty centers…
So I am searching for something additionally.

As a former Civil Rights worker (I was in SNCC while at the University, went South and had quite a time — even got assaulted), hearing that anyone is restricted by religion, by MEN, by whatever … ugh!

Nobody is free. Everybody obeys and is slave of something. If one is not slave of his Creator and Sustainer, then he is slave of his desires. And who knows how to live for creation then One who created and sustains it?

What is good and bad in that which is not universally accepted? Who will say? Vain desires or message of clearance from Creator?

We, muslims, here all are revolutionaries. We are struggling to improve ourselves and against our vain desires and tyrants and their slaves who are degradating these societies. BTW - that is your government supported dictators.
We are inviting people to become muslims more than just by name and leave their ignorance and unislamic traditions.

Now in US media is talking non-sense that Afghan war is for protecting women. (Before it was war against terrorism, drugs and for democracy, now when everything failed, there is new rabbit out of hat for dummies…) But these are not our who treat their women bad. These are part of “not-us”. If some of them treat their women bad, then why does it is attributed to Islam, if it is against Islam? It should be attributed to non-muslims, if this is way how Islam do not allow to treat women.
And majority of that FOXnews propaganda is just lies. And since when bombing and raping muslim women is liberating them? Or caring about them?
Some questions to ponder:
If Islam is bad against women, then how could it be that 60-90% of new converts in west are women?
Is ideology-system-wayoflife of West good to women?
Why those who are talking about opression of muslim women are encouraging to bomb them?
Why they are calling them in disrespectful words like “baby factories”, “post-boxes”?
Is being mother (without giving your children to rise to baby-sitters) something bad? Being housewife means to be looser?
Being naked is liberation? Men do not taking responsibilities is liberation for whom?
Is family something relict?
Is free sex a liberation?
Is desires better object of obedience then your Creator?
Is there liberation from your Creator or from your vain desires?

Jossie said we are in an “age of technology.” But we are also in a reactionary period that is bloody frightening.

Does a motorbike or donkey makes a man morally better or just a life easier?
Is technological progress the same as moral progress?
Is there moral progress in human history?
Is technology good or bad or depends on case?

From all animals, ants has largest “brains” proportionally to their bodies. And they are using them. But human brains are not just given to think how to build their houses, do work and nurse new generation. That is limit of ants.

Is there meaning of life? Why your shoes has meaning of life and you do not have? Your shoes are living their meaningful lives because they live their way if life as their maker intended to live. Does you live way of life as your Creator intends that you live?
Imagine…
To imagine you need some information and not putting together some cultural misunderstandings, prejudice and misinformation.

Poor Lenon and Marx was speaking of their cultural understanding of religion (that is Christianity). Some poor afghanies are speaking about their understanding (if they care about it at least superficially) of Islam. What about Islam as it is outside FoxNews and paradymuslim heads?
