upper legs laser hair removal

hi everyone…I am going in for my first session of laser hair removal on Monday for my upper legs. They use a Cutera Cool Glide laser, I hope I get good results!

I was just wondering how far up should I shave? I know bikini line is a separate area, but any ideas on how far up they go with the laser ? Any help is appreciated!

I can’t answer your last question, but wanted to say that laser on thighs is not especially as successful like it is on the lower legs. I hope you will have success though.

Im interested to hear your progress. I have been doing this laser …6 times already and very very spotty results. Lower leg only but zero removal on knees, tiny bits possibly gone here and there , and back of one leg which hardly had any hair now has alot more hair. Over all id give it a 2 out of 10…

I’m afraid that, unless your upper legs have a dense, black, pubic hair like growth AND the technician is incredibly well trained, you will see no long term results.

Oh wow, didn’t know upper legs had such negative results. I wish I knew that before purchasing the groupon! My hair is quite thick in the inner thigh but less on the outer. I have been doing my lower legs using Candela which has been very successful so far.

Danika do you feel disappointed with coolglide? It will be my first time using this machine, so now after reading all these reviews I am wishing I never bought that!

Do people not usually get upper legs?

Just so you understand, a laser machine has no idea what part of the body you’re treating. It works by targetting pigment in the hair. So you can only treat areas that have dark coarse dense growth with laser.

Typically most women’s upper leg hair is not dense and coarse. If yours is and settings on the laser are good, then you will get results.

Each clinic is different when defining what area ends and starts where. You have to ask the one you’re going to.

I wouldn’t start any treatments until you’ve had a chance to check out several clinics and compare settings and machines. Do you know the settings that will be used on you?

HAirlife, I didnt allow myself to get my hopes up too high so the disappointments not so bad! I had nothing else to choose from in my town and I considered it an experiment. It wasnt easy to have more than a year with no sun so it is not an experiment that I will be able to repeat. Anyways could have been worse i suppose.

Yag laser will still work well on dark coarse hair even on pale skin. You can get a good amount removed before needing an alex or electrolysis.

Had my first session with Cutera Cool Glide ND Yag today. I don’t know much about settings, but I saw on the screen

“45 - 25 - 1.2”

Any idea what that means? Since the machine is quite small, I felt it took quite long to do the upper legs compared to the Candela machine which I have been using on the lower legs. It took about 45 mins. I hardly felt any pain/zaps. Fingers crossed!!!

Please ask the clinic what spot size, joules and pulse width they’re using. You have the right to know this info. It doesn’t make sense to guess at the numbers above and they wouldn’t have the spot size listed since it’s not adjustable on this machine. It sounds like 45J and 25ms, but just a guess.

It should take 45 mins to do half legs on any machine if they’re covering the area well. But generally, Coolglides have smaller spot sizes. Candela machines have 18mm spot sizes.

If you didn’t feel much, that’s not a good sign, especially if the hair is coarse. If it’s not coarse, it’s not unusual, but also means your hair may not respond. It needs to be coarse to be affected by laser as mentioned previously.

I will ask at my next appointment. It has been 9 days and I don’t have any shedding as of yet

You can call them and ask. That’s what I would do. By the time you arrive to your second appt, you won’t be able to get our opinion on settings.
