I’ve had about 5 laser hair removal treatments now from the same medspa. The last two were administered by someone new to the clinic. She is said to have many years experience, but the treatments have been practically unbearable, so much so that I shake and was brought to tears during my last session. I was told it was because she upped the laser strength. I have noticed much more hair loss, but my legs look as if I have bad razor burns for several days after the treatment. Other people I talk to say it should not hurt this bad. Also, the person doing the treatment said I can use my ice pack after treatment, but not before. I am considering using the topical gel, but am concerned abt. this as well. Any suggestions or comments? p.s. not sure abt. the laser type.
Yeah, i found it be painful as hell. A guy with dark coarse hair will find it really painful on a good setting. I almost found it unbearable at some points, but just stuck it out.
Be careful! Something like this happened to me, where it hurt a lot more because “the power has been turned up.” I got badly burned. If it hurts that bad, don’t hesitate to tell them to stop.
when you say your skin looks “burned” only for 3 days, what exactly do you mean? redness around the follicles for a few days is normal. if everything went away after that, your treatments are good and effective. it does hurt. you only have a problem if you actually see pigmentation changes or peeling etc after a few days. otherwise you are fine. you can ask to ice the area before treatments as well. not everyone does that. numbing cream is also an option.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments. I appreciate it!!! How’s everyone’s long-term results been?
you can read about mine at the link below this post.
Kat, are your legs better now?
Yes, thanks for asking. I had another treatment yesterday. I used numbing cream on the shin, ankles, and knees, but was told I couldn’t use all over my legs, since it’s such a large area.
It hurt on the back legs a lot where I had no numbing cream. The machine kept overheating too. The person doing the treatments cooled it down with ice for a few minutes and then continued with the treatments. I don’t have large areas of pigment change, but I think there may be a few small spots that turned red. Besides, that I had no other negative reactions–just the pain, mainly the hot/burning sensation.
