Using laser to reduce/thin coarse hair (pubic)

Hi all,
I’m using GentleLase/Gentle YAG on my bikini line and I’ve gotten 2 treatments…pleased so far. However, I’m also curious about treating the rest of my pubic hair–however, I feel like I’m a little unusual in that I don’t want to remove it all, just reduce it/make it finer. I don’t mind having pubes but there’s more than I prefer–very dense, coarse, and long. Has anyone had experience with just thinning this hair out? How many treatments did you do?

I admit I’m a bit scared because I haven’t removed that hair–by shaving or waxing–for many years!

I’m a bit of a laser newbie myself, but I’m fairly certain that each laser treatment can destroy up to about 33% of the hair in one go - that is, it zaps it all off, and only 67% returns each time.

Bearing that in mind, you should be able to have just the one session and have sparser regrowth.

If you’re happy with your nurse’s work on you so far, you’re probably better off asking her opinion on it and she can give you the best advice, since she knows your individual circumstance.

You should judge how happy you are with a reduction after 2 treatments. If it’s not enough, go for another. You’ll probably not need more than 4. I would also suggest only using the GentleYAG since you don’t want everything removed. The Yag will mostly affect just the coarse hair.

And you need to wait at least 8-10 weeks after each treatment to judge the reduction.

Well using the Tria laser, which has a relatively low fluence, it’s so far turned the dark coarse curly hairs into finer, straight hairs. So I would say using a lower fluence on another diode laser (somewhere around 20 J/cm2) might get the results you’re looking for.

On a side note, anyone know a good site that shows the follicle biopsies from different laser results? I remember seeing some great photographs which illustrated how LHR creates follicle lesions (and compared to Electrolysis) that are responsible for the results (or lack of) that we see.
