Vellus hair removal help

I have now my stereo microscope set up and functioning wonderfully.
A new client has come with under chin hairs that can not be seen under magnifiers or loups, i can only see them under 20x magnification.
The probe i used was an F2 ballet 0.055 mm and i cleared what i could.

Now the remaining hair is grey and half the diameter of that probe thickness but the hairs are long, about an inch or so. Its hard to penetrate the follicle with a probe larger than the hair.
Its really weird growth, a left over from laser and previous electrolysis.
The skin responds great to blend , plenty of lye and it handles thermo well.

What probe should i use in such a tiny small follicle please, the F2 are a bit big even when the skin is pulled taught.

Ballet and Sterex are the most readily available probes, but their smallest size is F2. I believe that Dectro makes an F1 size for their Pro-Tec probes, but they’re quite expensive, and there is only a single distributor in Australia last time I checked.

It’s hard to know this client’s situation without seeing them, but if we reach the point where I’m being asked to remove hair that can’t even be seen without 20x magnification, then I’m starting to think the client has an unhealthy obsession.

If you continue working on the client, your only option might be with F2 probes. I would stick with thermolysis at a low energy level. The hairs shouldn’t be deeply rooted in the skin when they’re that thin. If you can get the probe just through the follicle opening, that should probably be enough to treat successfully. Can you elaborate on the issue you’re having with entering the follicle in more detail?

So F2 is the smallest common probe thanks for letting me know that :slight_smile:

She is a lovely trans woman and i have noticed that sometimes as trans women have such a long journey that they can get fixated and see what’s not really noticeable. My first recommendation to her was just wax that thing but she wants it gone for good. Its under her chin on the neck, from the chin to the addams apple area.

The problem i have is it seems the F2 is too big for the follicle entry and although i pull the skin tight the probe still has to be pushed a bit heavier than normal to get an insertion. Some i cant even get it in. Its almost like using a F4 on a F2 type hair, its just too big.

Yes the depth is minimal, about 2mm .

So , I will keep on doing what I can, I get about 80 hairs per session once a week (done 2 sessions so far) , Thermolysis low energy, about 2mm insertion.

After i run out of them I will just tell her to do a bit of monthly maintenance herself and wax , as there are no probes smaller .

You need Pro-Tec F1 probes. Extremely fine, almost like a filament - so they can sometimes bend in use but they work well. I use them on vellus hair on the cheek when required, they’re quite shallow so you can’t make deep insertions, which is perfect for those tiny vellus hairs.

Have you tried a super-fine needle, maybe a 0.030mm or even smaller? Sometimes those tiny, wiry hairs need a really delicate approach. And if the F2s are too big even with taut skin, a smaller needle is definitely the way to go.

Is it possible for you to post pictures of light and dark colored vellus hairs at different magnifications? I want to buy a microscope but don’t have any reps near me. Thank you

I will do my best, i have only learned to use the scope with eyes only, i haven’t mastered the camera or recording side yet. For the price the camera is so worth it, heaps of different set ups with lenses and accessories you can’t go wrong.
